What small things in life make you happy?

.. just that really. Last night i had a cheap bottle of wine and indulged in crappy telly for the eve and i were happy as a clam. What little things do you do, or buy yourself as a treat, for a cheeky burst of happy?

Cheap things - some plants and flowers, for instance I spent £10 on pansies, violas and three heathers last week and they are outside my French doors for the winter in two pots and a hanging basket.

Feeding the birds.

Light my candles, put on the lava lamp, get out my sofa blanket and indulge in 'Made for TV films'. The type you get on the Hallmark channel. Light shining on water and forest walks or bike rides also give me a sense of calm.

Mileometer on the car going to a special number like 12345 or 33333.
Though that's not as good as the 'old days' watching the mechanical ones switching from 49999 to 50000.

Laid in bed with a good book and a box of chocolates.
Also, a day off work where I will walk I to town and grab a sandwich and cake and bring them home and slob on the sofa watching daytime tv.

Watching a tv programme I really enjoy with tea and chocolate completely uninterrupted or the same with a magazine

Sleepin · 26/09/2019 12:51

Driving in the motorway and singing along to great tunes!

crazylady7 · 26/09/2019 13:11

Toast with peanut butter and jam Grin

Doormat247 · 26/09/2019 13:15

Being out in the countryside seeing something beautiful always makes me happy.
Having my window boxes and hanging baskets flowering and looking pretty.
A nice box of chocolates to eat in one sitting.
Day Trips with my DP.

A sunny, breezy day
A nice walk
A lovely view
The seaside
Cup of tea and some lovely cake
Dogs

If I can combine all of these by walking a dog on a beach on a sunny day followed by tea and cake at a cafe with a view, I'm a very happy bunny 😁

Your phrase ‘happy as a clam’ made me smile, i’ve never heard it before and somehow it made me happy Smile

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 26/09/2019 13:21

Cuddling my dog.

yellowallpaper · 26/09/2019 13:22

I love having a shower and then getting into clean pyjamas and fresh bedding and snuggling in to watch some mindless Netflix or read a book.

Bbq1 · 26/09/2019 13:28

A good book
Playing with my cat
A cup of tea
A shoulder rub from dh
Days out with dh and ds

Bbq1 · 26/09/2019 13:29

Oh and candles and chocolate!

Bezalelle · 26/09/2019 13:29

Running my hands over DP's head when he's shaved it!

And Japanese washi tape. Love the stuff.

haveagoldstar · 26/09/2019 13:29

A clear night with a beautiful view of the stars. Full moon is extra super happiness.

I find the universe so intriguing and incredibly humbling so a clear night is pure joy to me.

Also Sunsets and Sunrises.

YorkieTheRabbit · 26/09/2019 13:32

My dogs
Cutting flowers from the garden
Watching the birds on the bird feeder
Cooking, just made an apple pie and it smells delicious Smile

exexpat · 26/09/2019 13:35

yearinyearout That sounds like my kind of perfect afternoon too. Watching my dog running along with his ears flapping in the wind always makes me smile

Browsing in a good bookshop (and usually buying at least one book)

Being stopped by one of the neighbourhood cats with a 'please scratch behind my ears' type of request

Spotting interesting wildlife while walking/driving - red kites hovering overhead, a deer breaking cover, a clump of unusual fungi or flowers

Drogosnextwife · 26/09/2019 13:36

The smell of the outside air in the morning. I frosty, sunny morning. Saturday and Sunday mornings, knowing we have the whole day and no work or school. Saturday nights when dh does a night shift and my 2 boys sleep in beside me.

Drogosnextwife · 26/09/2019 13:38

Oh and being out in the country side. I think if I lived out in the country, I would be a much happier person.

caringiscreepy · 26/09/2019 13:39

Watching a good movie in bed with a hot water bottle and some hot chocolate. Heaven!

CroissantsAtDawn · 26/09/2019 13:39

These sound lovely. I want to enjoy life more but am stuck in an awful treadmill of DC and work atm.

I'm very time poor and even when I have a bit of time, I'm too busy trying to catch up on doing stuff that I don't do simple things to make me happy.

The only thing that is really for me is going swimming. But even that is tricky, as I have to be well (not easy), have time (normally a slot is "reserved" for me at the weekends but then something will happen to throw it off) and even then I'm rushing to fit in as long a swim as possible in the short time I have. So it's speedwalk to the pool, get changed really fast, swim as fast as possible while cursing the idiots who swim slowly in the fast lane get dressed fast, speedwalk home, have a quick shower and....go onto the next task.

Fivechatchacha · 26/09/2019 13:42

Books, podcasts, aromatherapy pillow spray, a nice coffee once a day, drinking tea or coffee outside on a cold day from a big mug, heavy rain on the window, DC snuggles, hot buttered toast, a visit to the library without DC, a tidy, clean room with no clutter, bumping into a friend and both having time to chat.
