Anything by the Levellers, The Verve Urban Hymns and The Charlatans Up to our Hips amongst many, many others Smile

RedSheep73 · 14/08/2019 20:35

Anything from James takes me straight back to university

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2019 20:43

And crowded house

Don't Speak, No Doubt. Perfect and Forgiven, Alanis Morrisette. Take me back to around 6th form era in an instant, and evoke a very bittersweet nostalgia.

SexFarmWoman · 14/08/2019 20:54

Pulp Different Class.

Actually hurts to listen to it.

Also the Spice Girls 2 Become 1!

sparklefarts · 14/08/2019 20:55

Dodgy - good enough

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2019 21:04

Dh is listening to forever young. That and everything but the girl take me back to sixth form. James and crowded house are university (I know that's probably the wrong way round).

Any 90's indie rock.

Also heard Baz lurhman "sunscreen" for the first time in about 2 decades the other day and it made me catch my breath a bit. Funny how the lyrics seem so different listening to them when you're weighted down with responsibility's and a shit relationship compared to listening to it as a carefree teenager with her whole life in front of her Sad

The Drugs Don't Work

Unfortunately personal song that doesn't just make me shed a tear in that beautifully meaningful way, it makes me proper, full on gutpunch cry.

Have left shops before when either the "like a cat in a bag" or "I'll sing in your ear again" lines play because I know I'll have a limited time before the aforementioned ugly crying begins.

Aaaaand I'm off, ugly crying and early night for me.

God music is amazing isn't it, some of it gets under our skin and stays forever.

Radiohead - Creep

Herocomplex · 14/08/2019 21:31

Someone I love is far away at the moment, and if I hear Marshmello ‘Here With Me’ I have to put my sunglasses on very quickly.
It doesn’t have to be old!

Mileysmiley · 14/08/2019 21:40

James Taylor - You've Got a Friend

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2019 21:45

I feel the same about Bruce Springsteen's Glory Days blue. It's painful to listen to.

BornInAThunderstorm · 14/08/2019 21:50

Massive Attack, teardrop

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2019 22:04

Born to runakes me cry but that's because it reminds me of my godmother who died last year.
On every street by Dore straits haunts me as the music that will be played at my dad's funeral. Hopefully a long way away.

The cars - Drive. It was on the radio when I told my mum I'd failed an important exam. She just held me and let me cry

Lobsterquadrille2 · 14/08/2019 22:17

Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now - I was about 14
James - Come Home
Erasure - A Little Respect

Lobsterquadrille2 · 14/08/2019 22:20

And a club in London in the early 90s called the Car Wash where they played the song of the same name several times a night.

ItProtectsMyHead · 14/08/2019 22:42

Funny you should mention Sit Down by James. That song came on the radio when DH and I were in the car on the way home from the fertility clinic, having just received some very good news. He was so happy and often sings along to the radio when he's in a good mood, so that's what I think of when I hear it. Very happy memories associated with that song for us Smile

MissCharleyP · 14/08/2019 22:49

Boys of Summer - Don Henley; it really evokes the end of something and the sense of loneliness.

Breathe (a little deeper) - Blameless and Farewell to Twilight- Symposium bits remind me of College and the times we’d go out and had no responsibilities and anything was possible. Sigh.

Trottersindependenttraders · 14/08/2019 22:54

Me too @bluemonkeysocks, I think Chris Evans played it the other morning. It stopped me in my tracks as I was the class of 99 (well ‘97 but it makes no odds). It made me teary and i can’t quite articulate why.

Witchinghour1 · 14/08/2019 22:55

Love the songs so far! For me:

Fall at your feet (crowded house)
Fadeout ( Radiohead)
Good Enough (Dodgy)
Coldplay (Yellow)
More than words (Extreme)

Mileysmiley · 15/08/2019 02:44

Manic Street Preachers - You Stole The Sun From My Heart

Mileysmiley · 15/08/2019 02:47

A real oldie

Aztec Camera - Somewhere In My Heart

Mileysmiley · 15/08/2019 02:51

My Dad's crush

Debbie Harry - Denis
