Sandwich conflict

Chocolatehat · 08/09/2019 20:32

Please settle an argument. My DH thinks that only one slice of bread should be buttered when making a sandwich. I think that it is wrong because fillings fall out and the sandwich is dry.

Buttering burger buns is not something I have thought of but I do sometimes butter hotdog buns.

@user1493494961 All down to personal preference, no right or wrong.

Now don't go bringing sense and reason in to it Grin

WindsweptEgret · 08/09/2019 21:44

How does the sauce soak into the bread if you butter burger or hotdog buns?

This is why my husband is thin and I’m fat...

He has barely a scraping of butter on one slice and I have a good coating on both 😬

AdaColeman · 08/09/2019 21:49

Proper salted butter both sides.

As an aside, grated cheese is an abomination in a sandwich, like eating sawdust, use proper slices of cheese for taste.

MissConductUS · 08/09/2019 22:01

Buttering burger buns is not something I have thought of

The insanely delicious Chick-Fil-A southern style chicken sandwich is simply a buttered bun, pickles and a fried boneless chicken breast.

Oh god I'm a one sided butterer! Sandwiches, rolls, french stick Shock

drsausage · 08/09/2019 22:23

Just jam on sultana scones here, scones are made with butter already.

Actual gasp of horror here.

sproutsandparsnips · 08/09/2019 22:25

No butter on hotdogs, burgers or bacon sandwiches as the fat will suffice. Fillings which include mayo don't require butter in my (admittedly fairly inexperienced) opinion.

Spinnaret · 08/09/2019 22:32

Oh Gods, why are so many men so idle about buttering bread. My DH is the same. It has taken me nearly 20 years to get him to grasp that I prefer to have a small amount of butter on both slices rather than a liberal quantity on one. And yes, I can tell the difference when I eat it. And no, I won't be grateful for him making me a sandwich occasionally when I do 95% of the household catering.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 08/09/2019 22:32

@sproutsandparsnips

No butter on bacon sandwiches??? Get out now!!! Wink Preposterous nonsense...

Goes off muttering to self.... at least we agree on mayo fillings and butter

KatherineJaneway · 08/09/2019 22:34

One side only. If you need more fat you add mayo etc

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 08/09/2019 22:35

Ok, so butter on both sides of a sandwich - yes, obvs.

But butter on a burger/hotdog bun Envy (Not envy, come on MN, get your emojis right...)

WindsweptEgret · 08/09/2019 22:37

Butter on bacon sandwiches? Just as is with nice fresh bread, or tomato ketchup otherwise.

teenagetantrums · 08/09/2019 22:38

My DP is a butter only one side person. I was horrified when l first found this out. Butter both sides is normal to me. So l did a Facebook poll with my friends everyone agreed with me. I can't understand butter one side.

teenagetantrums · 08/09/2019 22:39

At least we agree on no butter one on burger buns

Lowlandlucky · 08/09/2019 22:41

Well that depends, if it has just one filling then both sides need half an inch of butter but if you are adding mayo or any other sauce then you only need to put 1 inch of butter on one slice

managedmis · 08/09/2019 22:44

2 sides.

Next.

ImAShowPony · 08/09/2019 22:44

No debate. Both sides.

Titsywoo · 08/09/2019 22:45

I just do one side. I dont find it dry and it saves calories! I will try both sides tomorrow and let you all know if it tastes any different in my opinion.

Lemoncurd · 08/09/2019 22:59

Neither slice in our house!

PanamaPattie · 08/09/2019 23:21

One slice of buttered bread. Ham. Second slice of buttered bread. Butter the other side of slice two. Grated cheddar cheese. Third slice of buttered bread. You're welcome.

ABoozedMoose · 08/09/2019 23:27

It's never even crossed my mind to butter both sides.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/09/2019 08:55

@PanamaPattie yum!
