What the hell are these red bumps on me?

Started a couple of weeks ago maybe? Mainly on my legs, I thought maybe spots or ingrown hairs but I've never had this before. Then I thought I may be allergic to the tights I've bought from m&s lately, but never had problems before.

I've checked my bed for bedbugs, no sign of them at all. Carpet fleas? But all the furniture and carpet is really new.

Washing liquid hasn't changed. Don't think it's shower gel or anything. I've attached a pic of one that has just popped up on my forearm.

Please does anyone have any ideas what it could be? It's driving me mad!

Don't kniw but the red ring around it makes it look infected. Worth a visit to gp

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:26

Thank you. It's really strange, I literally have no idea what it could be or what's causing it. I was thinking I'd be wasting their time if I went to the GP.

It looks like the beginnings of an ingrown hair to me.

Hives?

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:33

I thought that to start with as they were mainly on my legs, still are. Doesn't seem to be as much as flea bites/bed bugs from what I've googled?

I never usually get too many issues with ingrown hairs though, maybe had a couple on my legs or bikini line but never my arm..

Hi just logged in to say they could be bed bug bites as I had a similar strong reaction to bed bug bites years ago. Not sure about the ring though. Are you living in a city? Have you been on holiday recently? Stayed in a hotel?

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:40

Ah please don't be bedbugs 😩 I've checked all over the bed and can't see any sign of them at all though? No blood spots or bed bug poo! Stayed in a travel lodge about 2 weeks ago but o think it had started just before that. Live on the outskirts of a large town

TwattingDog · 15/10/2019 22:41

That looks a lot like my reaction to mosquito bites.

I'd say a bite of some sort. Do you have any antihistamines? Draw around the circle before bed, and see if it's got any bigger in the morning.

Pop to the chemist rather than the GP at this stage, unless your circle is a lot bigger in the morning b

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:43

Stupid questions but are there mosquitoes in SW England? I've only ever had mosquito bites on hols abroad! Well I thought so anyway. I will draw around it, I don't think I have any antihistamines though

I stayed in a flat in London that was infested with bed bugs and was bitten a lot from night one... Travel and hotel staying does spread them unfortunately. Also public transport in cities etc on tube seats for example. I found out so much about bed bugs when I had them.... Including that they live in hard places not soft things like beds as you may expect. So bed frames and skirting boards. Hopefully it won't be that but just fyi.

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/10/2019 22:46

It looks like a bite OP? Any pets in the house?

How many of them do you have, are they in clusters or just individual spots?

Rather than the GP I'd probably ask a pharmacist to have a look tbh, of they don't go, or take an antihistamine and see what happens. Obviously go to the GP if you feel unwell though.

Xmastreesup · 15/10/2019 22:46

BTW most people can be bitten by bed bugs and not have any kind of reaction at all but my bumps were big and itchy. Think a white spot in the middle though and it looks as though your spot in the middle is red??

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 15/10/2019 22:47

Looks like a mozzie bite, mine get like that and itch like a bugger. And yes, the fuckers are still around, got bitten last week on my leg and the bites take ages to go down.... itches

pallisers · 15/10/2019 22:49

Bedbugs generally have 2 or more bites in a row.

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:50

No pets in the house...

I have about 7 or 8 of them that look similar to the one on my arm, mainly on my legs.

I do get the bus for work... if it's bed bugs how do I find them?

OP posts:
OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:50

I have a metal bed frame, would they be obvious around that?

OP posts:
OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 22:56

That's on my thigh (7 years on and off Mumsnet and I've never had to post one of these until now 😂)

I just literally can see no evidence of bed bugs anywhere? No marks left on my sheets at all... this is so strange

I was told to put double sided sticky tape all around my bed on floor to catch them if they walked over it... But had to get pest control out in the end... It could be a mozzie bite like pp have said I'm 50/50 from your photo. Try not to worry too much whatever it is is fixable.

GreenTulips · 15/10/2019 23:00

Could be fleas brought in via shoes
They bite humans if no animals about

Try a bug spray on yourself and see if they stop

Xmastreesup · 15/10/2019 23:01

Also the other way bed bugs are spread are through secondhand books. It might be worth checking the sides of pages in books for bedbug poo.

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 23:03

I went on a couple of dates with a lad who has dogs a couple of weeks ago, could be that maybe?

I'm crawling around on the carpet trying to look for signs of fleas/bugs 😂Argh hate stuff like this

OP posts:
pallisers · 15/10/2019 23:03

ok that looks more like bedbugs to me. but could equally be a mosquito.

We have had bedbugs and I saw absolutely no evidence but we were being bitten. I would get a pest control person in to take a look (the guy we got in saw them immediately).

Do you have a proper mattress protector on your mattress?

Whatever it is you will get through it :) (although I wouldn't want to go through it again tbh)

Xmastreesup · 15/10/2019 23:05

It is horrible I remember that feeling well. Can you pop along to your local council or give them a call tomorrow and speak to pest control to see whether they can come out. Also pop to your local pharmacist that's a good idea too.

OilBurntOut · 15/10/2019 23:06

Pallisers I have a mattress protector over the top of two mattress toppers... a proper waterproof one...

Xmastreesup · 15/10/2019 23:06

Also not to freak you out but bedbugs come out to feed in the early hours apparently so you wouldn't see them now!!
