a daughter really big for her age

HAPPYMOM363 · 09/10/2019 12:22

She is only 11 and 176cm and 84kg. I am only 155cm and 45kg. It looks really oddSmile She plays basketball and netball and does really well.

It's impossible to find age appropriate cloths.

She used to hate being this big but now she loves it. Would she stop growing or grow up a few more inches??Grin

BMI works very well for about 98% of people, and for those who are very muscly it is generally blindingly obvious to a HCP if they’re actually healthy. This is what those measurements look like on a healthy rugby player who is technically overweight but I bet his GP isn’t worried. It takes a lot of muscle to push though the BMI scale.
OP if your daughter looks like Tom Mitchell then certainly get her checked out!

If people could openly acknowledge that they or their children were overweight this country wouldn't have an obesity issue.

You're daughter is way overweight. She can say she's not until the cows come home. Doesn't change the facts. I know someone who runs marathons. They're still overweight.

It's great she's active. But that doesn't make her being overweight fine.
You need to get her to A Dr to see if there's something wrong. And get a grip on her diet. She doesn't get a say.

ThreeLittleDots · 10/10/2019 13:25

OP has said that her daughter is sporty, fit, looks fit and strong and doesn't carry weight around her middle.

Why are people going on about her being fat or obese?

Growth hormone trouble would be the route to go down, rather than obesity, given OP's comments.

bluebluezoo · 10/10/2019 13:28

Now, I have talked with her again about her weight and in response, she just performed two somersault shock. Then she said,"Do this first and then say me to try to lose weight

Do you mean a somersault as in jump in the air, rotate 360 and land back on her feet? Or do you mean a forward roll where she puts her hands on the floor, rolls, and stands up?

If the former I’m very impressed as that takes a very high strength to weight ratio and fast twitch that usually competitive gymnast have.

If the latter- well I’m 50, very definitely not fit, very definitely 3 st overweight and I can do that. So not really an indicator of whether she’s fit and not overweight.

Maybe I should do it in front of my dr when she says I need to get BMI into normal category to manage my blood pressure. that’ll show her!

Buyitinbamboo · 10/10/2019 13:28

Your daughter sounds fab, I'd love to be that confident. But the fact is most parents don't see that their children are overweight (hence why we have such an obesity problem). I am the same height as your daughter and weigh less and I am currently overweight and 35 weeks pregnant. I would absolutely be going to the GP, probably not with her though.

HAPPYMOM363 · 10/10/2019 13:33

I am referring to the first one @bluebluezoo

I'm 5ft9 and maybe just under 13st. I'm fat. But I've just given birth to my 3rd child.

There's no reason an active 11year old should be this weight.

MustardScreams · 10/10/2019 13:40

Obesity is the second highest cause of cancer in adults. Most obese or overweight children go on to be obese or overweight in adulthood.

Being overweight is incredibly unhealthy, no matter how people try to spin it.

Op would you let your 11 your old smoke? I doubt it. So you need to pull your socks up and get in touch with a dr ASAP.

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 13:47

Your 11 year old is basicay 5'7 and 13 stone.
I'm 29 and I'm 5'10 and 11 stone 10. Im middle range of healthy weight. Your dd must be over weight. I would be a bit concerned about that.

Grimbles · 10/10/2019 13:49

OP has said that her daughter is sporty, fit, looks fit and strong and doesn't carry weight around her middle

She must have lead-lined bones or something then if shes 13st without looking like shes overweight Hmm

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 13:49

On a kids bmi calculator it puts her as VERY overweight.

HAPPYMOM363 · 10/10/2019 13:51

@Drogosnextwife she is 5'9"

OP posts:
Contraceptionismyfriend · 10/10/2019 13:52

Those 2inches aren't going to make her slim.

ThreeLittleDots · 10/10/2019 13:55

She must have lead-lined bones or something then if shes 13st without looking like shes overweight

Which I why I urged OP to take her daughter for tests for gigantism

ClientListQueen · 10/10/2019 13:55

I'm 5ft 9 and would be around a size 12 at 13 stone. Depends where she carried her weight
But I would speak to the GP

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 10/10/2019 13:57

This thread has made me sad. I was 12 and a half stone at a similar age and height growing up. My mum didn't mention a thing, I didn't think I was fat at all but when I told a friend what I weighed she made out that I was enormous. That was the start of an eating disorder and a hugely difficult relationship with food. I still struggle to relate to food properly. I've looked back at pictures and there was nothing wrong with me. I did a lot of sport and it's just how I was built. You haven't seen the OPs daughter yet you still feel qualified to band about terms like obese. Please think about the damage you could do here.

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 13:59

Not according to a concerti on chart for cms to feet. You said she was 176cms, which is 5ft 7 and 1/2 ins.

bluebluezoo · 10/10/2019 14:02

I am referring to the first one @bluebluezoo**

Bloody hell that’s impressive then. I don’t think I’ve seen a 5’9 gymnast able to do a standing somi, let alone one who’s 13 st and presumably not a gymnast?

That’s a very difficult move and even more impressive she can just chuck it at will. Has she ever thought about long/high jump or pole vault?

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 14:02

When I was younger I was very tall. Probably the same height as your dd. I was also fat. I have no idea what weight I was but I was heavy, it's not healthy no matter how many summer sailts she can do.

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 14:06

I'm 5ft 9 and would be around a size 12 at 13 stone. Depends where she carried her weight

Really? I'm 5'10 and 11st10 and I'm a 14 most places, sometimes a 16 Shock

ClientListQueen · 10/10/2019 14:11

@Drogosnextwife I'm a 14 at 14st 7 and a 16 at around 16 stone. Depends where you carry your weight

Drogosnextwife · 10/10/2019 14:26

I suppose so, I've got wide hips but skinny legs. Carry most of my weight on the top half.

picklemepopcorn · 10/10/2019 14:33

I've got lead lined bones. No one ever guessed how heavy I was. Broad back and ribs, broad hips. I'm not very tall, never even managed 5'7", but built wide and deep and very strong. The gym trainer did a strength test and said I shouldn't expect to be within the normal weight range or BMI. My back, aged 15, was 36" with no flab and ribs and spine showing. Had to wear men's shirts to school.

HAPPYMOM363 · 10/10/2019 14:36

@picklemepopcorn what is lead lined bones. Are they harmfull

Grimbles · 10/10/2019 14:40
