DDs foot turning inwards after injury, quite worried

4YO DD had a bad fall at school on Thursday last week and hurt her head and hurt her foot. She was limping and her foot was very obviously twisted inwards. She has always had a slightly turned in foot but it seems much worse all of a sudden.
We took her to A&E who x rayed etc but couldn't see anything and have referred us to the fracture clinic on Monday.
She went back to school today but is now limping again and her foot is still very curved in to the point it looks clubbed (very upsetting for me to see as I suffered dreadfully with a severely clubbed foot until I was well in to my teens)
Should I wait to see the fracture clinic or do something else? I don't know if she should be back in school if she's limping everywhere but she's not complaining of any pain.

I'm just so anxious about it and really don't know what to do for the best. It looks so twisted.

The thing is she doesn't really seem to be in pain. It just looks so twisted.

Ds had that at about 18 months.
He wouldn't weight bare for about a week, then when he walked he had his foot twisted at an angle and walked on his toe. That lasted about 10 days before he suddenly put his foot down and walked normally from then after.

He'd had several scans/x-rays and nothing had come up, so they thought it was probably a soft tissue injury, and then it was partially fear of it hurting/habit.

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 08:58

Her limp is much worse today and she threw up twice randomly in the night. She's also got a very swollen lymph node in her neck. I'm so worried.
Have booked an emergency appt at the Gp for later today.

Glad she's being seen today. I hope it's nothing serious.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/09/2019 09:09

Given that she's getting worse, you're absolutely doing the right thing getting an emergency GP appointment.

I wouldn't send her into school either - quite apart from the vomiting, I wouldn't want her running around on a foot like that and possibly making it worse.

Hopefully it's something that rest and possibly a bit of physiotherapy will solve.

Me too Sad. I'm trying not to over react but all these things happening together is setting off alarm bells.

Little poppet hope she is ok .

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 26/09/2019 12:14

I'm surprised they let her leave with it looking twisted.

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 14:11

She's been referred for an urgent blood test (but the earliest we can be seen in Wednesday) She has four very swollen lymph nodes. I'm really worried.

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 16:32

Thanks Screaming. I just feel sick to my stomach. I have no idea how severe four swollen nodes is. Ever since her fall she hasn't been right and even over the summer she has been more lethargic/irritable than usual. I don't know how I'm going to function until the results come back. I just want to know she is ok Sad.

Hope she’s ok OP, keep us updated Flowers

I have no idea how severe four swollen nodes is

It doesn't necessarily mean anything serious at all. A virus can cause swollen lymph nodes.

An urgent blood test would have been taken same day surely? You are waiting almost a week, that sounds very routine.

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 17:09

He said urgent but the receptionist said the wait was because she was so little? So the test needs to be done differently. Earliest was Wednesday.

If her foot is turning inwards I would ask for her hip (and knee) to be assessed as well

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 18:59

Yeah, it does look like the twisting is coming from further up. She's sort of swinging the whole leg round when she walks iyswim. It's just such a worry that all of this has happened at once.

DancingWithDogs · 26/09/2019 20:53

I hope you get the results quickly and she's okay x

RagamuffinCat · 26/09/2019 20:57

Did the hospital x-ray the hip and leg, or just the foot? I would take her back.

distractingdissertation · 26/09/2019 21:09

If it helps we went through something similar with DS. He started with vomiting, but afterwards was tired and lethargic for weeks, looked pale, then had swollen glands, a rash and finally developed a limp and stopped weightbearing completely on that leg. I was beside myself with worry about what could tie all these symptoms together. We were admitted to children's ward for urgent blood tests, x rays and scans and it was all very scary. It was the fact the limp was not related to any fall or accident that was the main red flag in our case - so it's reassuring that your daughters has come on after a known accident. After a worrying time it was decided it was all viral, coupled with him being a bit anaemic due to not having much appetite following the vomiting. The leg thing was a viral arthritis in his hip - a reaction to the overall virus. It cleared up on its own over a few weeks. We were warned it might happen again when he got viruses but in our case it never has.

It's easy to jump to the worst possible outcome but there are lots of funny viruses and bugs around. If the doctor was very worried they would have sent you up to childrens ward. Try not to worry too much until you know (easier said than done - I know).

MayorMumbum · 26/09/2019 21:57

They only x rayed her foot but as I say she doesn't really seem to be in any pain with it, but her walking looks so off.
I'm just terrified it's all connected and could be something horrible. I'm trying not to let my anxiety get the better of me but I just love her so much.

spiderlight · 27/09/2019 09:31

Holding your hand. Hopefully it's just some virus lurking in her system that she's fighting off.
