Sandwich conflict

Chocolatehat · 08/09/2019 20:32

Please settle an argument. My DH thinks that only one slice of bread should be buttered when making a sandwich. I think that it is wrong because fillings fall out and the sandwich is dry.

Two sides!!

LiveRightNow · 08/09/2019 20:35

What nonsense is this?! 2 slices buttered every time!

Leapyearlover · 08/09/2019 20:36

My husband refuses any butter at all. But he is wrong of course. Both sides should be buttered.

Madness ! Butter... proper butter that is ,and on both sides.

Grambler · 08/09/2019 20:37

What planet does he come from?

Ask him how he chooses which slice of bread to butter? Is there a rule?

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 08/09/2019 20:39

Both sides but i remember being chastised a long time ago on MN for living a life of luxury because if i have a sandwich with filling such as Jam/Nutella/ Primula i spread both sides :O

DonPablo · 08/09/2019 20:39

In my house that would be called deliberate incompetence. Or laziness. Its not a fucking choice.

I'm in your camp btw

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/09/2019 20:39

i bet he cuts them in squares too!

LTB!

Letthemysterybe · 08/09/2019 20:41

Butter on both sides, or butter on one and chutney/mayo/mustard on the other. No bare bread!

Bobbiepin · 08/09/2019 20:41

I don't have butter in sandwiches but I always have some sort of chutney/mayo/hummus etc that goes on both sides.

Chewbecca · 08/09/2019 20:41

I think it should be both but Pret sandwiches are only buttered on one sides& are usually delicious so I wonder if they’ve done a special study & know something I don’t.

golddustwomen · 08/09/2019 20:43

Both sides !!
This kind of shit gives me the creeps. I don't trust people who don't butter sausage/bacon sandwiches either.

DramaAlpaca · 08/09/2019 20:43

One side! Shock

Of course it's two. Dearie me.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/09/2019 20:44

We've been arguing over this for 20 years, accusation of madness on both sides. He has managed to contaminate our son with this tomfoolery too. Both slices of bread get butter!!!

TheAlternativeTentacle · 08/09/2019 20:44

He is having you on and just doing it so that you takeover and do it properly.

Givemestrengthorgin · 08/09/2019 20:46

Ooh I have to buck the trend here and admit to only ever buttering one side! I don't know....it's just all I have ever known!

MissConductUS · 08/09/2019 20:46

Buttering the sandwich bread? Really? No mustard, mayonnaise, etc.?

Like a ham sandwich with butter?

shakes head

EmmiJay · 08/09/2019 20:48

I've heard you can drink wood also........😐

stucknoue · 08/09/2019 20:50

Depends on the sandwich, if there's mayo I don't butter at all, sometimes I put butter on one slice and mustard or horseradish on the other ...

FabLaura · 08/09/2019 20:51

One side

Napqueen1234 · 08/09/2019 20:55

This is blowing my mind. I have only ever buttered one side or seen anyone else doing the same. Surely you butter and add any toppings and then just lay a plain slice on top and cut?!

Mysterian · 08/09/2019 20:56

It's done to stop filling moisture penetrating [giggle] the bread and making it soggy. Both slices MUST be buttered.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 08/09/2019 20:57

Depends on your preference surely.

No butter if the filling is wet (mayo)

Grambler · 08/09/2019 20:57

Surely you butter and add any toppings and then just lay a plain slice on top and cut

That's assuming there is an up and a down side to the sandwich. What if you put it in a lunchbox? What happens if you turn it the wrong way up?

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/09/2019 20:58

I only ever butter one side but then I put whatever sauce/pickle etc on the other side.
