What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Shake n vac. Our cleaner bought it but it's a life saver for a carpeted house with 2 dogs!

Love fisherman's friends

Kippers in a bag

Washing powder much better for your washing machine - also run it on a hot wash totally empty once a month to keep it clean

Bisto
Carnation milk
Vesta curry
Atora suet
Mincemeat (for mince pies at Christmas)
Broth mix
Ruskoline
Pears soap

I live outside the UK now so getting these can involve a fair bit of effort!

Dishwasher powder. None of your fancy tablets for me! Ditto for washing powder

longearedbat · 15/10/2019 14:22

I use gravy browning as well.
In the days before paper hankies everyone used cloth ones. My mum used to boil my dad's. There used to be loads of them simmering away on the stove (coal fired, naturally) when he had a cold. I think after a boil they were then put through the twin tub.
A pile of hankies was a staple christmas present from grannies and maiden aunts.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 15/10/2019 14:22

Salad cream and sandwich spread.

TroysMammy · 15/10/2019 14:22

Tinned Pek chopped meat. Although my local Home Bargains hasn't had it in for a few months Sad.

tisonlymeagain · 15/10/2019 14:23

Heinz Sandwich Spread

MsMustDoBetter · 15/10/2019 14:29

Washing powder, in a cardboard box. Smells much better than liquid, gel or pods.

4711 cologne

Milkstick · 15/10/2019 14:36

@smemorata I used to buy euthymol because my dad used to use it and I used to pinch it as a kid... But it led to the downfall of several teeth. No fluoride in it.

LittleAndOften · 15/10/2019 14:36

Shippams paste was the stuff of all lunchbox sandwiches when I was growing up. I still really like the sardine and tomato one!
Speaking of which, does anyone else still buy tinned sardines?
Also mandarin segments for an orange jelly sponge flan 😁

labazsisgoingmad · 15/10/2019 14:37

talking of soap powder wish you would still be able to get lux flakes or dreft. my gran used to use stergene for everything from laundry to washing up
last week on holiday i found a tin of cream soda drink it was lovely wish i had stocked up

smemorata · 15/10/2019 14:39

Millstick - oh dear! Perhaps it's a good job I haven't managed to get hold of it recently!

Milkstick · 15/10/2019 14:39

Lion's liquorice tabs. They last about 10 minutes, I get jaw ache but they're worth it. Home Bargains often has them. I've almost always used powder in the washer, and I've been buying soap for about 15yrs. My parents used to buy Palmers, but I prefer Pears coz it reminds me of my Nana. I also have a small collection of hankies that my dad has learned to carry spares of for me when we're at a funeral. One of them has Homer Simpson on it. Hankies are way softer than tissue when you have a cold.

smemorata · 15/10/2019 14:41

Yes! I love sardines on toast. I used to eat them every week in John Lewis' cafeteria until they went posh and took them off the menu!

SamBeckett · 15/10/2019 14:41

I love them Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/10/2019 14:52

My DS loves Wrights tar soap(?) he says it makes his skin less itchy(he gets mild eczema occasionally), I thought that was the cream he has put on every day but he says it's the soap

But I thought it didn’t contain coal tar anymore? I wish it did. It was wonderful for eczema.

MotherWol · 15/10/2019 14:54

I bought a box of Borax last week with the intention of deep-cleaning our bed linen, and felt significantly older than my years.

Abouttime · 15/10/2019 14:58

@peachgreen, pls give me your recipe for rice cremola-I used to love that stuff!

JocastaJones · 15/10/2019 15:00

Big box powder is cheaper AND it cleans better. Frankly you're an idiot if you buy anything else.

Gatekeeper · 15/10/2019 15:01

Heinz Sandwich spread
Pek tinned meat - I get it from B&M
Vim scouring powder
green household soap
eau de cologne- I get a big bottle from Boots for about four quid
'Poor Ben' sweeties...I can eat a whole pack of them in one go and end up with jaw-ache

Gatekeeper · 15/10/2019 15:02

I also like Victory V lozenges- they used to contain a small amount of ether and when you burped it smelled like gas at the dentist Grin

SamBeckett · 15/10/2019 15:11

Becheems powders - then add fresh lemon , honey and hot water to banish a cold.
I can make my mind up if I am trendy or old fashioned as I had always used bars of soap Imp leather and boxes of soap powder pref Daz.
I also used hand wash soap powder to but it's getting hard to get hold of.
Liquorice root
I still have a eletric hand mixed ( the type with the two whisk attachments)
I still have , and won't part with my free standing gas cooker with eye level grill.

Love hearts
Vimto
Hand operated coffee bean grinder ( flaming hard work so rarely used )

TheSilveryPussycat · 15/10/2019 15:12

I seem to remember cloth hankies being laundered by boiling them up in a pan of water on the hob.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2019 15:13

@privatespidey. Stock up I think I've dropped so many hints to my family I'll be eating Fry's cream from Christmas to Easter 😁
