What the hell are these red bumps on me?

Started a couple of weeks ago maybe? Mainly on my legs, I thought maybe spots or ingrown hairs but I've never had this before. Then I thought I may be allergic to the tights I've bought from m&s lately, but never had problems before.

I've checked my bed for bedbugs, no sign of them at all. Carpet fleas? But all the furniture and carpet is really new.

Washing liquid hasn't changed. Don't think it's shower gel or anything. I've attached a pic of one that has just popped up on my forearm.

Please does anyone have any ideas what it could be? It's driving me mad!

Spider? There’s lots of them around at the mo. I had a small dead one in my bed the other day.

Fleetheart · 16/10/2019 09:15

I don’t think it’s bed bugs as they’re not in a line. Look like mosquitos. Or flea bites on legs. I got a lot of flea bites on legs; we had fleas at work in the carpet. So it may not be your home!

They are most likely flea bites. Even though you don't have pets you can bring flea eggs in on your clothes shoes etc. They hatch and bite you in the absence of their normal host. Indorex from the vet will sort it.

My 6 year old daughter has something similar a few weeks ago. The spots look very like yours. Some of them went on to form a small white head but not all of them. She had a couple pop up and then ended up with loads all over her body.
I've no idea what it was. I thought bed bugs too but no evidence of them anywhere. Eventually they all went away.
I tried looking up pics online for similar but couldn't find anything that matched.

OilBurntOut · 16/10/2019 12:13

Right well a pest control guy has been out and could find no evidence of bedbugs, fleas, mosquitoes or anything at all! No eggs, no bugs, nothing in any of the crevices of the bed frame.

I'm still worried they're hiding somewhere he can't find them!

Work is definitely a possibility. Although I hadn't been at work since Friday and still keep getting new ones pop up?

Maybe not bites? I may well go to pharmacist/gp. Stressing me out massively

The thing with fleas is that you don't see evidence of them in their environment unless you are overrun with the buggers and you have a microscope. The larval and pupae stage happen in your house but often the only evidence is bitten humans and flea poop in the hair of the host pet.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/10/2019 16:12

If you've had them for more than 2 weeks, it's time to go and see your GP...

OilBurntOut · 16/10/2019 17:19

I hope pest control man has some way of telling for sure.....

I know not impossible but not so likely it's fleas given no pets? A dog lived in the house til about 8 months ago but he was always without fail treated regularly.

I'm going to contact GP....

They actually look a bit like folliculitis to me?

Spam88 · 16/10/2019 18:59

I don't think they look like bites, more blistery..?

OilBurntOut · 16/10/2019 19:02

Not really like blisters... I thought spots or ingrown hairs at first....

I got bitten by a spider recently and the resulting red reaction was a bit like that. I ended up having to take anti-histamines. How was I supposed to know it had decided our sofa was its new comfy home as the weather turned?! I think the cat got it as I didn't see it again...

It could be bed bugs (you usually get those in clusters and they're crafty little beggars who know where to hide, we had them in several of our halls of residence at university. They've also got much more resilient in recent years.), mosquito bites, or something else.

If you don't want to trouble your GP, you could pop into the chemist and ask them for advice on what they think it is, and getting the redness and bump to go down, and then work out what to do about any infestation in your house. But it is likely to involve a new mattress at the very least and lots and lots of laundry if it is bed bugs.

lakequeen · 16/10/2019 19:24

I think it might Folliculitis too, are they itchy?

Frlrlrubert · 16/10/2019 19:55

I'd have said fleas.

Fleas love me, and the bites come up with that sort of redness.

If there's a single flea anywhere I'll be bitten, before anyone else, even the pets! Our dogs are treated but still bring home the odd one and it'll get me before it dies.

InTheTempest · 16/10/2019 20:04

The pest control man literally took the bed apart today- no sign of bedbugs anywhere in the frame or under the slats. So I'm hopeful it's not. He could literally find nothing and I guess he knew what to look for.

Maybe a bit itchy but I swear I'm just feeling itchy all over imagining bugs everywhere 😂

InTheTempest · 16/10/2019 20:05

NC fail 😂

AhFlip · 16/10/2019 20:09

If there's a red ring around it go to the gp ASAP as it could be Lyme disease, esp if you've been outside.

justforthisnow · 16/10/2019 20:15

Scabies? Hope you are ok OP. Maybe a GP visit to put your mind at rest?

IndieTara · 16/10/2019 20:20

Op they could be flea bites from being at your boyfriends place? Maybe you were bitten there

InTheTempest · 16/10/2019 20:23

I don't think it's Lyme disease, that looks quite different...

Oh god Scabies... I don't know, no silvery lines I don't think?

KatharinaRosalie · 16/10/2019 20:26

MrsLogan I would guess your DD had molluscum

InTheTempest · 16/10/2019 20:29

Would it not be really itchy if it were Scabies?

OddestSock · 16/10/2019 20:31

Could it be cable bugs? Not actually bugs at all.

justforthisnow · 16/10/2019 20:33

Scabies are itchy at night. 'Tunnels' may not be seen til fairly advanced stage. OTC cream treats them.
