DDs foot turning inwards after injury, quite worried

4YO DD had a bad fall at school on Thursday last week and hurt her head and hurt her foot. She was limping and her foot was very obviously twisted inwards. She has always had a slightly turned in foot but it seems much worse all of a sudden.
We took her to A&E who x rayed etc but couldn't see anything and have referred us to the fracture clinic on Monday.
She went back to school today but is now limping again and her foot is still very curved in to the point it looks clubbed (very upsetting for me to see as I suffered dreadfully with a severely clubbed foot until I was well in to my teens)
Should I wait to see the fracture clinic or do something else? I don't know if she should be back in school if she's limping everywhere but she's not complaining of any pain.

I'm just so anxious about it and really don't know what to do for the best. It looks so twisted.

How scary for you. Glad they have now picked up the fracture. Wishing you the best for the paeds unit.

Thank you all for all your kind wishes. Really needed it today.
After being assessed by two different Dr's who took a look at the blood results they have told us they think she has had a bad spell of viral infections, coupled with fracturing her foot and being newly in reception.
I'm not sure how to feel as the Gp seemed so worried and it was all a whirlwind and I'd completely convinced myself of the worst (I have severe anxiety at the best of times). I feel traumatised to be quite honest and totally terrified they're wrong. They don't even think it warrants a further blood test.
The Gp put the absolute fear of god in me and now I don't know how to think or feel. I've been inwardly hysterical all day and now I feel as if I overreacted. The Gp told me it could be cancer. Sorry for my exhausted rambling. Just thought I would update you all and thank you for being so lovely Flowers.

Bless you OP, it's totally normal to feel like you do after all that's happened. It's reasonable in my opinion to ask for a follow up test. GPs in my opinion always push for specialist assessment if they have any inkling it could be sinister.

If a follow up on NHS wasn't available I think I'd pay for a private appointment if possible (would need to beg, steal and borrow) to put my mind at rest.

Make sure you eat, and look after yourself too.

AudacityOfHope · 04/10/2019 21:17

I'm really glad that it all seems ok, although I understand you feel so in limbo still.

Remember the GP isn't really the expert.

Try to eat something, drink something, and sleep. Thanks

MayorMumbum · 04/10/2019 21:34

I was quite firm in my belief they should at least do a follow up test due to the results but they seemed so adamant that she didn't need any. So I'm not sure. I think if the glands are still there in a week I just go back to GP and cause a fuss.
I'm assuming if they were at all concerned they would do more tests and to be honest, she seems pretty well in herself.
The white blood cells as a complete count were fine, it's the lymphocyte count that is abnormal. I'm too terrified to Google any of this.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 04/10/2019 21:43

I did a quick Google for you the .other low count can be caused by excessive excersise or Injury.
So her foot. I am so sorry the GP gave you worse case you must be exhausted. I am sure she is fine she was checked over. Now go have Brew or Wine and an early night Flowers

MayorMumbum · 04/10/2019 21:50

Thanks MrsJayy. That was kind of you. I can't google as it sets my panic off. Nobody mentioned that at the hospital but then it took them a week to notice she'd fractured her foot in the first place.
Just desperately want someone to definitively tell me she's fine Sad.

OP posts:
timeforawine · 04/10/2019 21:55

Is she doing any better? I've got everything crossed she is fine and the GP was being overly cautious.

Mrsjayy · 04/10/2019 21:56

It took the fracture clinic.to see my Dds foot/toe was broken because of swelling.A&E didn't pick up on it. Anyway see how she is by next week and of course take her back .

Haggisfish · 04/10/2019 21:57

I’d take her back to original Gp and ask for follow up test for reassurance in three or four weeks.

T1gerEye · 04/10/2019 22:05

Remember - GP stands for General Practitioner. They are (generally speaking) not specialists in specific areas (dont @ me! I know some are)

They are a gateway to other services and your GP passed you on immediately to the people who ARE specialists in their field

I would take a lot of comfort from what you've been told today however I'd be tempted to ask for a follow up appointment and blood test in due course

Lindy2 · 04/10/2019 22:06

How scary OP.
I don't think there would be any parent who wasn't worried to hear their child's blood tests weren't normal.
If 2 specialist doctors have looked at the results though and they believe she is ok, then that is very good news. I'm sure if they were at all worried they would ask for more tests.
Your GP's role is to deal with day to day ailments and refer to specialist doctors for anything else. That's what they did. The mention of cancer would obviously be terrifying though.
I hope your DD starts to feel better soon and all she needs is rest and time to recover. You can always return to your GP in a few weeks time and ask for repeat blood tests, which would hopefully reassure you.

MayorMumbum · 04/10/2019 22:14

I am trying to feel reassured I really am but due to how worried the Gp seemed and then getting called by the hospital to bring her in ASAP I'd completely convinced myself it was serious and now I just feel a bit in shock.

OP posts:
T1gerEye · 04/10/2019 22:16

Yes that's very understandable. Bloody horrible shock x

MayorMumbum · 05/10/2019 11:59

Went to the GP's surgery for some advice this morning and they want to repeat the blood tests in a week as they strongly feel that more serious conditions need to be ruled out. They're going to prescribe numbing cream and do it at the surgery so it should be a less traumatic experience for her.
I'm not sure what to do about school. I'm concerned that if she catches anything else it could end up in her being really poorly as her immune system is already over reacting. Just want to give her time to get well.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 05/10/2019 12:03

I would keep her off a few dayz give her a chance to recupirate.

Mrsjayy · 05/10/2019 12:05

Days* Blush

MayorMumbum · 05/10/2019 12:18

Just don't want it to be an issue with the attendance people, she's had a lot of time off already.
I'm just really worried she'll catch something else. Hopefully the school will understand. They've been really supportive so far.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 05/10/2019 12:30

Can they give her work home ? I think if you speak to her school they will understand she has been through a lot

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/10/2019 12:38

Foot bones are tiny, and kids ones even more so. It's not unusual for a fracture to take a few days to show up, after a few days the bone ends die off so they can see them. So, I wouldn't take it that the missed fracture is evidence that they are not taking good care of her - it's just really hard to read them. I had an ankle fracture missed, as an adult, it's just tricky to see them. No harm was done, beyond it hurt less once it was diagnosed!

namechangedforthis1980 · 05/10/2019 12:47

@MayorMumbum what a stressful time you've had Sad. Hoping you get to the bottom of it soon and you can feel reassured. Anxiety is the pits , isn't it? Thanks

MayorMumbum · 05/10/2019 12:59

I was probably a bit unduly snarky about them missing her foot fracture. I know they're doing the best they can for her. Her foot seems to be on the mend at least.
I think I will keep her home for a few days to be on the safe side. I'm terrified of her catching another bug and it making the whole situation even worse.

OP posts:
Bellasblankexpression · 05/10/2019 13:06

Ah OP you poor thing. I suffer from health anxiety so I am very familiar with that 1-1000 worst case scenario lurch of panic and fear.
I hope it turns out just to be her poor foot and a viral infection - but it’s good that the GPS are running a follow up blood test. At least they are being over cautious instead of dismissive but I know how difficult it is when you’re hoping they’ll just say no everything is fine and instead they send you for further tests which equals further uncertainty, waiting and panic.
Keep talking to us. If you need to have a panicked outburst on here do it, it helps to get it out.
