What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Sarsons gravy browning, 1 bottle lasts me ages as I only use a drop, I'm always worried it will be discontinued at some point as I don't know anyone else who uses it apart from my elderly mum.

Juells · 15/10/2019 13:26

Loopytiles
DH uses hankies and complains they are hard to find.

Whenever I see a stately old gentleman using a hanky I think "Some poor woman is having to handle that snot-rag and wash it" ^ puke ^

I'd still be buying Burgess Mushroom Ketchup if it hadn't been discontinued :(

Cheesy Pasta Blush

amusedbush · 15/10/2019 13:27

Boil in the bag cod in butter sauce

I buy this too, it's amazing! I also love Toast Toppers, which DH had never heard of before.

My granny buys fabric hankies and gives me pack every Christmas. I used to use them as blankets for my Barbies but now I have run out of uses for them Grin

Eden perfume.

Rich Tea and Morning Coffee biscuits.

Heinz Sandwich Spread.

Slaymill · 15/10/2019 13:31

@TheFaerieQueene totally agree all fresh and lovely.

I use handkerchiefs and just pop them in the nappy bucket, ready to wash with the cloth nappies. Far more environmentally friendly (and softer too).

PrivateSpidey · 15/10/2019 13:32

MrsJayy Shock I'd better get down there sharpish before they all get snapped up!

I'd totally forgotten about nightie cases! We always had them as kids.

twoheaped · 15/10/2019 13:32

Brain's faggots 😋

AFairlyHardAvocado · 15/10/2019 13:37

Evap 😍

Carnation, obvs.

Crumble without evap is an abomination in our family.

CMOTDibbler · 15/10/2019 13:40

Frys selection boxes are £2.98 on Amazon

Hankies just go in the wash with towels. If you are funny about such things, you could use a net nappy bag so they get put in there by the user and then no one needs to touch them until they've been washed.

I always use washing powder for whites (Lidl is the best on Which tests) and it makes the machine clean too. I add Napisan to white washes.

FurForksSake · 15/10/2019 13:43

Tinned chicken in white sauce, I have it on hot buttered white toast. No one else is allowed it.

I also buy tins of heinz shapes spaghetti and the macaroni cheese for the kids on the days when time is tight.

You wash hankies to use on your face in with cloth nappies Envy

petrocellihouse · 15/10/2019 13:46

@Juells You can still buy mushroom ketchup! It's made by Geo Watkins and is available in Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Disclaimer - I don't work for either of those retailers! I still buy it as its safe for vegans in the family.

Lard. As good as goose fat for roast potatoes, but a fraction of the price. Also good half and half with butter in shortcrust pastry. Less saturated fat than butter too.

Pears soap and euthymol toothpaste when I can find it. Also mustard powder, gelatine leaves, fresh yeast and corn flour.

nozzel · 15/10/2019 13:59

Marmalade, I have just bought a jar this morning.

edgen2019 · 15/10/2019 14:00

Eucryl tooth powder bought at the Pound Shop.

Whathappenedtothelego · 15/10/2019 14:02

Semolina (both dry and tinned, love it)
Cotton hankies
Washing powder
Bars of soap
Tinned cat food - everything seems to be single serve pouches now.
Tinned fruit

PablosHoney · 15/10/2019 14:04

You can get angel delight ready made in pots now

danadas · 15/10/2019 14:07

I use most of these, I think I am old before my time!

Andrews Salts - nothing else works as well for heartburn imo.
Faggots - amazing with peas and chips
Bar soap - I think this will make a comeback with people more plastic aware.
Washing up bowl - I've never understood the need for a dishwasher, washing up takes minutes.
Soda crystals - although these are back in fashion again now I notice.

PigletJohn · 15/10/2019 14:13

I used to like Brain's Faggots, but they have been made more economical. Have a look at the ingredients list. "Rind" means "skin."
