Rewind back to 2002...

Reminiscing really... what would you have been doing on this Friday night in 2002?

I have just settled down with a glass of wine and some Doritos. DS(6) watching something I don’t fully understand on Cbeebies.

Got me thinking of what I would have been doing on a summer Friday night in 2002 aged 19.

I had my own little flat, and my friends would come to mine and we would get ready for a night at the local pubs. We would probably have had our “Blue” album on, dressing up in two-tone trousers, handkerchief type halterneck tops, and patent black wedges.

Make up was super-thin “sperm” eyebrows, thick, dark lipliner with a pale lipstick on lips, and glitter eyeshadow. Hair was trendy bleached blonde with dark, dark brown dyed underneath (urghh!)

We would go out with about a fiver, and because our school and college friends worked behind the bars, we would get loads of freebies, get wasted, and still come home with change.

2002 was a great yearGrin

Friday night? Would probably be going to the cinema with DH as we would normally go out drinking on a Saturday.

In 2002 though, I was just starting fertility treatment/tests so no drinking would have been involved.

I worked for GNER back then, in a train station, dealing with angry train passengers.

ScreamingValenta · 09/08/2019 18:22

I always used to put my week's washing on on Friday evenings back in 2002.

RezCowgirl · 09/08/2019 18:28

Pulling pints behind the bar rolling my eyes at the awful kareoke.

Going to the pub after a hard week at school 🤣

cheesenpickles · 09/08/2019 18:32

Out at a seedy pool hall near my college, drinking WKD and Snakebite Black, putting pop punk of the jukebox and basically being a liability. I was underage then as well so we used to go wherever we could get served. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 09/08/2019 18:36

In 2002 I had a 7 month old baby and a 3 year old so not a lot probably.

Aged 19 on a Friday I would have come home from work, had a sleep then started getting glammed up to go clubbing in Birmingham.

S0CKS · 09/08/2019 18:38

I was 14 I would be chatting crushes up on MSN messenger keep appearing offline and back on again so I get noticed. No life worries just looking forward to a weekend off school

Singleandproud · 09/08/2019 18:39

I was 16, so going to a sports club then home to probably watch Graham Nortons show...the risqué one before he moved to BBC!

AuntieStella · 09/08/2019 18:40

In 2002 I would be summoning the strength to wrangle two pre-schoolers to bed. Then ordering my weekly treat takeaway, and hoping there was something worth watching on the telly.

Back to age 19 and l'd be titvating ready for a night in town (summer hols, so probably local pub/s)

Dandelion1993 · 09/08/2019 18:41

I was 9 🙈

It would be the day that we were allowed to stay up late with PJs on and a take away if we'd been good all week!

OhMsBeliever · 09/08/2019 18:41

I had a 3 year old and a 4 month old, so breastfeeding baby and toddler wrangling! Exciting!

Looks at my 20 and 17 year olds and wonders why they aren't so cute and small anymore! Grin

HeyMonkey · 09/08/2019 18:42

I was 18, so probably vomming up aftershock in a carpark and crying about one of the twatty 6th form boys.

FrenchyQ · 09/08/2019 18:42

I was 24 and a single parent to a 3 year old, so was probably having a quiet night in as normal!

vampirethriller · 09/08/2019 18:42

I'd have been getting ready to go out after being at work all day. I was 18. Over plucked eyebrows, frosted bronze lipstick and a bright blue bodice with boot cut jeans!

HeyMonkey · 09/08/2019 18:44

Rimmel heather shimmer?

roseenglishrose · 09/08/2019 18:44

I was a bridesmaid on this day in 2002! I've lost touch with the bride now, sadly, although I see her sister occasionally. I believe they are still happily married!

theoldtrout01876 · 09/08/2019 18:44

Getting myself into a panic about my divorce hearing scheduled for the following Tuesday.

Whatsyournameagain · 09/08/2019 18:44

Exactly the same as I do now, watching crap telly and having a couple of beers or wine with DH. The only difference is a different house and a couple of kids

Whoseagooddoggiethen · 09/08/2019 18:45

2002.... Myself and now ex husband we living with my folks to save for a house. Fridays we both went to bed watchinv a movie so tired having worked all week!!! We had no kids or stresses!!!

Fatted · 09/08/2019 18:45

I was 22. Still living with my parents. Was in a dead end temping job. Just started dating who would turn out to be DH. I probably would have been going for a night out in the pub or up town back then on a Friday.

The days I miss the most are 2005-2007 when we had our first house, loads of money and young and carefree. And 2010-2012. Before my job went to shit and then I had kids.

CraftyGin · 09/08/2019 18:46

Just back from Jamaica.

roseenglishrose · 09/08/2019 18:46

On a usual Friday eve aged 22, I would probably be drinking in the pub we worked in with my boyf and getting used to working full time (in a degree related job, pub was a second job) post degree & graduation.

lucysmam · 09/08/2019 18:50

I'd either have been pulling pints in my then local, counting down to locking/cleaning up time so I could get changed and hit the town to get pickled.

Or I'd be in the boozer already. Usually wearing something new, and with my hair done at the hairdressers for the night out. Would have done my make-up myself; I was all about the glitter back then Grin

These days; I'm contemplating being lazy and leaving the tea pots until the morning, looking at the sides that still need clearing, and considering topping up my Wine. Dd1 is showering, and dd2 has just started clearing up after tea so that's my cue to shift my arse I suppose .

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/08/2019 18:51

Dd1 was 2, so I would have been putting her to bed then playing a computer game while listening to music. It was a rock and roll lifestyle I lived back then 😁

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 09/08/2019 18:51

On this day in 2002 I was 40+2 with Dd, so I probably had my feet in a washing up bowl of cold water and was oof get this OUT of me NOW-ing every five minutes Grin
