House plants?

How many have you got?

I mentioned my house plants at work yesterday, as I was discussing how I was going to transport them when I move soon and my colleagues were surprised at how many I had. I thought I'd take them to work over the course of a week and then move them back when I'm in my new place.

My mum has just been round and coincidentally she said I was the only person she knows now, who has them?

Really? I didn't think house plants were that odd or out of fashion. I've got about a dozen across the house, I think.

Seven here. They're totally fashionable right now! I've always had plants though; I love them.

About 50 or so - some are cuttings that are rooting or the result of dividing larger plants. A couple of them I have had for about 30 years. Just redecorated my bathroom and stuck 5 plants in there.

greathat · 16/10/2019 16:56

Er 15ish

MaureenMLove · 16/10/2019 16:57

Ah, that's good then! Some of mine are what my colleagues like to call, 'in intensive care'. They bring them to me, to nurse back to health and then return!

I can't imagine a house without a bit of greenery in it! There's nothing like a nice Sunday morning in Spring, repotting all of them and cleaning the pots they're in!

I have 7 just now but I plan to add more.

AliceLittle · 16/10/2019 17:27

I have at least 5 or 6 in every room of the house so thats 36 ish.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2019 17:46

About 40. Some are DDs, there wasn't room in the car when she returned to uni for her larger cactus and the tray full of smallish spider plants we'd potted up for her friends. And then there's quite a lot of small citrus plants, the result of an Internet tip on how to get pips to germinate which works.

Celticdawn5 · 16/10/2019 17:52

None. I enjoy gardening and have worked as a gardener but can’t stand plants in the house.

daisychicken · 16/10/2019 18:00

37 + here, some belong to my two ds's. I grew up in a house full of plants so it really makes a house feel like home for me.

A few years ago, I was out with a friend and stopped to look at a plant. Said friend, who is a couple of years older than me (we were mid-late 30s at the time) told me only old people have house plants!

DD asked for houseplants for her 18th birthday present - a couple of lovely orchids. (They're still here too as too fragile to transport). And lots of her student friends have a plant or two.

BentNeckLady · 16/10/2019 18:46

Loads in the winter but they all get shipped outside in the summer months so it depends when you asked.

There’s probably 15 in the house at the moment with another couple due to come in soon.

WineGummyBear · 16/10/2019 18:57

9 but I plan to add more. Love the life they bring to the house!

IamaBluebird · 16/10/2019 19:20

Promised myself I wouldn't get any more plants. Today I saw a tiny little pumpkin in a pot, couldn't resist.
Promise that's the last plant for this year..

IamaBluebird · 16/10/2019 19:22

Just noticed dh has added a little lego horse and tiny little mice to the pumpkin Grin

6utter6ean · 16/10/2019 19:27

I only got into house plants this year, but I love being surrounded by green. I also enjoy having things to nurture now that my DCs are gurt lumbering teens Grin

Catsbollox · 16/10/2019 19:31

25, love them! Lots of chain of hearts, snake plant, fern, spider plants, aloe Vera, some cactus (cactae?). Definitely make our house more homely, I'm slightly obsessed Blush.

They multiply like something else though, from one chain of hearts plant I have 6 more full little beauties now and the spider plants are throwing babies out like mad. I'd like to think the air in the house is a little purer for them all!

ChrissyHynde · 16/10/2019 19:36

12 major ones and kitchen window full of succulents and cacti, love my plants

daisychicken · 16/10/2019 19:36

Errolthedragon my 2 ds's (15 and 17) and my two dn's (16 and 20) all have plants of their own. It was just such a weird statement from df! Won't stop us from having lots of plants though 😁

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/10/2019 20:36

Houseplants are very fashionable with the yoof. We have maybe a dozen but DD is living at home temporarily and has another 20 or so.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 16/10/2019 20:42

10 here but my spider plant has about 30 babies on it so soon to be a lot more. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2019 20:54

My 'mother' spider plant has a lot more babies ... and some of the ones I potted up are getting quite big. I'm afraid I've got an exponential growth situation developing, but it seems mean and wrong to bin any of them. I'm not sure why - I love pruning outdoors, a good session of 'mindful destruction' and a full brown bin is a pleasure outside.ConfusedGrin

BeBraveAndBeKind · 16/10/2019 21:15

ErrolTheDragon I've had my spider plant for years and years and it's never had babies but in the last few months they've started sprouting so I'm keeping all of them!

PaperFlowers4 · 16/10/2019 21:38

I have 12 plants in my small flat. I love them. It makes such a difference to the ambience of the space.

BarbedBloom · 16/10/2019 21:40

About 20. Currently mothering my monstera which has just come back inside after a summer in the garden. You don't want to know how many plants I have outside...
