Rewind back to 2002...

Reminiscing really... what would you have been doing on this Friday night in 2002?

I have just settled down with a glass of wine and some Doritos. DS(6) watching something I don’t fully understand on Cbeebies.

Got me thinking of what I would have been doing on a summer Friday night in 2002 aged 19.

I had my own little flat, and my friends would come to mine and we would get ready for a night at the local pubs. We would probably have had our “Blue” album on, dressing up in two-tone trousers, handkerchief type halterneck tops, and patent black wedges.

Make up was super-thin “sperm” eyebrows, thick, dark lipliner with a pale lipstick on lips, and glitter eyeshadow. Hair was trendy bleached blonde with dark, dark brown dyed underneath (urghh!)

We would go out with about a fiver, and because our school and college friends worked behind the bars, we would get loads of freebies, get wasted, and still come home with change.

2002 was a great yearGrin

Hmm..working for a.Major airline in their call centre and living in Hounslow with flatmates I didn't particularly like. I would probably have been in my room on the PS2.

Was just about to find out I was pregnant.

Unfortunately this turned out to be a molar pregnancy, which then led to a gestational trophoblastic tumour and I spent most of 2003 having operations, lengthy hospital stays, brain scans, lung scans and intensive chemotherapy ....but got married at the end of 2003 a couple of weeks after my last chemo session, so...yay!

I would be curled up on the sofa with the man I loved, watching movies and drinking wine. At that point I couldn't see any wrong in him - certainly not the abusive, soul destroying narcissism that would ruin me.

That said I am sat in the sofa with DS14 watching movies and happier than I was in 2002!

Crunchymum · 09/08/2019 22:23

Was in the build up to having my heart spectacularly broken but it was unbeknown to me at this time in 2002. So I was happy, madly in love and life was good.

September 2002 was a shit show though Shock

aewwwenxt · 09/08/2019 22:33

I was two so probably spent the evening terrorising my mum and sister and shitting myself 😂
I'm now 19 and have spent the evening trying to calm a screaming month old baby, whilst cooking dinner and cleaning the flat and am now lying awake waiting for her to sleep as it's her first night in the cot.

I’d just got back from a holiday in Greece with DH. We were recovering from moving to our new house 6 weeks earlier. I got food poisoning while we were there and I was still ill a month later.

So, I was probably waiting to run to the loo again, drinking water.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 09/08/2019 22:43

This month 2002 I would have finished a shift at my summer job, then out to the pub and possibly clubbing with mates. Not long before I went off to uni.

Now, it might be pub or it might be a film on telly. With DH instead of some knobhead boyfriend!

Hadenoughofitall441 · 09/08/2019 22:45

I would have been 14, at the pub my family run waiting for my friends so I could go out on what ever adventures we felt like, usullay drinking out of date Bacardi breezers we got super cheap from the local offy. Sitting on top of the local bowls club roof singing, then realising we’ve got locked inside to park for the 15th time. Those were the days.

Tomorrow is my 17yr wedding anniversary so this date 2002 (Also a Friday!) I was putting hair in rollers, covered in fake tan and generally feeling excited 😊

Ginderella11 · 09/08/2019 23:08

So many good memories of 2002. And so many not so goodFlowers

I chose this year because it was so carefree- compared to the next 17 years which have been a bloody train wreck. If I could rewind to this year I would do things so differently,

I was 23, lived in a house share with 3 other girls was studying for my professional exams and working my ass off at my job. Friday night we would all go and get pissed at the swanky bar below the office. So Id usually be out drinking in work clothes. My idea of glad rags was jeans and a sparkly top with very pointy heeled boots.

soapona · 09/08/2019 23:28

On this day 2002 I was 26. Had my own house, thriving business, flash car but was total empty as all I did was work. I had no life! Within a few months I got a puppy and he changed my life and I started to enjoy life again. So much so that I sold my business.
