I need to get my act together - anyone else?!

MillieMoodle · 24/08/2019 10:55

I really need to get my act together - my house is a mess and needs a bloody good clean, I don't look after myself properly so always feel scruffy, I'm overweight since having 2 DC and I permanently feel stressed and like I have no control over anything.

So I am going to take back control. I would like to be an oasis of calm and serenity, preferably 2.5 stone lighter, obviously much slimmer, with decent hair, nails and eyebrows, a lovely clean house and the ability to turn down a chocolate bar once in a while. I also want to be able to wear a bikini on holiday next year without feeling quite so wobbly. It starts today!

Anyone else up for it? Grin

Love this thread! My house is in order but I need to look after myself more, since becomming a sahp I stopped having all the beauty treatments I use to have and I (and only I) really notice it.
Weve just got back from holiday and did dip into our savings alot as I was sick of watching the pennies instead of relaxing so my main goals are building that back up and taking care of me.

I have a pretty good speed cleaning routine if it helps anyone, fifteen mins per room.
Mon - bathroom, all towels into wash.
Tues - both bedrooms, beds stripped into wash.
Weds - living room and conservatory.
Thurs - kitchen
Fri - hallway, catch up with washing.
Start of a new month me and my husband deep clean each room over the weekend.

shutthedamndoor · 25/08/2019 08:01

Oh, thankyou so much for starting this thread!
I'm in the same boat. Overweight, messy house, 2 kids and a dog, husband who works away a lot... I work full time, starting a new role tomorrow and my cleaner just broke her leg Confused
I think I'm going to get one of those day planners and actually write down what I need to get done each day... otherwise I'll just keep slipping back into my usual habits.
Will be reading/posting/cheering us all on!

Yeay! Here's to slinky Christmas dresses, healthier lifestyle and a tidy house!

stayathomegardener · 25/08/2019 08:18

Is it doable though?
I have a gorgeous house but it's full of clutter. A good income but no money. All the healthy eating information but no motivation.

I don't know... I just seem to prioritise other things and housework is so boring!

Atropa · 25/08/2019 08:29

Is it too late to join? I've made a few steps already over the last few months, but am still not quite "there" yet.

Aims are losing weight (2st), changing career, finally have a tidy house, more hobby time.

What I've done so far:

  • gained experience in a different sector in preparation for a career change through volunteer work
  • started my mornings with exercise again
  • started to include more fibre in my diet and cut down on fat
  • started documenting my hobby online to keep motivated

Still to do:

  • cut portion sizes
  • cut down on drinking alcohol, increase water intake
  • have a decent tidy up
  • get prepared for retraining - organisationally and financially
SoozC · 25/08/2019 08:39

I'd like to join, please!

I've lost my baby weight now DS is 8 months, but as I was overweight to start with, I've still got a way to go! I'm doing weight watchers.

I keep meaning to implement the organised mum method for decluttering and tidying the house. But I'm also a big procrastinator, so have to really force myself to get things done.

Judy feeling generally a bit rubbish at life lately. As a teacher though, I always see September as a new start and I'm back away work in just over a week, so I'm gearing up to get organised now!! Plus working on making myself look more polished, especially as I'm back to work!

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 25/08/2019 08:58

Count me in please! Binged yesterday and ate 7 donuts, 3 cheese dunkers and bbq at night 😭 I'm a secret binge eater.

I'm not overweight but my visceral fat is really bad and I need to get fit for my new job as I'll have a fitness test for it later this year. Mentioned to dh I'm starting 5:2 fasting and he wants to join me. He's far past the obese on the bmi scale but he's been going to gym 3 times a week so I'm proud of him. Need to fet back to gym myself, get back doing c25k and 30 day shred. Healthy eating too.

House is a shit hole and building site. Fitted a cheap carpet myself yesterday just to get it looking a bit normal so proud of myself there.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 25/08/2019 08:59

Weighed myself yesterday and measured waist, hips, bust and thigh so I can keep track.

Good luck all! Want to lose my belly fat and start to love my body.

Joyfulincolour · 25/08/2019 10:29

Oh fab, lots of new people joining. Good to know we all have similar struggles: weight loss, decluttering, cleaning the house, personal grooming/looking decent and budgeting! Just a few of lifes challenges 😬

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/08/2019 10:54

Me please !
In no particular order I need to get on top of
Weight ( 3 stones needs to bugger off)
Money (too much spent on pointless stuff)
Booze (it has become pretty much a daily habit)
House (bit of a mess and have teens)

I am sure there is more but that will do to start.
We have visitors here until tuesday so this is more of a place mark but I will be back.

Zoflorabore · 25/08/2019 11:00

Place marking for later when I have proper time to write my list, warts and all.

You have all inspired me, I'm pretty low at the minute so thanks :)

Lowlandlucky · 25/08/2019 11:01

I am with you all the way MillieModdle i want to start a huge clear out and redecoration and loose 2 stone all by Mid October

hopewardrobe · 25/08/2019 11:50

Yep need to join too! I've made my own stuff to do notebook as helps me get on track and I love a list to tick. I've copied the one linked above. So left hand page I have

  • inspirational quote (looked on Pinterest)
  • Today's goal
  • Today's plan including life admin, housework tasks and miscellaneous
Right hand page I have:
  • meal plan for day including snacks and calorie count
  • exercise plan
  • water drunk ( with little boxes so I can tick each glass
  • self care - today is long bath this evening
-Anything not finished for tomorrow's list
  • Notes and reminders

I need to exercise more, lose 2 stone, eat better, be more organised, less stressed, have a tidy organised house and garden. I used The Organised Mum Method for housework lists

BloodyhellMartha · 25/08/2019 17:24

Watched a Marie Kondo video and my bedroom wardrobe and chest of drawers is beautiful! I've bagged loads of stuff for charity and am amazed at how tidy all my drawers now are.

Slow steps!

ZetaPuppis · 25/08/2019 20:17

I love a good inspirational quote. Please feel free to post any you find here Hopewardrobe

RubySlippers77 · 25/08/2019 21:21

@hopewardrobe I'm in awe of your notebook!! I'm still trying to find the energy to do anything apart from faff around on MN! The hot weather today has just about finished me off.....

Still planning for the return to school (8 days to go!!) in the hope that my motivation will miraculously have returned by then. Honestly having the DC 24/7 for over a month now has been tough, they're too young to entertain themselves for long, and when they finally go to bed I want to collapse on the sofa rather than meal planning/ prepping or doing some exercise, as I was before the hols.

@BloodyhellMartha I did tidy my wardrobe not long ago and moved out lots of the clothes that no longer fitted me, swearing that very soon I would lose some weight, get those ones down from the loft, and bin all my size 16s. It still remains an elusive dream Sad

MillieMoodle · 26/08/2019 08:46

Well yesterday didn't go quite as planned. It was so hot here and DS2 was hard work all day and then wouldn't sleep. By the time DH got home at 9.30 I was still trying to get him sleep.

Today is a new day though, so I'm planning to finish off washing the sheets I didn't get done yesterday. Also a trip out to get DS1 some new school uniform. It's really hot here again so can't imagine we'll do much more!

TreacherousPissFlap · 26/08/2019 11:04

Today I am (randomly and inexplicably) furious Hmm - this is not at all conducive to a restful and serene life.

DM is down for the weekend - our relationship is strained (on my part) and we live in a small house so we are on top of each other. If we drink one more cup of tea I may not be responsible for my actions.

DH commented that it was a nice morning for a dog walk. Logically I know this was a throwaway comment, but I feel incensed that it was some sort of dig at me not being ready (whilst realistically knowing DH isn't that subtle)

DS is being uncharacteristically mulish and that's annoying me as well.

A solitary dog walk has not helped and we're off to listen to some live music together "as a family"

At least there will be alcohol 🍺

BelindasGleeTeam · 26/08/2019 14:53

Weight loss has somewhat stagnated. It's probably just slowing down. Annoyed though.

Beds all stripped and washed and sorted. Have been through kids wardrobes and chucked put old/small stuff for charity etc.thrn repacked them all.

Now got to do own wardrobe. Ugh.

Vacced all the cobwebs out the corners AGAIN. I think the spiders are taking the piss at the moment.

BloodyhellMartha · 26/08/2019 17:39

Buying DC uniform today...depressingly expensive as ever. Hot and slightly bothered Grin

I'm summoning the energy to potter about tidying up a bit. I've filled 9 large bags of books for a charity shop. (I have a LOT of books) Tomorrow I'll drag them off there.

CanISpeakToYourManager · 26/08/2019 18:01

Jumping on for general motivation :)

hopewardrobe · 26/08/2019 18:07

@RubySlippers77 I'm pleased you like it! Today is a bit of a mixed bag. So I did a 5k run, ticked all my water boxes (3 litres), did a little of housework list, meal planned and grocery shopped, finished painting room BUT I'm stuffing my face at a BBQ now but no alcohol.
Loving my notebook. My quote for today was 'whether it's a 6 minute mile or 16 minute mile, it is still a mile'
The notebook is really helping me keep on track. It helps to see it written down especially what I'm eating

icebearforpresident · 26/08/2019 18:14

I agree with everything on your list OP but I do have a theory that no one ever lay on their death bed thinking about how they wished they had had a tidier house! My house is clean but cluttered, sitting down at the end of the day and seeing a Lego brick still on the floor doesn’t bother me however it drives DH nuts so for him I’m making more of an effort with the housework. Just for him though.

Getting my finances in order has been a big thing for me this year. I have 3 credit cards, 1 of which is interest free with debt from the other 2 transferred interest free. On the interest free card and the card with the highest debt I have less than 2 years of payments left, and the balance on the last one will be cleared within a year on a interest free balance transfer. 3 years worth of debt doesn’t sound great but believe me, its amazing given where I was a year ago.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 26/08/2019 19:27

Count me in, I am a mess.

Overweight, no exercise and eat far too much crap food.

I do get my nails done, have recently chopped my almost bum length hair off and I'm reducing my meat intake so I've started.

I really need to get a grip on my diet though, I live on crap, crisps are my downfall and I eat too many carbs.

I work too much overtime as well and need to cut down to make room for exercise but I'm worried about losing the money. Need to readjust our budget.

Howlongtillbedtime · 26/08/2019 19:34

Waves @rubyslippers Here I go again Grin

I will be here in the morning full of motivation (promise)

KickOffTheSundayShoes · 26/08/2019 19:43

Count me in.

Have a few stone to lose and need to get on top of the house/budgeting/meal plans etc. Have made some progress with the house in the past couple of weeks but still some to do. I am planning on doing some form of exercise every day's nothing huge at first, lots of walking etc but I do have cross trainer and there's loads of good youtube videos. I have some weights tii which I used to use so need to crack on.

Also, drinking more water and taking care with my appearance. I don't feel like myself (haven't done for years).
