Have you put your heating on yet?

I think this is the first year that I've managed not to have the heating on during the summer at some point. I live in the north west and June is often pretty chilly at times. This last week has been pretty cold but I've been determined to stick it out as is only cold when we first get up and if I'm home alone during the day. I just put my dressing gown and socks on and I'm fine. I live with my 3 dc so no one to argue with over the heating which is great but I'm conscious of the financial and environmental impact of central heating and trying to cut down. Won reduced my payments from £150 a month to £139 and I don't want it to increase again.

Is yours on yet? If so, where abouts in the UK do you live?

Ours has been on, but only because it took our landlord three weeks to replace our broken washer dryer, and when it did finally arrive it was just a washing machine with no tumble dry function. The most enormous backlog of clothes needing to be washed and dried has meant I've had to have the heating on to speed up the process. My house looks like a Victorian laundrette, and has a humid atmosphere on par with a rainforest Grin

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/10/2019 11:26

Mine is on. I’m incredibly stingy about the heating and we have a smart meter which guilts me to death but I’m on maternity leave so home during the day and I can’t be mean about heating with a baby here.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 01/10/2019 11:27

Landlords can be shit can't they? I was pregnant with dc3 and the heating on the ground and middle floor stopped working in December. It took 3 weeks to get someone out. The landlord gave me an electric fan heater for the living room but downstairs the kitchen was freezing. I used to come down and put the gas burners and oven on to warm us up. I worked from home too so wasn't pleasant at all. I use my drier far too much and would like one of those heated airers.

Sadly can't afford to! Have been sorting out warmer bedding and onesies for the dc -

Lllot5 · 01/10/2019 11:28

No not yet in south east. Not got a jumper on yet still in t shirt in doors jacket/ cardi when I go out.

AliceLittle · 01/10/2019 11:33

Only once so far this year which reminds me I need to clean behind the radiators because it stank of hot dust when I did.

BogglesGoggles · 01/10/2019 11:35

Only in the bathroom. We have an old house with stone walls so some of the heat from summer lingers still. I would imagine that it will be on (at night in the children’s rooms at least) by the end of the month. Not a fan of heating though. Much prefer to jumper up first.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 01/10/2019 11:36

Windydaysuponus that's awful and it makes me so angry that I'm 2019 people can't afford to heat their homes. I think the winter fuel payment should be means tested not just a pensioner benefit. I appreciate they are more vulnerable to the cold but so are children or those with chronic health conditions. Lots of older people in my area are pretty well off. My mum only has her state pension and uses her fuel payment for Christmas presents then worries about her fuel bill 🙄 I've had words! I also think the payment should go straight to the fuel companies then it's used for what it's meant for.

I put mine on last night for an hour, we all got soaked in the rain so came home, put the heating on, nice hot bath and fleece pj's. I'm in North East England.

lassofthenorth · 01/10/2019 11:38

Yes it has clicked on all week, sent to 18 degrees on a timer. It’s single figures here today and rainy with 3 degrees forecast tonight.

I am really sorry to hear you can’t afford it Windy. I would hate to be cold. Sad

Windydaysuponus · 01/10/2019 11:39

Weather warnings here for flooding on the seafront today.
Have told ddog not to expect a walk just yet!

Newearringsplease · 01/10/2019 11:39

I'm in the Midlands I've still got doors and windows open

64sNewName · 01/10/2019 11:40

We put ours on yesterday for the first time, but I’ve been using the electric blanket for a while.

(Central Scotland)

chesterfuckingdraws · 01/10/2019 11:41

Mine has been on a few times over the last few weeks I usually hold off until the end of October but had to give in. I'm in central Scotland and it's been a bit cold, wet and miserable recently.

The thicker duvet went on at the weekend along with the heavier bedding but there's been a few evenings the heating has been on at 18 or 20.

TheNavigator · 01/10/2019 11:42

I'm in Scotland and a firm believer in acclimatising to the colder weather, so no heating on yet. Having said that, we are all out during the day.

Asta19 · 01/10/2019 11:42

I'm in London and it's still mild here, 17 today. So haven't used my heating yet.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 01/10/2019 11:42

I've still got my summer duvet on and sleep with the window open. Ds sleeps in with me at the moment and he's like a hot water bottle. When I get his new bed I'm going to need my warmer duvet!

Ours clicked on (set to 18° from 7am) in the mornings a couple of times in that last week of warm weather as it was cold overnight but it hasn't come on again since the wet/windy weather started. It's pretty mild here in the SE (17-18°) I'm still in jeans, teeshirts and sandals most days, coat only needed to keep the rain off.

pumpkinpie01 · 01/10/2019 11:45

Put ours on for first time last night, and it made me cry a bit ! (My DD went to uni a fortnight ago so I went into her room before turning it on to turn her radiator off , sat in her room for a bit had a blub then came out. Really missing her definitely wrong time of the month , I'm not normally that emotional !)

FuzzyPuffling · 01/10/2019 11:48

No. It might go on in January for a n hour or so.
You think I'm kidding? I'm not.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 01/10/2019 11:49

pumpkinpie01 Thanks my 3 have threatened to live with me forever but I think they'll change their minds. The DDs go to their dad's EOW and I hate seeing their empty rooms.

North west here we've not had anything on from early May. Its not been a September temp wise so it's not on yet but temps are dropping this week, We will probably start putting it on. I'm home but have a jumper on and I'm not cold yet....

RIBlue · 01/10/2019 12:02

Got mine on for an hour in the morning and a couple in the evening. Got a very old house with a damp problem; trying to get ahead of that so we don’t get to the condensation running down the walls stage!

Katinski · 01/10/2019 12:04

I'm invariably cold and just don't get this "just put a jumper on" type remark. It's the ambient room temp.that's got to be toasty for me.So, just me then?Confused

PotterHead1985 · 01/10/2019 12:05

Lit the fire last night. Freezing here as house is full of holes and badly built and I live RIGHT next the sea. It's 6 degrees. Will probably light again tonight especially if this nasty wind and rain keeps up. SE Ireland.
