Questions I have about Hey Duggee

Is he a childminder? If so, I am concerned because his ratios are off, and also he is a dog.
Why are all the children animals apart from one who seems to be a lower-case 'r'?
Is Alexander Armstrong being sarcastic when he says at the end of the episode 'well that was fun, wasn't it Duggee?'
Why do I sometimes end up watching to the end of the episode even though my toddler never does? Also, where do I send off for all the badges I have thus accumulated?

I have more questions about Bing.
What are Flop and Alma supposed to be? Are they babysitters? Where are the parents? Why does Pando take his shorts off when he gets to the park in the opening credits?
Why does Pando run around in his pants so often?

Kids Tv is so confusing!

hsegfiugseskufh · 21/09/2019 20:46

I absolutely love hey duggee! I like the panda and the tiger who get married. Cant Remember their names though!

Ratbagratty · 21/09/2019 20:49

Cheese badge - I would like a chesse vault!

Wasn't there a thread a while back about how horses are standard horses in the Sylvanian world? THAT'S dark.

Fuck Shock How has this never occurred to me before?

Oddgirlout · 21/09/2019 20:52

Can you link to the horses thread?!?

Minesril · 21/09/2019 20:53

I love the one where tag finds a manky brown cushion and says it reminds him of a Duggee hug 🥰

I think way too much about happy. His mum (and now his gran) are both elephants. So he's adopted? But he's always talking about his cousin eric who's an alligator!

toteswingingit · 21/09/2019 20:54

Burning question from my OH....why can ALL the other characters speak, but all duggee can say is 'aahhh woof!'

30not13 · 21/09/2019 20:54

I've just ordered myself a duggee shirt 😳

AppropriateAdult · 21/09/2019 20:55

Nah, Flop’s not a babysitter, he’s clearly Bing’s primary caregiver. But I don’t think he’s his father; I get more of a sense of an uncle or wise old family friend who took Bing in when he was orphaned at a tragically young age. There’s always an air of restrained grief about him.

It’s all very deep.

Sneezewitch · 21/09/2019 20:57

Won’t hear a bad word about Hey Duggee (or ‘dugdug’ as DS calls it). Love the omelette episode (chickens inside watching Spanish soaps) and eagerly looking forward to the river episode. Feel like i’ve seen at least 300 episodes so that must be, what, 397?

However. What the fuck is that swivel eyed animal that occasionally pops up?

PeoplesPoet · 21/09/2019 20:57

Uh I've always hated Hey Duggee and luckily neither of mine took to it.

Mine only really pay attention to Catie's amazing machines (their absolute fave), Maddie's Do you know when it's one they haven't seen, and Sarah and Duck --- S&D is awesome and we proudly have all the DVD's and can watch them over and over and over.

SarahAndQuack · 21/09/2019 20:58

I adore Hey Duggee. I love the Grandparents' Badge. And I have a soft spot for Betty in general. And Nigel, obviously.

Sadly DD has moved on to fucking Ben and Holly, which is clearly a racist's fantasy of the Deep South circa 1960, translated onto elves and fairies. It even has distorted versions of those disgusting 60s-style beauty pageants where little girls are groomed to think it's a rule of life to be pretty and well-groomed. Also, Nanny Plum is an utter, utter tosspot.

Sneezewitch · 21/09/2019 20:59

Oh I love Happy, sitting next to his strawberry and chatting away to it. Surely he’s just from a mixed family I don’t want him to be orphaned...

hsegfiugseskufh · 21/09/2019 20:59

Oh god Catie has got to be one of the worst presenters. It all feels very forced. I like Maddie though. Ds loves do you know.

PuffHuffle5 · 21/09/2019 20:59

@LauraPalmersBodybag I thought at first they were childminders - but then they live together, so maybe adopted? Or fostered?? Or we can go with this theory:

Bing is set on one of the levels of hell. The weird sack creatures like flop are the souls of the damned who murdered children. They are doomed to spend eternity looking after incredibly annoying child-demons (bing and the other animals). The souls cannot express anger, no matter how dickish the little animals are.

Thanks @donquixotedelamancha I don’t think I’ll ever watch it in the same way again 😂

Celebelly · 21/09/2019 21:00

I felt so proud of myself the other day for spotting a plot hole (the squirrels were blowing bubbles in an episode before they got their bubbles badge, even though in the bubbles episode they didn't know how to blow bubbles). And then I wondered how this had become my life.

A-WOOF!

Celebelly · 21/09/2019 21:01

Also I watch Hey Duggee even when DD isn't here. It makes me happy. And Chew Chew the panda is my spirit animal.

SinkGirl · 21/09/2019 21:02

I made Duggee cookies for the twins birthday - the Roly ones were the best 😂

Sneezewitch · 21/09/2019 21:03

You know what with Bing though, I think the smaller caregivers right the power imbalance that toddlers have to deal with-once you remove the possibility of physical force (which is always a threat, however kind the big person is) the trust relationship is allowed to shine

(If I wasn’t twice the size of DS and willing to use mild force he’d have thrown himself into traffic/a lake/provoked a Rottweiler but perhaps I should have NEGOTIATED)

Celebelly · 21/09/2019 21:03

@SinkGirl Those are AMAZING. I love the little Betty one in the background too.

drspouse · 21/09/2019 21:04

the Tadpole Badge when they are all teenagers is brilliant.
That's my favourite bit!

Squirrels is actually a real Scout section - pre Beavers, NI only.

georgialondon · 21/09/2019 21:04

@AppropriateAdult there's a Bing bunny book where he buys something for his mummy. Which makes it even more confusing. Where the hell is she.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 21/09/2019 21:05

@strawberry2017
I cannot answer all of your questions, however as the parent of a child who is determined to be naked as much as possible... Pando is either normal or equally as weird as my kid.

I hate Bing. Flop never shouts at him even when he has deliberately done exactly what he was told not to do.. makes me feel like a bad parent

LisaSimpsonsbff · 21/09/2019 21:05

@SinkGirl those are brilliant! You definitely get your Duggee-themed-cookie badge!

The Hey Duggee Twitter feed says he's adopted.
My DS (who is adopted) spotted that he was, aged about 4. We like that they have him.
