What do you serve with cottage pie?

Love homemade cottage pie! Thinking I should make it this week but not sure what to serve with it. I usually do a pile of mixed veg. But just wondering what everyone else does? I know it doesn't really need anything extra.

Peas and carrots here. Sometimes sweetcorn instead of peas.

Rolypolybabies · 19/10/2019 17:31

Ketchup Blush

Trewser · 19/10/2019 17:32

Carrots are already in the pie.

Just peas.

Brown sauce, nothing else required!

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/10/2019 17:35

Carrots, with either peas or brocolli. I do put peas and carrots in it too.

cantfindname · 19/10/2019 17:35

My first pregnancy craving was cottage pie with chips and extra gravy. 40 years later I can see just how disgusting this was!

I usually have broccoli and cauli or savoy cabbage and the compulsory tomato sauce. I only eat tom sauce on two things, cottage pie and macaroni cheese but when I have those I neeeed it lol.

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/10/2019 17:36

Oh and Hendersons!

funmummy48 · 19/10/2019 17:37

We have ours with baked beans. Delicious! 😋

Dangerfloof · 19/10/2019 17:38

Oddly I'm making this tomorrow. In the slow cooker. Carrots and peppers and onions will be in mine anyway. Usually do with Yorkshire and broccoli, cabbage if I have in. But tomorrow I'm busy and I'm doing a fruit crumble too so on it's own. Am also doing sweet potato top so I think for once theres enough already.

Pumpkintopf · 19/10/2019 17:38

Cabbage and maybe green beans.

SisterSistine · 19/10/2019 17:40

Broccoli. To my mind the veg inside it doesn't really count as it's been cooked for a while so isn't as good for you as some steamed broccoli.

JessicaRarebit · 19/10/2019 17:42

How about peas, leeks and a pancetta with some mint? Decadent but so tasty!

Goawayquickly · 19/10/2019 17:44

It’s lovely with baked beans. Crusty bread and butter too. I’m starving actually after reading all this.

Rosehassometoes · 19/10/2019 17:59

Green veg
DHs family serve Yorkshire Pudding alongside.

WorraLiberty · 19/10/2019 18:05

We just normally serve it with veg on the side, or if we've got an extra person for dinner and we need to stretch it a bit further, we'll add a couple of yorkies.

I had no idea some people eat it with bread or garlic bread.

CalamityJune · 19/10/2019 18:08

Green veg and pickled beetroot!

TapDanceJazzHands · 19/10/2019 18:13

Cauliflower cheese Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/10/2019 18:15

Jacket potato or chips, veg and gravy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2019 18:17

Jacket potato or chips? With mashed potato? Confused

JudyDenchsBloomers · 19/10/2019 18:31

DGM served hers with her homemade pickled onions which were sublime. I've followed tradition but mine are nowhere near as good. My American DH can't eat cottage pie without them now Smile

ChipsAndKetchup · 19/10/2019 18:34

Shredded Brussels sprouts cooked with Worcestershire sauce and butter. And roast carrots. Yum!

sue51 · 19/10/2019 18:39

Broccoli, green beans, and broad beans.

rededucator · 19/10/2019 18:44

For shepherds pie I put leeks through the mash with a layer of shredded carrots underneath. Hairy Bikes recipe. Then pees and a slice of buttered bread on the side.

Ribenaberriesgowoo82 · 19/10/2019 18:46

@Dogsaresomucheasier, I need more details about the cheesy leaks on top. I'm pregnant, indulge me.
