What do you serve with cottage pie?

Love homemade cottage pie! Thinking I should make it this week but not sure what to serve with it. I usually do a pile of mixed veg. But just wondering what everyone else does? I know it doesn't really need anything extra.

Thanks all. I usually do peas and carrots in it. I usually do Broccoli and cauliflower.

Never thought of bread though. And Cabbage. 😄 Think I'll get both. Thanks all.

Yorkshire's 😍 perfect, any excuse for a Yorkie. 😄

I realise there are vegetables in it but why wouldn't you want more? Add some extra colour and texture.

Carrots and cabbage, with lots of gravy.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2019 16:19

Pickled beetroot.

Someonesayroadtrip · 19/10/2019 16:20

@StealthPolarBear .. no I definitely love veggies. But just not more carrot and peas as I already have it in the cottage pie.

Baked beans 😋

DeadBod · 19/10/2019 16:20

I'm glad that there's not only me who has baked beans.

loutypips · 19/10/2019 16:20

I have veg in mine already, so don't need to serve anything with it.

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 16:21

But lots of people are saying no more veg as there's veg in it. I just don't follow the logic.

lazylinguist · 19/10/2019 16:26

Ah - I don't think carrots and peas belong in cottage pie. That's why I serve them with it.

HeadBrickWall · 19/10/2019 16:27

Why would you serve anything with it? It's a self-contained meal, like spaghetti bolognese Confused

MunchMunch · 19/10/2019 16:29

Usually peas and carrots in it, maybe a side of broccoli and cauliflower but definitely definitely yorkies!

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/10/2019 16:29

Nothing else. Whatever I have in the fridge goes inside the cottage pie. I particularly like swede mashed up with the potato.

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 16:29

Why wouldn't you take the opportunity to have another couple of portions of vegetables?

Fizzypoo · 19/10/2019 16:29

Savoy cabbage is also nice!

I stick loads of veg in my pie but still like veg on the side to break it up.

Esiotrot87 · 19/10/2019 16:30

Another vote for baked beans. With cheese grated all over it too

Busytizzy · 19/10/2019 16:32

Baked beans here too!

DogAndCatPerson · 19/10/2019 16:32

Green veg

SpiderCharlotte · 19/10/2019 16:32

Roasted broccoli or butter beans. I LOVE butter beans. I like the sound of red cabbage with it though.

Zeldasmagicwand · 19/10/2019 16:33

In the summer I'll eat it on top of a green salad and in the winter, add coleslaw and baked beans.

Lessthanzero · 19/10/2019 16:34

Garden salad of course Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 19/10/2019 16:34

Shredded Savoy cabbage with lots of butter. Carrots in the cottage pie. Slurp.

pigeononthegate · 19/10/2019 16:36

CampingItUp · 19/10/2019 16:36
