DDs foot turning inwards after injury, quite worried

4YO DD had a bad fall at school on Thursday last week and hurt her head and hurt her foot. She was limping and her foot was very obviously twisted inwards. She has always had a slightly turned in foot but it seems much worse all of a sudden.
We took her to A&E who x rayed etc but couldn't see anything and have referred us to the fracture clinic on Monday.
She went back to school today but is now limping again and her foot is still very curved in to the point it looks clubbed (very upsetting for me to see as I suffered dreadfully with a severely clubbed foot until I was well in to my teens)
Should I wait to see the fracture clinic or do something else? I don't know if she should be back in school if she's limping everywhere but she's not complaining of any pain.

I'm just so anxious about it and really don't know what to do for the best. It looks so twisted.

Don't worry about school attendance. She is aged 4. She doesn't actually even need to legally be in school until the term after her 5th birthday.
Resting her foot and building up her strength again is more important.

Well today she seems quite lethargic and clingy but we were at hospital very late. Also had a bit of a temp so I'm going to see if she's better tomorrow after a full night's sleep. If not we have open access to the paed unit for three days so I can bring her back in (but will probably get sent home again)
DH thinks she's just tired but every little thing is making me worry. I'll be alright for a little while and then the complete terror of yesterday will creep back in.

Ds used to be sent regularly for bloods with non-fading rashes.

Always a viral rash. What they said was that when it brings up an anomaly for viral infection, it's the right side of abnormal-the side where yes, it is abnormal, but nothing too worrying.

The "magic cream" is great. Only thing is ds is majorly allergic to it, so he can't have it. He's very good about having blood tests, and watches asking questions... right up till the point he faints, which is a little bit entertaining.
When they're your dc's size, one way to do it, is put them on your lap with their hands behind you and hug them tightly. That way they can't see the needle about to go in, and I always found that helped a lot.
And sweet in mouth and bribe with a treat when it's over.

In hospital again. She woke up with a bad rash on her feet and hands so possibly hand foot and mouth on top of whatever else is wrong. I can't really take this anymore Sad

Your poor little girl. You've acted quickly and got her in the right place. I hope that things are looking up for you all soon.

mankyfourthtoe · 06/10/2019 09:35

Oh bless her. Hope you get some answers.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 06/10/2019 14:34

Poor little mite! What a time you're having. Are they now sure it's hand, foot & mouth or are they still testing?

spiderlight · 06/10/2019 16:56

Oh, poor little mite, and poor you! :(

happytoday73 · 06/10/2019 18:04

How's it going OP? Did you manage to get any answers today?

MayorMumbum · 06/10/2019 20:02

Well she definitely has hand foot and mouth (as well as whatever her underlying problem is) Her feet look horrendous and I'm not sure how bad it has to get before it needs seeing to? She is lethargic but OK but it just looks horrendous Sad. I desperately don't want to bring her back to hospital if I can help it but I'm so concerned at how quick it's spread.

They now want follow up blood tests done but the Dr has said he feels its almost impossible to be something too sinister. Says the lymph nodes aren't very large and her blood results would be much more alarming but I just don't know. I googled (like an idiot) and have terrified myself all over again.

It's taken such a toll on us. Its as if she has something else every day and I'm not sure how much longer I can go on being in this state of anxiety. I'm a bit of a wreck.

Trying to take comfort in the fact that she is eating and drinking OK and for the most part doesn't seem too unwell. I'm so desperate for this all to stop.

They saw her this morning but it looks much worse now.

I can't imagine how you're feeling OP. It's terrifying when your DC are ill. Sending you both love and unmumsnetty hugs. You've got this Thanks

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 06/10/2019 20:54

How is her temperature OP?
It's good that she's eating and drinking.
Is she playing at all?

AudacityOfHope · 06/10/2019 22:50

HFM is nasty, my son was really miserable with it and passed it on to the rest of us too.

It sounds like they're being super cautious but are really pretty secure in their thinking that your daughters immune system has just come in for a bit of a beating lately.

Ill kids are just the worst, your heart is in your mouth every minute until they're better. I feel for you. Thanks

MayorMumbum · 06/10/2019 23:41

She's awake and completely fed up with the itching. Just smothering her in cream and trying to keep her mind off of it.
Her temp is OK but she is being very grumpy and only wants her Dad. In for (yet another) long night.

She is probably quite run down with the injury, the blood test stress, school etc. This will make her more likely to pick up stuff.

Just to give you another perspective
If you had met DS2 as a toddler you would have assumed he had a very worrying medical problem. He was pale, lethargic, small with a poor appetite, frequent fevers and vomiting. His blood tests would have been abnormal. In his case it was chronic tonsillitis. He could never quite shake off the infection even with antibiotics. As soon as we identified what the problem was and got his tonsils taken out he started to thrive.
So I can understand why you are worried that it could be something more serious but just to flag that even a relatively minor infection can cause debilitating symptoms if the child can’t get rid of it n

DaveTheGhost · 06/10/2019 23:57

I hope she’s feeling okay OPFlowers

MayorMumbum · 07/10/2019 08:04

She has them on her ear lobes ffs. She is so uncomfortable Sad

KTD27 · 07/10/2019 08:11

Oh your poor poppet. HFAM is such a bastard. She has my sympathies. I’ve nursed both of mine through it. I also know how terrifying it is to have a child with medical issues - currently sat in paeds ward with mine. Flowers for you. And deep breaths. Hope she is better soon.

Borderscotch · 07/10/2019 20:51

Bless her. If her mouth is sore frozen bananas were suggested to me. You must be exhausted. If you're worried do go back, but hfm is nasty for some and mild for others. I had one of each.

MayorMumbum · 08/10/2019 08:18

Have to go back in to be seen.
The rash is now all over her body, but oddly none in her mouth or around her mouth. It's been three days now and it's still getting worse. How bad can hand foot and mouth get?

OP posts:
MayorMumbum · 08/10/2019 09:06

Leukaemia can cause a rash can't it? I know I should stay off of Google but the rashes look really similar.
Really feel like I'm on the edge of a nervous breakdown. There's this horrible feeling that we've been misdiagnosed. I know the Dr's know better than me but I can't help but I can't help but worry that they're wrong Sad.

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/10/2019 09:12

Does the rash go white when you press on it?

MayorMumbum · 08/10/2019 09:16

Yes it does, that's the first thing I checked and it is itchy. It looks nothing like chicken pox but she hasn't got any in her mouth at all. Just the rest of her body so could it still be hand foot and mouth?
I have an appt to see the Dr this morning but once again I've worked myself up in to a state Sad.

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/10/2019 09:18

See what the GP says but I thought rashes with things like leukaemia weren’t true rashes so they don’t go white.
