Rewind back to 2002...

Reminiscing really... what would you have been doing on this Friday night in 2002?

I have just settled down with a glass of wine and some Doritos. DS(6) watching something I don’t fully understand on Cbeebies.

Got me thinking of what I would have been doing on a summer Friday night in 2002 aged 19.

I had my own little flat, and my friends would come to mine and we would get ready for a night at the local pubs. We would probably have had our “Blue” album on, dressing up in two-tone trousers, handkerchief type halterneck tops, and patent black wedges.

Make up was super-thin “sperm” eyebrows, thick, dark lipliner with a pale lipstick on lips, and glitter eyeshadow. Hair was trendy bleached blonde with dark, dark brown dyed underneath (urghh!)

We would go out with about a fiver, and because our school and college friends worked behind the bars, we would get loads of freebies, get wasted, and still come home with change.

2002 was a great yearGrin

I'd have been 11 and at the family fun night at the swimming with my friends. Then back to my best friend's or her back to mine for a sleepover and to play the Sims. Tomorrow I would be going to my dad's who had just started dating evil stepmother his new girlfriend.

I absolutely miss the year 2010 - living my best life young, care free, out almost every night of the week while holding down a full time job and a part time Saturday job until I got too drunk and fell pregnant then life changed

DobbyLovesSocks · 09/08/2019 18:53

In 2002 I had not long met my DH so if he wasn't at work we'd be sat in my bed sit students accommodation watching tv or DTD Blush
Now, he is cooking whilst helping DS on Fifa and I'm on Mumsnet. Rock and roll then and now lol

DobbyLovesSocks · 09/08/2019 18:54

I was 18 then btw.

Sleep deprived with a nearly 1 year old, who turns 18 next week.

I would've been out in the pub since 4, straight after work, having probably spent an hour and a half in the pub at lunchtime. Either that or slobbing at a friend's house with wine because we'd had a heavy night on Thursday. Not sure how I held down a job to be honest!

Al2O3 · 09/08/2019 18:58

In 2002, we would both have been home for 30 minutes and would be having lots of sweaty sex.

Ginderella11 · 09/08/2019 19:00

@HeyMonkey haha possibly Heather Shimmer! More likely a cheap one from the local chemistsGrin

Vividly remember a choking mist of Superdrug’s Dewberry bodyspray and Charlie Red perfume as we sang along to “All Rise”!

I was 19, and getting ready to go out with friends to the university union, before heading to my new boyfriends flat to stay the weekend. I had a drawer there, he'd make me breakfast on Saturday morning while I nursed a hangover.

Fast forward to tonight...Bloody idiot has just glued his hands together with quick drying plaster trying to patch up a wall.

BearSoFair · 09/08/2019 19:02

DS1 was 5 months old in August 2002 so my idea of a great Friday night would have just been getting some decent sleep. Would have definitely had Top of the Pops on tv and probably a takeaway in for tea.

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/08/2019 19:11

I was a single mum to five. Eldest would have been 12, youngest four. So I expect I was arguing with one or other of them about the need to go to bed and give me some peace and quiet!

Rickandportly · 09/08/2019 19:14

I was 22 and 6 months pregnant with Ds, all
I remember is being boiling hot the whole time.

Alpacathebag · 09/08/2019 19:26

August 2002 I would have been at my best friends house watching crap early 2000’s films and listening to her wittering on about n sync or similar whilst secretly texting the boy I liked. I was 13!

Sagradafamiliar · 09/08/2019 19:26

I was 16 and on a shitty apprenticeship. By September I'd had enough and moved abroad where I started all over again.

WinterRose92 · 09/08/2019 19:32

I’d have been 10 - so would have been allowed to stay up later on a Friday to watch a film with my brother and look forward to a weekend seeing family (grandparents etc) No cares in the world!
Now I’m 27, my 2 and a half year old son is asleep in bed. I’m 36 weeks pregnant so sat relaxing on the sofa with some snacks watching a documentary on Netflix - exciting!

Mammyloveswine · 09/08/2019 19:33

I would have been round at my friends getting ready to hit the bars and nightclubs that we could get served in age 15!

Used to wear a lot of corset style tops to make my boobs look bigger so I got in!

Lots of black eyeliner! Badly dyed bleach blonde hair... lipliner with just Vaseline over the top!

Drank cider before going out then Malibu and coke (no ice it waters it down!) or half a lager..,

TheVanguardSix · 09/08/2019 19:36

Oh my heavens. I was in the middle of a separation which ended in divorce. This may have been the very weekend my six-month-old DS and I moved back in with my mom and terminally ill dad. August 2002 was a really sad month. But I was and remain so in love with my DS that the love really pulled me through. I watched a lot of Netflix on disc (when you'd go online, order what films you wanted to watch that week and you'd get 3 Netflix discs in the post).

BelindasGleeTeam · 09/08/2019 19:41

Sending my now husband texts when I should've been working.

Then driving to his for the weekend. By this point on Friday night we'd be out with lots of friends drinking and then onto a cheesy club.

Bacon butties with lots of tea and Friends on the telly on Saturday morning with the hangover. Then back to bed until at least midday.

Bliss.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/08/2019 19:43

I was 22. I would've been getting stoned and playing X-box games with my then DP. We may have had some friends round too, and we'd probably order a take away when the munchies hit.

Lowlandlucky · 09/08/2019 19:46

SQN BAR followed by the N.A.A.F.I bar at least 20 voddie and cokes, 20 B&H and a kebab, bloody fantastic, wish i was back there.

Walnutwhipster · 09/08/2019 19:46

I was 30, married with a seven year old who was very much going to be our only child. (I changed my mind and DC2&3 arrived in 04&06) DH would have been at work so DS1 and I would probably have been sat watching a film with Friday night snacks. x

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 09/08/2019 19:51

I’d come home from uni with no money and no degree, was going out with a guy who I was continually cheating on and was working in a factory job I hated. Now 2003 that was a year...

HeyMonkey · 09/08/2019 19:57

Did anyone else try and look as terrible as possible in 2002?

I was in boys flared cords with slashes under the arse cheeks, a Pokemon charmander T-shirt that I'd cut the bottom off to show my awful belly ring, and bleached hair dyed neon green. I thought I was cool, what a tit.

IdblowJonSnow · 09/08/2019 20:04

I was 27 and travelling in 2002, every night was a Friday night! Probably off my face on mushrooms or dodgy spirits!

Now tho I've just had fish and chips and watching horrid Henry w kids! Grin

Bubbletrouble43 · 09/08/2019 20:16

I had a four year old in 2002, and on a Friday night in 2002 I probably would have been nervously waiting for my abusive ex to come home, wondering what mood he was in. We split in 2003. Life's been so much better since.

HeyMonkey · 09/08/2019 20:22

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal did you used to get the terrible hash that was knocking about in the 00's that would shed rocks that burned through your clothes?
