How many coats do you own?

Browsing through magazines trashy news websites I see that lots of celebs/politicians/royals seem to have an endless supply of elegant coats. In fact, they hardly ever seem to leave the house wearing the same coat more than once!

I own a paltry collection of 4 coats (light rain mac, warm wool winter coat, a parka and a very scruffy old coat that I wear to my aunt's farm).

How many coats do you own?

About 10. Not including light jackets

BenWillbondsPants · 05/10/2019 11:54

1 Didriksens knee length navy parka for when I'm watching DS play footie

1 knee length grey wool coat

1 camel coloured trencoat

I navy trenchcoat

So 4 actual coats and probably about 10 jackets.

Those of you with 20 etc coats (rather than jackets) where on earth do you keep them, they take up so much space?!

Ninkaninus · 05/10/2019 12:13

I have a generous built in wardrobe which is where I store my actual coats. It’s not so full anymore now that I have got rid of so many earlier this year. Then I have a stand-alone wardrobe for my jackets and blazers.

Lightweight waterproof jacket
Denim jacket x2
Leather jacket
Smart winter coat
Big padded ski style coat, which was a bit of a silly buy as it's very rarely cold enough to wear it!

torthecatlady · 05/10/2019 12:37

One thickish water resistant one and a jacket for skiing / snowboarding.

I could do with a smart coat though for the office and formal occasions.

ImogenTubbs · 05/10/2019 23:54

OMG - where do you store 40 coats???

Remarked · 05/10/2019 23:57

1 warm winter coat.
1 summer jacket
1 thin waterproof
1 of those macs that pack into the hood

Remarked · 05/10/2019 23:58

Pack into the pocket even.

Longdistance · 06/10/2019 00:01

3 wool coats
2 winter coats (another on order)
Ski coat
Rainproof coat
I think that’s it off the top of my head.

My DH converted a spare room into a dressing room for me. Wardrobes along one wall and shoe storage along the other. Smile

1 beautiful cashmere coat that I can't wear in case it gets dirty.
1 ok wool coat
4 ordinary coats
1 parka that I wear all the time

AnyMinuteNow · 06/10/2019 00:33

Why do people want to know about coats every so often?

I don't understand. Why oh why are there coats threads.Confused

BadLad · 06/10/2019 07:58

Couple of knee-length padded (boiler insulating style)
One Clouseau-type mac
Four padded jackets - two really thick, two Uniqlo
Four gilets - two really thick, two Uniqlo

Range from very cheap (Uniqlo) to extremely expensive.

MegaClutterSlut · 06/10/2019 09:28

I only own 2 coats one which dd nicks judging by this thread I'm about 10 too short Confused

GodolphianArabian · 06/10/2019 09:40

I started counting once and was shocked as I easily got to 20. I keep most of them in the cupboard under the stairs. The oldest coat is probably at least 25 years old! It's getting a bit tatty but it's waterproof, loose fitting so you can layer up underneath and has enormous pockets so can put the dog leads away while walking. The other coats are all generally much newer but all serve a purpose depending on weather and location.

Heyboyo · 06/10/2019 09:43

About 15 but wear the same 2 coats all the time

itbemay1 · 06/10/2019 09:44

3 - Uniqlo lightweight jacket, Uniqlo full on warm coat & a smart Mac style

I've got loads of wardrobe space but I couldn't fit all my coats in it as well as jackets, dresses, skirts, tops and all the other stuff that needs hanging up. Some of you must live in mansions! #jealous

GrapefruitGin · 06/10/2019 09:50

Too many that I have a separate small wardrobe for my coats/jackets in our master bedroom. I could do with a clear out Blush

Violetroselily · 06/10/2019 10:00

One woolly winter coat

One smart black wool-like coat which I'd wear too funerals

One long black mac

One leather jacket

One denim jacket

One fold up cagoul

Ninkaninus · 06/10/2019 11:34

@BenWillbondsPants I actually maintain a small and quite strictly curated capsule wardrobe, so my clothes don’t take up much space - I only ever have 3 or 4 pairs of jeans at any one time, for example. 3 or 4 pairs of work trousers, plus 3 or 4 pairs of trousers for general wear. A few pairs of leggings and jeggings. 4 or 5 shirts/blouses for work, 4 or 5 skirts for work, 2 or 3 dresses for work. For down time I have 2 zip hoodies, 2 or 3 jumpers, 4 or 5 plain tees, 2 or 3 plain tops, 2 or 3 tops with some point of interest, 2 or 3 sweatshirts, 2 or 3 shirts, 2 tees with some point of interest, 2 or 3 dresses, 2 or 3 skirts.

Most of that is folded and lives in my standalone wardrobe on a set of shelves.

The only things I hang are the ones that won’t do well being folded, so a couple of pairs of trousers, a couple of silk shirts, and a handful of ‘going out’ dresses.

I don’t live in a mansion. In fact I live in a flat that is really a little too small for the two of us - we can’t live in the house we own as we need to be elsewhere for work!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/10/2019 12:46

1 grey parka style coat - worn autumn to spring, whenever it is cold enough
1 men's outdoor jacket, blue - bought second hand, because it has 16 pockets of all sizes
1 yellow down jacket - bought when the temps went down to -30 one year, now worn by anyone in the family who needs it
1 black poncho style coat - bought 19 years ago when I had to carry DD1 in a sling

NotQuiteUsual · 06/10/2019 13:39

None. I lost my only one last winter and there's more important things to buy right now. I don't feel the cold much though, hence why it's at the bottom of the priority list.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/10/2019 16:20

A PS waterproof commuter
A purple cotton mac
A leopard print cotton mac
A leather biker jacket
A black bomber
A lightweight navy hooded coat
A green military style coat that I get the most wear out of
A red wool wrap coat
A smart black knee-length wool-cashmere coat
A fleece jacket I only wear if I'm going to the gym and guaranteed not to bump into anyone I know!
A denim jacket

I think I might have too many coats!!
