I'm going cold turkey from eating chocolate

Would anyone be willing to join me Blush? I reckon I have at least 21 days ahead of me before I'll feel on top of it.

I'm starting tomorrow as I've already binged today (large bar of Dark Milk and sharing bag of M&M's Blush). I know I need to stop and thankfully I feel ready as I'm sick of feeling bloated and tired and generally awful.

I've been lurking on a few of the other chocolate addiction threads but didn't want to hijack them and couldn't decide the best place to put this so I stuck with Chat.

I've got a fridge full of fruit and some choc syrup and options choc powder as a backup. I've just remembered there's half a bar of dark rum and raisin hiding in the house but I'm going to throw it away tonight 🤞.

I'm going to keep drinking loads of nice sugar free drinks to keep me full hopefully, but otherwise I'm going to eat normally. I'm just as addicted to buying it as eating it, so lunchtimes will be my weakness when I pop out.

It feels very indulgent to start a thread but I hope writing it down might help Blush.

I’m on day 3. Got to the point I was disgusted with myself, which takes a lot! I eat fine all day. Then I sit down in the evening and just inhale family sized chocolate options. It’s insane and I feel truly addicted. It isn’t as easy as someone saying “just stop” so I’m glad to see you describe it as an addiction too.

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 06/08/2019 15:50

I want to join!! Tomorrow for me to as I have eaten some chocolate biscuits and a galaxy caramel Blush feeling sick and disgusted with myself as usual! So would be good to have a buddy and be accountable to someone

Fuckingawful · 06/08/2019 16:03

ive done it since Saturday im fat and i think chocolate worsens my ibs

I’ll join Smile - I have some pounds to lose so stopping eating chocolate will probably help!

DianaPrinceRocks · 06/08/2019 16:58

Oh brilliant is it ok if I give you all un-mumsnetty hugs Blush. @Onatreebyariver and @Fuckingawful you are ahead of us and sticking with it - that's fantastic.

I forgot to mention that I reckon I've spent over 250 quid on chocolate so far this year ShockBlushBlush.

I'm going to 'pay' myself 2.50 a day for every day I stay off it and I've got something in mind that I'm going to treat myself to as an incentive. Not sure if it will work but I'm desperate Confused

MadisonAvenue · 06/08/2019 17:59

I’m in. I actually stopped eating it for 15 months but last Christmas I took one chocolate from a box that was passed my way and that was it. I’ve been bingeing ever since Angry
I’m on Day 2 now.

MrsMozartMkII · 06/08/2019 18:03

Day 2 here...

I know I shouldn't have it as it makes me feel really rough and causes headaches, but every now and then I have a normal sized bar and that's it, at least one bar every day for a week or so.

Crisps are also on their way out. That's after three packets yesterday Blush

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 06/08/2019 18:06

@MadisonAvenue that's exactly like me! Thought I had a handle on it so though yeah I can have one, I'm in control. Bam, full year of binging ever since Blush

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 06/08/2019 18:07

@DianaPrinceRocks that's an awesome idea! Can I be really nosey and ask what sort of thing you have in mind as your reward?

LeaderoftheAteam · 06/08/2019 18:09

Can I join from tomorrow? Like everyone else, I eat pretty well all day but my reward for parenting all day is a cup of tea and chocolate when the kids are in bed, ends up being a good few bars though and the weight is creeping on! We've got this!

Fuckingawful · 06/08/2019 18:09

i can quite easily eat a huge bar daily Shock

Onatreebyariver · 06/08/2019 18:16

My biggest problem is my husband. He buys it by the truckload (but can then quite happily ration himself and only eat a little bit)

I don't buy it but once it's in the house I just gobble it all. I've begged him to stop buying but he just says "well don't eat it". Clearly it's not that simple! I tell him to hide it but I know all his hiding places so when the kids are in bed I just find it :D

igivein · 06/08/2019 18:27

Me too. I once went on the wagon for 3 years. Then once I had some - bam!
I tend to eat ‘sharing’ packs of maltesers (plus anything else I come across). It’s really out of hand and I need to stop.
Tomorrow is day 1 ...

StrongerThanIThought76 · 06/08/2019 18:27

I'm in (please). Going on holiday at the weekend which will make not buying foreign chocolate easier but I've put on a stone in the last year after I discovered the chocolate vending machine in the snack bar in our office next door. Fizzy drinks too when I get back.

Thanks for the thread OP

FermatsTheorem · 06/08/2019 18:31

Sidles into church hall thread and sits down on wooden chair.

"Hello, my name's Fermats, and I have a chocolate problem..."

Yup, count me in for this one. I have managed to be pretty good for the last month and a half. But... Just back from (long-haul) trip, jet lagged to fuck, and absolutely craving the stuff.

I am an all-or-nothing type. Can't eat 2 or 3 squares of posh dark chocolate as a treat, it's trough a family sized bar. (And my local Tesco does not help, because it only sells Green and Black's in monster sizes).

Need to lose the weight for the sake of my health (middle aged creaky knees, heart, diabetes risk...) - and chucking hte chocolate is the only way to do it.

DianaPrinceRocks · 06/08/2019 21:25

Welcome everyone Grin am I the chair of our meeting group Blush.

I'm completely all or nothing too - it can't be in the house or I eat it ALL at once.

@Onatreebyariver that's really tough - is there any way he'd keep it in a locked drawer/box?! And I'm not joking cos that's all that would stop me...

@TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront oh it's really sad and boring and embarrassing Blush but I want to buy display thingies for my nail varnish collection (another addiction). It feels really frivolous but I would love them and at least if I'm 'saving' for them it won't feel as crazy or reckless.

This is far TMI but I won't miss going to the loo so often like I did today BlushBlushBlush

@DianaPrinceRocks Aw that's actually really sweet Smile it's a great idea

nixso29 · 06/08/2019 22:07

Can I join you all please! Going on holiday in 3 weeks so hoping with the temptation not there while I'm away it might help me. I see your family size bars of chocolate and raise you a six pack of chocolate brownies 🙄

Dangermouse80 · 06/08/2019 22:32

Just started a similar change to diet. Had diabetes in all 3 pregnancies and have a family history of diabetes type 2 so basically a ticking time bomb.
Like many posters I'm an all or nothing person. So have allowed myself three days off over the past 3 weeks. However instead of eating an entire Cadbury's share bag in a day I have allowed myself a chocolate magnum. Enough chocolate to satisfy without spiking a chocolate binge. Previously my lunch consisted of chocolate and coffee. Feel miles better already, don't give in!

Badgerstmary · 06/08/2019 22:42

I’m on day 1. Came back from 2 week All Inclusive holiday last night. Going to stand on scales in the morning. 😬 I’m also an all or none yep of person & know all of duh hiding places.

lookingatthings · 06/08/2019 22:50

Can I join?! I had a baby 5 months ago but feel I cant keep using that as an excuse: I'm a chocolate addict and it needs to stop. I'll start tomorrow too. Good luck everyone!

Goingtoexplode · 06/08/2019 23:00

I’m on holiday now but I also need this thread.

Like others it’s family size bags/bars I eat at night while watching tv. Either I’ll pop into the co op on my way home because I need something for tea and buy it then or worse I’ll ask my OH to pop in on his way home as he finishes later - that’s usually when I’ve told myself I don’t need it but end up desperately needing it later on in the night Grin

It doesn’t help when I tell him to bring me a small bar but he brings a massive one because it’s better value.

I’ve put on over two stone in a year and it’s down to all of this chocolate.

As soon as I get back on Friday that’s me done. Love the idea of paying yourself. I’d like a smart watch as have started running recently so might set that as my goal.

Schmoozer · 06/08/2019 23:03

Me too 😳
Chocolate addict

Bringmewineandcake · 06/08/2019 23:05

I’m not ready Blush
But I want to be...so I’m going to lurk here while I get a grip.

FermatsTheorem · 06/08/2019 23:10

Boredom plus vending machines at work is my downfall. For a while I went for bringing sandwiches and deliberately leaving my wallet at home so I had no money for the machines. Seems (touch wood) to have broken the mental association. But I know I could slip back really easily.
