Mock all you want. When you’re posting whining mumsnet threads about being the victim of identity theft, I will mock right back!
I can stand next to two people in a queue and would probably find out their names before they've packed their groceries away!! How would I commit fraud against them because I know they are called Liz and Lil, for example?

ForalltheSaints · 14/08/2019 18:31

No I don't and understand for reasons of identity theft or to avoid unwanted attention anyone who does not.

I don't go to Starbucks though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/08/2019 18:42

I honestly don’t think you can steal someone’s identity with just their first name, though.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 14/08/2019 18:47

This was my favourite mid spelling of my name.

never
I try to give the name of the barrista (if I can spot it) or use my 'coffee'name.

FrenchFancie · 14/08/2019 19:26

I have a ‘coffee name’ but it backfired last weekend when DD (6) was in earshot and yelled loudly ‘why are you giving the wrong name?!?’. I doubt the barista gaf but the woman next to me in the queue gave me an odd look.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 14/08/2019 20:23

helpmeimatoad I think you're taking the mick, you seriously, honestly can't be that paranoid about giving your name to a barista? If so, you might need some help

managedmis · 14/08/2019 20:26

Mine is short adn sweet, so yes, I use my normal name

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/08/2019 20:37

I had this conversation with a friend of mine who has an unusual name. She gives the name Katie, but I think she should be more aspirational than that and go for a virtue of some sort, like Grace or Hope. I'm a bit of a coffee snob so if I found myself in the position of having to drink Starbucks I would need a name that expresses my feelings, Rue or Delores maybe. Or just go straight for Misery.

YouFellAsleep · 14/08/2019 20:44

Hahaha I never give them my real name, I only do it to embarrass my 14 yo DD Smile

Daisychainsandglitter · 14/08/2019 20:50

Not me but my friend who is from the Ukraine and has a difficult name to pronounce always uses the name Kim. I didn't realise it was so common for people to give different names.

mysteryfairy · 14/08/2019 21:07

I say Jo because I figure a 2 letter name is hard to get wrong! Still happens though.

I worked in Paris a lot though not a good french speaker. I never succeeded in coming up with any name I could pronounce in a way that led to the baristas writing what I said!

SauvignonBlanche · 14/08/2019 21:10

I’m Sue if I’m ever in Starbucks.

Blankiefan · 14/08/2019 21:12

My coffee name is Ingrid. No one ever mishears it (unlike my real name which is vowel heavy and open for misintrepretation)

BeardedMum · 14/08/2019 21:14

Arabella
