Breaking news.....Great!

OP posts:
Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:27

Actaea what’s the best outcome so far?
Nothing, because of remainers trying to prevent Brexit. After Brexit happens there will be a number of good outcomes.

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 14:27

I and 52% of the voters think it’s the best thing that’s happened in decades.

How do you know? The vote was more than 3 years 3 months ago. We don't assume that General Election votes are necessarily sacrosanct for that long, and we do know that the Brexit-voting demographic is such that a sizeable proportion of Leave voters are no longer with us.

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:27

@Actaea such as?

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:29

Actaea such as?
An end to freedom of movement.

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 14:29

Like having a sovereign independent Parliament?

As a matter of interest, Actaea: suppose the next PM comes in and decides he fancies reversing the whole disaster, and prorogues Parliament to enable him or her to achieve that. Would you want someone to be able to challenge that through the courts, or would you say that the PM's decision must be final?

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:29

@Actaea ah so you’re a racist. Gotcha.

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 14:30

An end to freedom of movement.

Wait till you have to go into hospital and find that there are no staff because of the end to freedom of movement, and tell us whether you think that is an unalloyed benefit.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:32

Just shows how long remainers have been opposing the outcome of the vote. If you can’t win, just oppose the result long enough for the voters to die 🙄

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 14:33

The Supreme Court has lost all credibility. We now know Brenda Hale wanted her 15 minutes of fame and she has egg on her face

I don't even know where to begin with the sheer stupidity of that. I suggest you go away and read the judgment and tell me what, in legal terms, is wrong with it, with full reference to the legal authorities quoted.

Then tell me why the already very famous Lady Hale, who is going to retire soon, would be desperate for fame. And on what precise legal basis you contend the Supreme Court should have declined to hear a case properly put before it.

Really222 · 24/09/2019 14:34

It’s not true that “remainers opposed the result of the vote”. A remainer got us a deal, which plenty of leavers voted against.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:34

Actaea ah so you’re a racist
Nope. The population of Europe is pretty much the same racial composition as the UK.

JacquesHammer · 24/09/2019 14:35

Just shows how long remainers have been opposing the outcome of the vote

So basically you’re suggesting Remainers are at fault rather than the sheer incompetence of various Tory governments to do anything about any sort of deal?

Including an illegal prorogued Parliament. And you know object to the illegality of that being brought into the spotlight because...?

Grimbles · 24/09/2019 14:35

PARLIAMENT MUST BE SOVEREIGN!!!!!!!

highest legal authority confirms parliament is sovereign

NO,NOT LIKE THAT BLOODY REMOANERS WILL OF THE PEOPLE!!!!!!

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:36

@Grimbles you couldn’t make it up! Grin

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 14:37

@Grimbles GrinGrinGrin

Tonnerre · 24/09/2019 14:37

The problem is that this sets a precedent for the opposition to go running to the courts “to see if it’s legal” every time they disagree with something the government does

Have a look at Chris Grayling's illustrious career, especially when he was in the Ministry of Justice. Because he was an idiot who never listened to advice, he was on the wrong end of a number of court challenges. He's not the only one, of course. So the precedents are there, because it's been accepted literally for decades that the courts have to be able to rein in abuses of power by the executive. The skies haven't fallen in, have they?

Grimbles · 24/09/2019 14:43

Is someone seriously arguing that illegal actions by the Government shouldn't be challenged Hmm

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/09/2019 14:51

twitter.com/janeygodley/status/1134411255958126594?lang=en for anyone wondering why Teresa May has been so quiet lately

RedToothBrush · 24/09/2019 14:53

I'd like to know what those disagreeing with this decision think that democracy is and what do they think it should be?

TheElementsSong · 24/09/2019 14:54

I'd like to know what those disagreeing with this decision think that democracy is and what do they think it should be?

Well obviously DEMOCRACY means "vigorously wanking waving the Willy of the People."

absopugginglutely · 24/09/2019 15:38

People who think that BJ should have been allowed to break the LAW are mad. That is a dictatorship!!!

Kez200 · 24/09/2019 15:39

Im hoping for some sense as above.

I m a remainer. I dont mind leaving if they can sort something sensible out. But the Brexiteers can do one when it comes to no deal.

Kez200 · 24/09/2019 15:40

As above meaning the Ken Clarke caretaker situation

Bluntness100 · 24/09/2019 15:43

Of course the government has to abide by the law. And if they start breaking it they need to be held accountable. We are not some third world country run by a dictatorship who don't abide by laws and do as they please.

We are a democracy. Parliament is our legislative body. They are their to scrutinise the governments actions. That's how a democracy works.

Only a dictatorship works in a way where the government doesn't need to abide by the laws and isn't held accountable.

berlinbabylon · 24/09/2019 16:01

An end to freedom of movement I fail to see how this is a good thing.

I m a remainer. I dont mind leaving if they can sort something sensible out. But the Brexiteers can do one when it comes to no deal This.
