The one song you love by a band you generally dislike

As the title suggests! Are there any bands that you really can't stand most of the time, but they have just one song that you inexplicably love?

Most of mine involve dull, landfill indie bands:

Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
El Salvador by Athlete
Golden Touch by Razorlight
Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chilli Peppers

I was going to add something by U2 but then realised that I like at least five of their songs, so evidently I don't hate them as much as I thought I did Grin

One hit wonders don't count, btw!

He ran himself over with his own car, and then blamed the fact that he'd been binging on tuna mayonnaise jacket potatoes. It was hilarious! I don't like any of their tunes, though, not even Stay Another Day.

LOL that is pretty funny. I'm getting an Alan Partridge driving barefoot and eating chocolate vibe from the story.

GrinGrin Toblerones would certainly affect your blood sugar more than potatoes, and could lead to improbable accidents.

I weirdly really like Sound of the Underground but can’t stand Girls Aloud.

PsychosonicCindy · 08/11/2019 19:10

Angel of Harlem is also my U2 song! Don't like anything else.
Also unlike loads of people I cannot abide David Bowie (especially Let's Dance grrr-and he ruins the beginning of The Snowman ) but I have always loved Modern Love and only found out it was him this year!
I have a spotify list of these one offs and also a Christmas one!

habipprtyh · 09/11/2019 13:21

Oh and I can't stand anything by UB40 except the whole album BAGGARIDDIM - it's something else Grin

RuffleCrow · 09/11/2019 18:56

You're right @Goodnightseamer that's definitely the best bit!

Good old East 17 and was that Brian '12 Es A Night' Harvey? They were our local heroes, which tells you something about Walthamstow in the 90s!

Going out to try and pull Brian or Tony was definitely A Thing amongst my female classmates when i was a teenager although thankfully not something I ever attempted Envy not envy

RuffleCrow · 09/11/2019 19:00

And Angel of Harlem is fab. Any time Harlem, or even Harlow Grin, is mentioned that song becomes my earworm.

WildRosie · 09/11/2019 19:40

Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day,

Paradise - Coldplay,

Human - The Killers,

Don't Stop Moving - S Club 7,

Pandora's Box - Procol Harum (FYI, I cannot STAND A Whiter Shade of Pale. Cliche horseshit song).

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 09/11/2019 21:21

RuffleCrow what, not John or, erm, the other one? Was there a Terry?

Where I grew up, the biggest band to have any measure of success was Shed Seven. We did not go out and try to pull any of them. In fact, our local paper used to run a picture of Rick Witter alongside a picture of a goat, and caption it "Separated at birth". East 17 would have seemed quite glamorous in comparison.

Disturbed and their cover of Sounds of Silence.

I bought their album as I liked that song so much.

Big mistake Shock

ginghambox · 09/11/2019 21:45

Disturbed and their cover of Sounds of Silence.
That version ( as is any cover of the song ) is an abomination.

toomuchtooold · 09/11/2019 22:00

I came on to say Viva la Vida by Coldplay and when I ctrl-f'd Coldplay there were like 30 posts already, but everyone had their own different song. This is how they got so popular isn't it?

Cecilandsnail · 09/11/2019 22:01

U2 'Still haven't found what I'm looking for'. I fucking loathe u2, but the harmonies in this song are divine!

Fraggling · 09/11/2019 22:01

Omg re Coldplay how funny

Mine is Trouble 😁

Also fairground by simply red

And loathe U2 but there was one I liked i I've forgotten the name it wasn't the usual bloke singing so maybe that's why!

SwedishEdith · 09/11/2019 22:11

Seven Sea of Rye by Queen. Originally added Killer Queen as well but that's just tolerable of the rest.

Dakota - Stereophonics
In the Morning - Razorlight but only because you mentioned Razorlight, OP.

I think I've got loads of these - guilty pleasures. Songs you like by truly appalling bands.

BertieBotts · 09/11/2019 22:12

Violet Hill by Coldplay. I can't stand most of their stuff.

LOL at Coldplay being the worst-best-most-popular-unpopular-hated band :o

GrouchyKiwi · 09/11/2019 22:14

Time of Your Life - Green Day (though I just remembered I also like Brainstew [because of the terrible Godzilla film it was in] so I guess that doesn't count)

Toxic - Britney Spears Grin

Objection (Tango) - Shakira

SwedishEdith · 09/11/2019 22:14

Ha ha, reminiscing about Brian Harvey being run over by his own car. I was laughing at that before scrolled down.

BertieBotts · 09/11/2019 22:25

I've just been to listen to all of these other Coldplay songs and you're all wrong. Don't Panic is okay though but mainly for the nostalgia attached to it. The weird monkey one is new to me though and might be OK. I can never decide about a song after one listen.

There is a version of Something Just Like This on Spotify by Missy & Blonde and Julia Ross, which I like better. I don't know either of those artists, though.

JustBeingJobless · 10/11/2019 01:05

Coldplay - The Scientist
Stereophonics - Handbags and Gladrags
Nickleback - Rockstar
Avril Lavigne - When you’re gone
One Direction - Night Changes

JustBeingJobless · 10/11/2019 01:09

Also:
U2 - One
Simply Red - Stars

Fraggling · 10/11/2019 12:04

Toxic - Britney Spears

Me too 😁

BellatrixLestat · 10/11/2019 12:10

Teenagers - My Chemical Romance
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Epic - Faith No More

BellatrixLestat · 10/11/2019 12:13

I also like most covers of Beatles songs when I hear them so actually like the songs but can't stand the Beatles versions.

Also forgot the list:

Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley
