I don't.

shegoeshere · 11/10/2019 10:46

No decorations. Used to when dc were little, but only on the day. Really can't be bothered with Halloween. I'm an old grump, but we never did anything when I was a child.

Rachelover60 · 11/10/2019 10:52

Fabuleuse
Absolutely never. I don't like Halloween. I let DS go to fancy dress parties in a non-scary type costume but that's it. Apart from that Halloween doesn't exist for us! We live in a small quiet street and no-one seems to go guising here anyway.

I don't live in a small street, it's a fairly main road but quiet, SE London. We never hear or see anything about Halloween either which is fine by me, I think the whole idea is spooky and unpleasant. Certainly not good for children.

I don't. Maybe a pumpkin. The dcs care more about not buying plastic tat now they are older, hooray.

Grandmi · 11/10/2019 10:58

Carved pumpkins when children were younger ...am happy to give out treats Halloween night but def no plastic, unrecyclable tat to be seen !!

thebogwitchisback · 11/10/2019 11:03

My daughter makes Halloween decorations and pictures at nursery, I stick those up but i don't buy things.
I've never really done Halloween.

HavelockVetinari · 11/10/2019 11:19

Stuff goes up in the garden a few days before, comes down on 1st Nov. I leave the pumpkins out for a few days till they go funny, then stick them in the garden waste bin.

Although last year DS was terrified of one of the props, a life-size scary witch that cackles, so I might not put that one up this year.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 11/10/2019 11:22

@falcon5 - Chinese New Year in feb.

TokyoSushi · 11/10/2019 11:26

About 29th at the earliest

MrsFattyBumBum · 11/10/2019 11:29

Getting Halloween treats ready this morning. 🦇🎃👻❤️

Will be getting the decorations and lights down tomorrow from the attic.

When do you put up your Halloween decs?
falcon5 · 11/10/2019 11:30

@BigmouseLittlehouse brilliant ... it's going on the calendar.

MrsFattyBumBum · 11/10/2019 11:30

Alan they are so cute!

Would so get stolen round here though 😂

Aethelthryth · 11/10/2019 11:35

Never

falcon5 · 11/10/2019 11:39

Funnily enough on the treats thing every year two of the most popular games with the children here are bobbing for apples and donuts on a string. Apparently those annoying Romans brought the apple bobbing thing over. I do admit I always have to not think about that agatha christie novel but the children seem fairly unscarred.
We are making sure all sweets this year are unwrapped from loose kilo bags and I've got small orange paper bags to give them out as prizes so we are mindful of reducing the plastic wrappers that way.

AmIChangingagain · 11/10/2019 11:42

I'm another one saying never

I only found out from Mn that this was a thing

JustaScratcj · 11/10/2019 11:51

We only put up Halloween decorations if we're having a Halloween party for DD. Otherwise never. That said, we've had a party every year for the last three years...

kenandbarbie · 11/10/2019 11:58

This weekend I think. The kids are nattering at me to do it so it seems a convenient time.

I have some autumnal leaves, some pumpkins and a witch wreath for the door. Some ghost ornaments and a banner for inside.

The decorations let the local kids know where to trick or treat. I'm in Ireland though so it's more of a thing. Although when I'm in the Uk for Halloween, there's also plenty of houses decorated when we trick or treat.

HJWT · 11/10/2019 12:00

God some people are so sad aren't they, Can't just let people enjoy it they have to call us all 'Mugs' 🙄

My DD has a slight halloween obsession so will probably decorate next week! If I can get DH in the attic for the decorations 😬

KarenWithTheHair · 11/10/2019 12:18

I assumed all the decorations in the shops were for people having parties. Genuinely had no idea that people decorated their homes just because. Not a single person I know does this. And nobody that I’m friends with on fb either because I’m damn sure they’d be posting about it if they did.

PurpleDaisies · 11/10/2019 12:21

Have I got the date of Halloween wrong? It is still nearly three weeks away?

Swisskit · 11/10/2019 12:30

This year it will be Brexit Day, so I might just have Boris' head on a spike in the front garden...

Willow2017 · 11/10/2019 13:49

Genuinely had no idea that people decorated their homes just because

Just because What?

Because we like a bit of fun and love having kids round telling silly jokes or singing?
Because it's nice to join in with community fun?
Because it's been a tradition for long years and adding a bit of decoration to it isn't hurting anyone?
The original pagans dressed up and there have been variations of mischief night, Samhain, and Halloween all over the UK over the years.
Nobody is forcing anyone to do it but some of us do.

soggypizza · 11/10/2019 13:51

I''l carve a pumpkin and put it out on 30th Oct, hoping to attract some of the neighbourhood kids trick or treating, my kids are too big now and get dressed up to go to parties. I'm Irish though, it's a traditional celebration.

zukiecat · 11/10/2019 13:58

Not much in the house but a ritual out in the woods to celebrate Samhain

Our ancestors will be invited to join us, we will eat, drink together

Anyone we want to honour and remember we will write their name on a small piece of paper and put into our fire

theneverendinglaundry · 11/10/2019 14:06

Might carve a pumpkin or two during half term, but that's it.
