Anyone want to join me on a 'I have arthritis and I'm pissed off thread'?

Just that, really.
I'm sick and tired of various joints deciding to grow bone and hurting like hell.
Today's joy is a painful thumb that really let me know about it when I got stuck in traffic so was turning my ignition on and off.
Attached is a picture of the offending digit, carefully bound in KT tape as that seems to help.....

I'm always pissed off by it.

Cheese gives me flare ups. Cheese ffs! I flipping love cheese.

S'not fair.

somewheresorted · 11/10/2019 21:12

I’ve just eaten a slice of cheese... this arthritis thing is new to me, please don’t tell me that cheese could make it flare! 😭

TonOfLead · 11/10/2019 21:29

Hopefully you won't have that particular curse somewhere

I wore my jeans all day and now my left knee feels like a pumpkin and throbs like buggery - not happy!

ExCwmbranDweller · 11/10/2019 21:39

I need to exercise so I can get my blood pressure down and loose weight. So I did (carefully). This evening some stupid fucking nerve in the middle of my spine decided to object (or get wrapped around one of my 'baroque' bone spurs) and I got stuck in the hall. No movement available that didn't have me shouting out in pain. Cooked dinner, leaning on a stick, via remote control 12 year old and that made me feel so guilty, he shouldn't have to be the one doing all that.

Have to say I love your KT tape there OP, I've not seen such a pretty one before and it goes lovely with your nails. I'm very much in to pimping anything required to help, no NHS beige allowed.

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2019 21:55

cat, I have to be very careful wearing jeans as they can really pull on my lower back.
Ex, I hope it passes quickly! Thank you for the compliment on the tape. Smile

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2019 21:56

Oh and, cat, I use a knee support when mine are playing up.

Ton and somewhere, I too love cheese!

OP posts:
ExCwmbranDweller · 11/10/2019 22:28

I'm ignoring any inferences that cheese could have a negative impact!

Tomorrow will be spent in the company of my wheat bags and the voice in my head telling me I'm an idiot for over doing things mineof

Shoeshelpplease · 11/10/2019 22:31

Can I ask how jeans affect lower back and kneel pain? I suffer both and always wear jeans. Never thought that would be an issue.

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2019 22:38

Shoes, for me it's having something that fits a bit tight (due to elastic, not being too small) that does it.
My lower back easily goes into spasm, and so wearing jeans that fit snug on that part of me doesn't help.

Im fairly new to the world of arthritis (not been to the doc yet am in denial) My knees are the worst at the moment with thumbs and wrists in close second.
Its starting to become a real problem with stairs im only 36 ffs

Aquamarine1029 · 11/10/2019 22:47

I'm so sorry for your suffering, op. I have arthritis and it's awful, especially in my hands. It sucks.

Burpsandrustles · 11/10/2019 22:50

Are there any creep up signs? How do you know you have it? Df had it and was utterly crippled by it.

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/10/2019 22:53

This cold weather has really upset my arthritic feet, really sore last few days. My toes are now really painful sausage toes Hmm Love your KT tape, hope it helps op!

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2019 22:54

Burps, for me, sore joints that I couldn't explain. Thinking that I'd hurt myself and it was taking a long time to go away, for example.
It took me over ten years to get diagnosed.

Cute plaster!

I couldn’t do a thing at work recently coz it involved moving lots of heavy boxes. I wrote a note explaining I couldn’t then an email came round saying “too heavy” was a pathetic excuse. :(
Some days it’s worse than others. Some days I can’t do things.
I’m not old and don’t look ill.

That aspect is almost worse than not being able to put on socks.

ToeTouchingTitties · 11/10/2019 23:26

I’m posting on behalf of my DS (7), because he’s in bed asleep and too young to be on mumsnet. He was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis when he was 5. It’s a absolute tosspot of a disease and I hate it!

somewheresorted · 11/10/2019 23:37

I’m so sorry to hear that Toe that must be very upsetting to see your young Ds suffering like that. It’s hard enough dealing with the pain of arthritis as an adult, I can’t imagine how it must feel to a young child.

tigger001 · 11/10/2019 23:40

Yep, Ive been pulled off my meds as my white blood count dropped dangerously low, so great idea by my specialist to stop my meds 2 days before my holiday, (14th last month) still not had an appointment to discuss next steps and meds review so just in swelling, aching pain !!!!

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2019 23:45

What meds are you on, tigger?

OP posts:
tigger001 · 11/10/2019 23:45

Wow ToeTouchingTitties my heart goes out to you and your DS, it must be so difficult watching them in discomfort. I thought it was early at 30, but 7 is just not fair at all.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 11/10/2019 23:45

Me! I'm only back to work after a depressingly long flare and I struggling already. My elbow is worst today.

I just want to throw something in temper but I cant lol

tigger001 · 11/10/2019 23:49

I'm on sulfasalazine, which helps my arthritis but apparently compromises my immune system too much, so I'm dreading them pushing me on to methotrexate, as I have been trying to hold off.

The way I'm struggling currently though they could give me anything though, or cut my hands, knee and ankle off 😥😥

tigger001 · 11/10/2019 23:52

@mineofuselessinformation do you take anything that helps ? I also have to commend you on your plaster, if you've got to do it. I say do it in style and that is 😀😀
