How many coats do you own?

Browsing through magazines trashy news websites I see that lots of celebs/politicians/royals seem to have an endless supply of elegant coats. In fact, they hardly ever seem to leave the house wearing the same coat more than once!

I own a paltry collection of 4 coats (light rain mac, warm wool winter coat, a parka and a very scruffy old coat that I wear to my aunt's farm).

How many coats do you own?

One raincoat
One winter wool coat
One autumn/spring coat
A denim jacket (if that counts)

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/10/2019 17:58

Fleece for at school (with logo and name).
Pack a mac that lives in my backpack.
Olive green anorak type thing with a hood for chilly weather.
Knee length regatta puffy coat for properly cold weather. It gets a fresh coat of waterproof spray every autumn in anticipation of the wet weather.

I don’t have a formal woollen coat any more. If I have need of one (winter funerals usually, thankfully few and far between) I wear a blazer, carry a black umbrella, and hope I don’t have to be out in the frost for too long.

Dowser · 04/10/2019 17:58

Loads
I wear two or three mainly

No idea why you’d need 30+ coats

What has need got to do with it? I have loads of coats because I want to.

ImogenTubbs · 04/10/2019 18:08

I have a floor length cashmere coat I've had for about 20 years which I love. It's super warm.

Knee length wool coat which is my go to winter option. It's jewel green which is my favorite colour.

Plus a Burberry Mac that I got with a gift voucher about a decade ago. Also love it!

A few blazer type things and body warmers and hoodies. Oh, and I bought a rain anorak in Aldi this summer.

Clearly I need more coats Grin

Zeldasmagicwand · 04/10/2019 18:09

Loads, from a size 10 to 20. Sad

verytiredandstressed · 04/10/2019 18:22

I lived buying coats and jackets
Every winter I buy a new coat and I say I'm not going to buy another one .
1 blue wool coat
1 check wool coat
1 faux fur coat
I parka
Purple long blazer
Biker jacket black
Biker jacket grey
Blue anorak
2 pink jackets
Black faux leather jacket
Black blazer
Teddy jacket
Denim jacket
Velvet jacket
I think that's it Hmm

Laniakea · 04/10/2019 18:27

Four (denim jacket, faux fur jacket, longish wool one, parka) - all ancient and none waterproof!

SingingSands · 04/10/2019 18:35

Oh God. Too many. SO many - forty?

This is why:

My mum loves to buy me coats at Christmas and then again in the January sales. I've asked her not to, but it makes no difference.

Sometimes MIL buys me a coat in the January sales too!

I'm an unintentional coat magnet. I really need to toughen up.

FurrySlipperBoots · 04/10/2019 18:38

I ancient mint icecream colour coat, Animal I think. I'm going to KonMarie it though, as I think it's size 12 and it's been some years since I last was!

I ancient purple horse riding coat, 'Mountain Horse' I think the brand is called, I must have had it a good 10 years and it's not faded or anything, zip still going strong etc. It's maybe not as waterproof as it could be anymore, but

I have 2 basic Mountain warehouse purple waterproof jackets. I used to have one with the waterproof trousers, the trousers ripped in a somewhat embarrassing place, so I bought new ones but realised they were a darker shade and looked daft with the old jacket. So I bought a new one. They're those ones that roll down into a little bag, really handy. I'm going to keep the old faded one in the boot of my car for emergencies.

1 posh La Redoute black belted coat with a faux fur collar. I think this one is only a size 10!! I'm wanting to get rid but I can't just charity shop it because it cost around £100 and I only wore it 3 or 4 times. I don't know what to do with it really. No one seems interested in second hand expensive clothes.

Yep, that's it. So 5, shortly to be 3.

firstimemamma · 04/10/2019 18:41

3 but only really wear 1

FurrySlipperBoots · 04/10/2019 18:43

I don't feel remotely ashamed. I am on the hunt for a fur coat, needs to not be bulky though, that finishes just above knee height. In either grey or dark black. But it's proving elusive!

I hear dalmatian puppies are the way to go - soft and warm and not too bulky. You could easily dye such a coat black too.

bloodywhitecat · 04/10/2019 18:46

Two. A Barbour for walking the dogs, going to the forest etc and a three quarter length coat from White Stuff for when I go to town or out and about.

PanamaPattie · 04/10/2019 18:52

Over 40. I blame my DM. I love a new wool coat, scarf, gloves and black leather boots.

Wallywobbles · 04/10/2019 19:01

About 20 coats and jackets. It's an outrageous quantity but I'm a terrible yo-yo dieter sadly.

lljkk · 04/10/2019 20:41

Things I would call a coat I can only think of one. Cast off from BIL. I wear it maybe 2x/yr.

Jackets: 2 cast off fleeces, at least 3 cycling ones, one 'smart' one (also worn about once a yr, 2 waterproofs for walking.

1 x Blazer: It's almost a cardigan, really. This is the only smart item in above list. Worn once in last yr.

Prettypumpkin · 04/10/2019 20:59

A light weight mac type Barbour, a shooting Barbour, a quilted jacket, a rain mac, a black one for funerals, a navy "posh" coat (I cent for the life of me remember what youd call it right now but it's a smart mid calf one). 2 soft shells and a mac for on our farm.

Quite a few then, I love coats

MustardScreams · 04/10/2019 21:01

1 wax jacket
1 padded warm short jacket
A light mac
Black wool coat for smart occasions
Light Barbour jacket
Waterproof coat
Long grey blazer style
Leather jacket
Oversized denim. I think that’s it!

WalkAwaySugarbear · 04/10/2019 21:07

3 smart coats: a camel wrap, a brown wool and a tan military jacket.
3 hooded coats in different colours and waterproof ness.
A thin bomber style jacket and a light mac.

Spied · 04/10/2019 21:11

1 knee-length padded winter coat (sporty)
1 plum coloured short bomber style with furry hood
1 burgundy padded Parker
I grey wool swing style ( I don't wear)
3 lightweight spring type (1 navy 1 grey 1 khaki)
I navy quilted Barbour-style
I oversized denim jacket ( I don't wear)
1 dressy pink blazer (worn only once)

thecatneuterer · 04/10/2019 21:11

Far too many to count, but fewer than I have pairs of shoes, or tops, or trousers.

VictoriaBun · 04/10/2019 21:14

I am ashamed to say I have no idea. Lots. Most I have never worn. But lots , some are vintage ( 20+ years old )

pickletickled · 04/10/2019 21:21

Quick count in my head (there could be more)
15 I think
However, they're shared out between sizes 10, 12 and 14 (thanks thyroid!)

rockingthelook · 04/10/2019 21:25

Very lucky to say about 15, when I was a kid, 2, one for home and one for school

MWNA · 05/10/2019 06:50

I don't own a single coat.
