DDs foot turning inwards after injury, quite worried

4YO DD had a bad fall at school on Thursday last week and hurt her head and hurt her foot. She was limping and her foot was very obviously twisted inwards. She has always had a slightly turned in foot but it seems much worse all of a sudden.
We took her to A&E who x rayed etc but couldn't see anything and have referred us to the fracture clinic on Monday.
She went back to school today but is now limping again and her foot is still very curved in to the point it looks clubbed (very upsetting for me to see as I suffered dreadfully with a severely clubbed foot until I was well in to my teens)
Should I wait to see the fracture clinic or do something else? I don't know if she should be back in school if she's limping everywhere but she's not complaining of any pain.

I'm just so anxious about it and really don't know what to do for the best. It looks so twisted.

Please stay off google, it would drive the most sanguine of people nuts! I hope you get more definitive results soon. It all sounds horribly traumatic for everyone.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/10/2019 09:21

I am no expert but I thought that the rash like appearance you can get before diagnosis was broken blood vessels creating blood spots under the skin. If you do google most of the other rashes seem to be treatment related.

It's the uncertainty I'm finding hardest to cope with. She needs follow up tests on Friday then more waiting. Mean while this rash keeps spreading even three days in and she'll now hardly eat anything. She will drink though but all I can get her to eat is chocolate/sweet stuff. My biggest fear is she has something serious that's getting worse because they think it's something else.

Ask lots of questions, take a notebook
Ask what's been done, what are thinking or ruling out.

Sadly you do have to advocate for yourself, have you anyone who could come with you both

T1gerEye · 08/10/2019 10:36

You poor thing. My heart goes out to you

What time is your appointment with the doctor? Can you ask him/her to tell you this isn't serious and how they (at the hospital) have come to this conclusion and ruled out something more serious? Can you go back up to the hospital?

MayorMumbum · 08/10/2019 10:47

They are due to repeat the blood tests on Friday. The first time we went to hospital they said she didn't even need further tests Hmm. This is despite the concern of our GP who knows DD and has been dealing with her illnesses for over six weeks now.
The second time she went to hospital the senior consultant was fuming that they had said she needs no further tests and scheduled one for Friday. He diagnosed her with hand foot and mouth but it is a lot worse now and all over (but not in or around her mouth, weirdly) we're now three days in and it's now spread to her torso. I know from experience also that blood work can change quite rapidly if there is something wrong.
It's just the waiting. She isn't sleeping. I've had less than eight hours sleep in three days (I wish I exaggerating).
I've just got this horrible feeling there is something seriously wrong.
I don't trust the doctors and I don't trust myself because I'm a lifelong sufferer of severe anxiety and have so often been wrong too.
Sorry. Just needed a rant.
DHs work has been fantastic so I'm able to have him with us.

Rant away, your having a horrible time of it.
Your poor DD. Thanks

Lindy2 · 08/10/2019 12:27

I hope you get some answers at your appointment.
If the rash is all over it doesn't sound like hand, foot and mouth to me. Some general viruses can cause rashes though.
I hope she starts to feel better soon.

INeedNewShoes · 08/10/2019 12:38

DD had a run of one illness after another last autumn and two of those were viruses that came with a head to toe rash.

MayorMumbum · 08/10/2019 12:52

It's not hand foot and mouth. Dr thinks it's a viral rash and unless she takes a bad turn for the worst we just have to wait for the blood tests on Friday.
I'm taking reassurance that she seems OK in herself. Not overly unwell. Off of her food (though I've been able to tempt her with a kinder egg). She just seems a bit under the weather.
Usually I'd feel reassured but in the context of everything else that's happened/been said I'm completely terrified.

Try and believe the doctor. Try and place faith in them. They're the experts and they're not too concerned

We've all had a spell of this with our kids at some point. Try and rest and relax as much as you can. Stop googling. It really will all be well in the end

5pairsofwellies · 08/10/2019 14:18

Has anyone mentioned HSP - Henoch-Schonlein purpura. That presents with a very distinctive rash, swollen/stiff joints and lethargy. It may have already been mentioned and ruled out but for some reason it often gets overlooked.

JeffreyJefferson · 08/10/2019 14:33

This sounds horrific for you both op. Big hugs. Hope you get some answers soon xx

timeforawine · 08/10/2019 15:07

Really hoping everything is ok OP and hope you both get some good sleep soon

ginyogarepeat · 09/10/2019 10:07

How is she (and you) today OP?

spiderlight · 09/10/2019 10:36

I hope she's a bit better today.

WellThisIsShit · 09/10/2019 10:49

What a horribly trying time for you OP. So hard to keep anxiety at bay whilst not knowing what level of anxiety is a ‘healthy’ reaction to a worrying situation.

Enough to drive your brain around in circles at 90 miles an hour in the wee small hours.

Keep sane, keep firm and keep looking after yourself as well as your dd.

timeforawine · 09/10/2019 11:56

How are things OP?

MayorMumbum · 09/10/2019 13:54

Hi everyone. After getting back from our GP yesterday we noticed DD had blood in her poo (sorry for TMI) so we went back to hospital once again.
The Dr there said it is almost certainly hand foot and mouth and they did repeat bloods which came back normal! They also, to be completely certain, gave her a chest x Ray (again, all normal) so we're feeling hugely relieved. They're not sure why she has been so poorly but think the blood may be due to all the anti biotics. The rash also seems to have finally stopped spreading.
So now we are being referred to a paediatrician at the hospital just for monitoring. They just think that everything happening at once (her fracture and back to back viruses) made her immune system go a bit crazy. So nothing conclusive, but nothing serious, which is good enough for me at this point in time.
Just trying to adjust out of panic mode and to trust what we've been told is right and that things will be OK.

That sounds much more positive antibiotics can play havoc with the digestive system your poor girl has certainly been through it, hopefully you are a bit better having that reassurance Flowers

ginyogarepeat · 09/10/2019 14:38

That's much more positive news - delighted for you!

Lindy2 · 09/10/2019 15:08

That sounds like good news.

Hopefully your DD will start to feel better very soon.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/10/2019 15:10

Very glad to hear things are more positive now. I hope your DD recovers quickly

spiderlight · 09/10/2019 15:34

So relieved for you. Hopefully she'll be on the mend soon and you can stop worrying.
