I need to get my act together - anyone else?!

MillieMoodle · 24/08/2019 10:55

I really need to get my act together - my house is a mess and needs a bloody good clean, I don't look after myself properly so always feel scruffy, I'm overweight since having 2 DC and I permanently feel stressed and like I have no control over anything.

So I am going to take back control. I would like to be an oasis of calm and serenity, preferably 2.5 stone lighter, obviously much slimmer, with decent hair, nails and eyebrows, a lovely clean house and the ability to turn down a chocolate bar once in a while. I also want to be able to wear a bikini on holiday next year without feeling quite so wobbly. It starts today!

Anyone else up for it? Grin

Yes, we all swapped bedrooms this holiday and I need to move all stuff to the right rooms and finish painting some walls. My schedule is also going to be way fuller starting September and I too often let work take over my time and attention. So, no more work than necessary, more attentive time for the DC and activities/time to keep me energised. A healthier diet and more sports would be great but I think that'll have to come after.

Namechange3007 · 24/08/2019 15:02

Problem is messing on mumsnet is way more fun! My daughter starts secondary school in just over a month and today we have finally finished getting everything she needs! So that's one job to tick off!

Joyfulincolour · 24/08/2019 15:09

Beckyb- rammel is probably a local term for crap or junk! 🤣 I’ve got cupboards and drawers full of rammel which is mainly child related crafting crap.

PotterHead1985 · 24/08/2019 17:42

I need to lose 5 stone. Lost 4 1/2 so far.
I need to quit smoking.
I need to drink less.
I need to buy less random crap and junk food and save for my holiday in April.
I need to get on top of my Fibro.
I need to exercise more.
I need to completely de clutter and deep clean the house.

I had to leave my job in July to become my mams full time carer and I swore I'd get the house sorted!! BlushConfusedBlush

I need more me time to look after my appearance.

blacktiger · 24/08/2019 18:11

Me!! Can I join you?

I need to lose 4 stone
Declutter (which I have started)
Sort out the finances
Decorate
Move house - in just under a year!

actionpacked · 24/08/2019 18:29

I’d like to join too please! I’ll be back with my wish list of things to work on later.

LemonTreeLemon · 24/08/2019 18:50

Hi. I'd like to join too.

My main objective is to lose weight 1.5 stones.

My house is also really disorganised so I want to sort it out.

That planner that Asta linked looks good. Is there an app that does similar?

I also must stop procrastinating. I have Fridays off and should use the time to be productive. Instead I end up slobbing about watching box sets!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/08/2019 19:28

Me, me, me! Please.

I need to lose (at least) 2 stone and get fitter.

I need to stop buying so many meals at work - at the moment I’m buying both breakfast and lunch and it’s insane how it mounts up.

I need to do something about the hellhole that is my study - it’s bursting with unfiled paperwork and random crap, and it’s got to the stage where I just fling stuff in and slam the door shut.

Budgeting! I need to start budgeting again. We have money coming in but I’m not saving anything, which is a bit frightening as work situation feels precarious with disabled DD and childcare.

Joyfulincolour · 24/08/2019 19:51

Yes, I need to tackle our finances. Has anyone got any good advice or success re budgeting? I tried YNAB but couldn’t get on with it!

MillieMoodle · 24/08/2019 19:57

Ooh there's lots of us now! That's good, hopefully we can help each other with motivation!

I took the DC out on their bikes this afternoon. Unfortunately DS1 fell off his bike and cut his head open, so we've had a trip to A&E to glue it back together this afternoon. I haven't done most of the things I was hoping to get done, but at least DS1 is all in one piece.

Plans for tomorrow are cleaning the bathrooms in the morning, washing DS1s sheets and mine, a bit of dusting, then got some friends coming over in the afternoon. DH is out all day so I'm hoping to get lots done.

Like many others, I need to eat and drink less and sort the house out. Those of you who want to sort their money out might want to look at the moneysavingexpert money makeover.

BloodyhellMartha · 24/08/2019 20:01

Me. Need to lose about 5 stone. I have done a bit of decorating this summer and a bit of de-cluttering; I just need to keep going Smile. Difficult as the holidays are just about over.

Also need to get my finances under control as money seems to pour out of bank account with little to show for it. Need to sort my stress levels and work/life balance out. Need to be more Zen altogether.

flowerstar19 · 24/08/2019 20:04

Count me in too please, I would love to be an oasis of calm, instead of the stress head I have become! I would like to be a domestic goddess too ;) I am planning to start The Organised Mum Method to stay on top of the house, I downloaded the app & everything but still haven't managed to start!

diet4eva · 24/08/2019 20:09

Me too. Right now I couldn't hate myself more. Just had a bottle of white wine, a large dominos pizza and half a garlic bread. I need to loose half my body weight just to be vaguely healthy. My husband says we need to have 'a talk' later. But I did clear out 2 double floor to ceiling cupboards that were stuffed with crap today so proud of that. Seriously feel like there is no hope for me!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/08/2019 21:25

@diet4eva Clearing out two big cupboards is a fantastic achievement! You should be proud of yourself!

willieversleep · 24/08/2019 21:26

My list is too depressing

MissKatz · 24/08/2019 21:32

Omg yes! Same here. I'm stressed out, I get my hair cut once a year (not even kidding!) never get my nails done they are all chewed to bits. I'm tired and cannot for the life of me get on top of the house work. I work full time-hate my job it's so stressful but I do it because the location is convenient for DD and job opportunities are few and far between where I live. I've gained so much weight I think from eating crap to try and gain energy because I'm stressed and exhausted. Sad

longsummer · 24/08/2019 21:39

Ooh I'd love to join, even if just lurking for inspiration. Going back to work full time after DC2 in three months and have to sort out childcare, go over final renovation plans to file for council permission (or else the architects will leave me with only two sockets in the kitchen and none in the bathroom I fear) and start decluttering house so we can then pack up and move out to a small flat while we renovate. And among all that nobody cancelled the day to day crap of house chores/ DC1 homework /school/activities/ establishing DC2 on solids.... aaaarrrghh the list just never ends Shock Fitness will need to go on the back burner - don't hate me, I'm back to pre-pregnant weight but it's all wrongly distributed now somehow so my clothes still don't fit Confused

What's the organised mum method?

flowerstar19 · 24/08/2019 22:10

@longsummer It's a blog by a lady who suggests just 45 mins housework a day Mon-Fri, there's a schedule so every room gets attention, no cleaning at the weekends and apparently this can keep your house looking great. Loads of people seem to swear by it, Team TOMM on FB etc. I think it could work for us but with two young DC I think the general picking up, food prep, laundry, clearing up is never ending?! If I spent all the time I spend faffing on Mumsnet doing something constructive life would probably be much better Wink

BelindasGleeTeam · 24/08/2019 22:20

There's now an organised mum app

This summer hols is started! The house has had a big sort out. Kids room exception as they're messy and no point in the hols! Gutted study, kitchen, lounge etc. Decorated our room. Stropped some furniture to update it.

Started 16:8 and now 8lb down after 5 weeks. It's actually pretty easy. Need to up my protein and down my carbs now.

Opened a Monzo account to help my budgeting. Hoping it'll stop me spending on shite.

Next challenge is my grooming. Hair is a nest. I bite my nails and am still 2 stone overweight.

Long way to go yet!

longsummer · 24/08/2019 23:46

Thanks @flowerstar19 Smile I'll have a look at the blog. 45min/day sounds like a lot, but it's probably not, especially if it's focussed (so avoids me getting distracted Blush) ... and especially if i cut down on MN faffing too Wink

To the PPs that mention nail biting - I used to rub essential oil into cuticles to help kick the habit. Something pleasant but strong - whatever floats your boat - I like mint, pine or lavender personally. It makes the nails taste bitter + the strong smell when you bring hand up to mouth reminds you not to do it in the first place. To others you just smell nice. I kept a small bottle in the kitchen and bathroom so it was there after washing dishes, cleaning, etc. Really put me off biting nails & made cuticles soft and easy to deal with later.

longsummer · 24/08/2019 23:49

Wow @BelindasGleeTeam you are inspiring! A colleague did 16:8 and swears by it as a "slowly but surely" method - you sound like you'll get where you want with it!

ZetaPuppis · 25/08/2019 02:03

Me please!
Here’s what I want to do from next week -
Meal plan
Bake lunchbox snacks 2x a week
Complete some cpd courses
Read more, pick up phone less
Lose 2 stone by doing 16:8 and combining with a wholefood diet. Nothing processed.
Enrol on an adult swimming course
Find a yoga class
Walk lots
Follow a housework schedule so I’m not doing tonnes of cleaning and laundry every weekend
Save money

That should keep me going for a while Smile

Sleephead1 · 25/08/2019 07:03

Yes me too I have no excuse for any of it either my child is 6 and at school and I work 2 days a week so my house should be tidy! I'm starting a degree with the open university it October so really need to pull my fingers out and get organised. I need to start meal planning again, take control of finances ( so skint this month) start going to pilates again and try and get a handle on being more organised.

MillieMoodle · 25/08/2019 07:17

I'm starting today with some motivation! Today I am going to:

  • wash DS1s sheets
  • wash our sheets
  • clean downstairs toilet
  • wash cleaning cloths
  • wash bath mats
  • clean kids' bathroom
  • tidy and start cleaning our bathroom
  • tidy the mountain of crap that has accumulated at the side of my bed. It's mostly clothes and other junk and it annoys me whenever I see it.
  • hand wash 3 things that have been sitting in my bedroom for far longer than I'm going to admit to!

That'll keep me busy for a while. Will report back later on Grin
