We now know Brenda Hale wanted her 15 minutes of fame Confused

Mammajay · 24/09/2019 13:58

Bluntness I hope you are right

Venger · 24/09/2019 13:59

We now know Brenda Hale wanted her 15 minutes of fame

I expect we'll see her in the next lot of BGT auditions followed by a stint on Love Island. Desperate for fame, so she is.

JacquesHammer · 24/09/2019 14:01

Venger

She’s clearly stating her interest for I’m a Celebrity by her choice of brooch.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:04

The problem is that this sets a precedent for the opposition to go running to the courts “to see if it’s legal” every time they disagree with something the government does. Suspending parliament wouldn’t have been necessary if remainers weren’t trying to interfere with Brexit.

Really222 · 24/09/2019 14:07

I have had it. 3 years of hearing the phrases remoaner / enemies of the people / traitors.

Is this kindergarten?

ChodeMcwinkle · 24/09/2019 14:08

Wtf is wrong with these leave people YOU ARE LIKE A FUCKING BROKEN RECORD.

Cinammoncake · 24/09/2019 14:08

But the government claimed the prorogation was not to do with Brexit. People can run to the courts when they want, and always have been able to, but it costs a lot of money so it's unlikely unless in exceptional cases

Really222 · 24/09/2019 14:09

Boris is not a remainer or a brexiteer, but simply a greedy opportunist. As are his henchpeople.

He isn’t trying to save us or enforce democracy. Make no mistake that he couldn’t give a shiny shite about either, us or democracy.

Venger · 24/09/2019 14:10

She’s clearly stating her interest for I’m a Celebrity by her choice of brooch.

That's the ace up her sleeve for when her star starts to fade - rock up on I'm A Celeb, eat a few grubs, and pave the way for a triumphant comeback.

The problem is that this sets a precedent for the opposition to go running to the courts “to see if it’s legal” every time they disagree with something the government does

They already had the right to do this as everything the government does must be legal and lawful, the courts have stepped in before to rule decisions as unlawful and everything that takes place in Parliament is subject to the scrutiny of the law. That is how our democracy works.

Suspending parliament wouldn’t have been necessary if remainers weren’t trying to interfere with Brexit.

Oh, so the suspension WAS a means to fudge up the Parliamentary process and push through a No Deal Brexit?

Anothertempusername · 24/09/2019 14:11

@Soola are you high?

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:14

Oh, so the suspension WAS a means to fudge up the Parliamentary process and push through a No Deal Brexit?
In my opinion yes. And I think that’s fine if it’s a necessary means to deliver what the majority of voters voted for.

Butchyrestingface · 24/09/2019 14:14

@Soola are you high?

She seems quite low to me.

💃 🥳 🍷

FilthyBiscuit · 24/09/2019 14:16

That is how our democracy works.
^
Louder for the back!

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:17

@Soola only has 2 settings: being so pro-Leave they make ridiculous comments (as above) and shoehorning MM hate into every thread they can. Very dull.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:18

That is how our democracy works
It wouldn’t have been necessary to go to court at all if remainers weren’t trying to subvert the outcome of the referendum.

Bluntness100 · 24/09/2019 14:18

The Supreme Court has lost all credibility. We now know Brenda Hale wanted her 15 minutes of fame and she has egg on her face

Bonkers statement of the year award. And a prime example of th reason why we can't have a second referendum,.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:21

Remainers only want democracy when it suits them. They want to be able to democratically oppose parliamentary decisions in court but don’t want to have to abide by the result of a democratic public vote.

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:21

@Actaea what that totally legally binding referendum that absolutely wasn’t just advisory, and had been proven a thousand times over to be the worst thing that has happened to the UK in decades? Now why on earth would remainers want to subvert the outcome of that?!

Venger · 24/09/2019 14:22

Oh, so the suspension WAS a means to fudge up the Parliamentary process and push through a No Deal Brexit?

In my opinion yes. And I think that’s fine if it’s a necessary means to deliver what the majority of voters voted for.

But that is not democracy. You think it's okay for democracy to be completely stomped all over?

This is precisely why the courts were asked to examine the decision to suspend Parliament. The government cannot simply overrule the law because they find it to be inconvenient or a hindrance. The law protects our democratic right to have a government who is acting lawfully otherwise what is to stop that government deciding we don't need to trouble ourselves with elections or scrutiny in future and we will have a one party system from now on? The courts are there to protect us all.

I definitely will say it louder for those at the back:

THIS IS HOW OUR DEMOCRACY WORKS.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:23

proven a thousand times over to be the worst thing that has happened to the UK in decades
That depends on your opinion. I and 52% of the voters think it’s the best thing that’s happened in decades.

Actaea · 24/09/2019 14:24

You think it's okay for democracy to be completely stomped all over?
You mean like how remainers are refusing to respect the outcome of a democratic vote?

MustardScreams · 24/09/2019 14:24

@Actaea what’s the best outcome so far?

Venger · 24/09/2019 14:24

It wouldn’t have been necessary to go to court at all if remainers weren’t trying to subvert the outcome of the referendum

It wouldn't have been necessary to go to court at all if Boris Johnson wasn't trying to subvert democracy by flouting the law.

There you go, fixed that for you.

Venger · 24/09/2019 14:26

You think it's okay for democracy to be completely stomped all over?

You mean like how remainers are refusing to respect the outcome of a democratic vote?

The court ruling has nothing to do with the outcome of the referendum and everything to do with the unlawful suspension of Parliament.

Funny how something is only legally binding when it's the outcome that suits you, huh?
