I'm going cold turkey from eating chocolate

Would anyone be willing to join me Blush? I reckon I have at least 21 days ahead of me before I'll feel on top of it.

I'm starting tomorrow as I've already binged today (large bar of Dark Milk and sharing bag of M&M's Blush). I know I need to stop and thankfully I feel ready as I'm sick of feeling bloated and tired and generally awful.

I've been lurking on a few of the other chocolate addiction threads but didn't want to hijack them and couldn't decide the best place to put this so I stuck with Chat.

I've got a fridge full of fruit and some choc syrup and options choc powder as a backup. I've just remembered there's half a bar of dark rum and raisin hiding in the house but I'm going to throw it away tonight 🤞.

I'm going to keep drinking loads of nice sugar free drinks to keep me full hopefully, but otherwise I'm going to eat normally. I'm just as addicted to buying it as eating it, so lunchtimes will be my weakness when I pop out.

It feels very indulgent to start a thread but I hope writing it down might help Blush.

I'm a bit late to this party but I think I should join too. Chocolate is my weakness and I always justify it by saying that I don't drink or smoke, so chocolate is my only vice. But I eat too much. Not helped by the fact that, whilst bars are getting smaller, bags are getting bigger. A sharing bag of buttons feels like a normal size for one person now. My DH came back from the shop with a normal sized chocolate bar recently and I almost divorced him!

But I'm feeling fat and bloated. It's a cliche but I feel like I can't get away with so much since turning 40. Weight seems to go on much easier than it used to.

So I haven't read all of the thread yet but I'll go back and do that now 😁

StudentHelp · 18/08/2019 00:16

Would also like to quit chocolate but not sure I can - I’ll try and cut down as there’s nothing that tastes as good! Pathetic, I know

gower4 · 18/08/2019 09:33

I need to join as well. Day 1 for me Blush

Just popped in to say hi. Day 12 for me and still going strong.
Great to see some new people joining in - welcome everyone!
student go for it, ditch it completely. It sounds stupid, but it’s harder to just cut down. After the first couple of days the cravings stop and it becomes so much easier. Cold turkey is the only way ...

MadisonAvenue · 18/08/2019 10:50

Thank you MrsMozart and Diana Flowers

Welcome to the new people! I hope you find this thread as supportive as I do. It really does help to have this to check into with other people who are going through the same.

I haven't had Starburst for years either, I always prefer the green ones Grin. I bought some Parma Violets from Asda the other day though!

I'm now on Day 14.

MrsMozartMkII · 18/08/2019 11:16

Welcome one and all! We will beat this.

Day 14 here. Food shopping later. Am tired and have a thick head. Coke and chocolate would be my usual go to, which would be fine if it didn't effectively make it open season! Send me be strong thoughts please...

DianaPrinceRocks · 18/08/2019 22:21

Ooo welcome everyone! Hope everyone starting today has made it!

And for anyone not sure, just try it for a week. You’ve nothing to lose and everything to gain and worst case scenario at least you’ve experimented.

Well done Bringme on the fruit - keep going! If you like sweet fruit, my go-to’s are strawberries (although I do sprinkle Splenda on them), golden Kiwis and donut peaches.

Student I too think you should try cold turkey - if you’re in any way like me a little bit will make it harder and keep the cravings alive. I honestly don’t think about how nice it tastes now.

Igivein well done! I must be on day 12 too Grin.

Madison and MrsMozart I just realised you are quitting twins! Oh MrsMozart I’m sorry I never saw your post today. Sending Thanks hope you hung in there? Also would Coke on it’s own help at all? - maybe it could feel like a treat by itself, but only if it wouldn’t trigger anything. Or maybe with a plain biscuit? I know it’s not v healthy but I had a fig roll biscuit today and it was delicious Grin.

Still doing good and not missing it yay!

MadisonAvenue · 19/08/2019 13:16

Diana I'm well stocked up on peaches here!

MrsM you're doing brilliantly!

We popped into Birmingham yesterday afternoon, just to get out of the house for an hour or two, and wound up in Tim Horton's. I had my usual box of 10 Timbits, the mini donuts that they sell, but asked for no chocolate ones. The server looked surprised and said ''no chocolate??!?" so I suppose that they don't get many people saying that 😂

DianaPrinceRocks · 19/08/2019 22:20

Madison that's brilliant Grin and well done Star! I'm betting the non choccie ones were yummy too.

I think I'm on Day 13 today woohoo! No cravings or temptation and I'm feeling great.

Forgot to mention I'm sleeping well again now and no hyper feelings or anything. Not missing it at all (yet) and I actually think I'm getting more energy (said quietly don't want to jinx it).

DianaPrinceRocks · 20/08/2019 21:39

Oooo just me so far today Sad.

Day 14 but feeling a bit bleurgh cos my period has arrived. Definitely feel a craving for comfort food all day, but not necessarily chocolate which is a relief. Had a biscuit and a protein bar and that was enough.

Feeling tired isn't helping either but I'm busy so didn't have time to wallow. Can't believe I've made 2 weeks! Half way to breaking the habit!

Bringmewineandcake · 20/08/2019 23:34

Day 4 done Halo
I'm starving but have not felt the need to cheat at all. Its ridiculous, I've eaten constantly for weeks and suddenly my will power is back and I've not even been tempted to eat treats.
I have however had to restock the fruit bowl Grin

GeriAtric · 21/08/2019 07:44

I was on day two yesterday but then went into Hotel Chocolat with the dc and absentmindedly accepted a sample 🙄 I haven't been stuffing my face in the evening though.

What do you all find to treat yourselves with? I'm finding a bowlful of pomegranate seeds satisfies my need for nibbling and my crave for sweetness.

MrsMozartMkII · 21/08/2019 09:03

You're doing so well DianaPrinceRocks!

Don't fret GeriAtric, you have the general intent which is the aim of the game as it were.

I'm still at it. I must admit, this thread and the support of y'all really is helping. I'm usually good at short sprint things, so this keeping it up and consistently saying No to myself (or rather saying "Yes, of course I can, but if I do it'll spoil my run" - and in my case will make me ill), is bloody good. Thank you Smile

MadisonAvenue · 21/08/2019 19:32

Geri don't worry about a little slip you can do this!

MrsMozart and Diana you're both doing really well!

Day 17 almost done and dusted here. There's a load of chocolate in the fridge due to this afternoon's Tesco delivery but I can honestly say that I'm not tempted! Not sure why I ordered so much actually, my older son is in Paris with his girlfriend and he comes back just as the younger one leaves for Leeds Festival.

DianaPrinceRocks · 21/08/2019 21:58

Oh BringMe well done that’s brilliant!

Geri a little sample doesn’t have to count if you don’t want it to Wink. At least it didn’t trigger you!

MrsMozart you’re doing so well and this thread is making all the difference to me too. It’s something around sharing it with other people that’s keeping me focused.

Madison it’s so fab that you’re not tempted! You deserve a StarHalo.

Good day for me again and I had great news on the scales - 3lbs loss this week and I’ve literally changed nothing else. I can’t believe it really - I’m overweight but it’s only one of the reasons I’m doing this - I just wish I’d started ages ago!

Keep going everyone we’re winning!

OP posts:
SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/08/2019 07:10

A bit late, but can I join, please?

I’m another person who swan dives into the chocolate if I have just a little. I’ve given it up in the past and it only takes a few days before I stop craving it, and I feel soooo much better.

Day 1!

GeriAtric · 22/08/2019 08:19

Good luck with day 1 Something nasty 😁

I'm currently on day 4 (I've chosen to disregard the sample I absentmindedly are 😂). I still feel restless in the evening and think about chocolate a lot (that sounds really pathetic!) But yesterday I bought bars of chocolate for my husband and kids and didn't get myself anything so 🤞🤞

DianaPrince 3lbs is amazing. Just from giving up chocolate? I don't weigh myself but am hoping that the clothes that have been slowly getting tighter will start feeling more comfortable.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/08/2019 08:23

Thank you, Geri! My biggest challenge is going to be my birthday this weekend. Oh, and the biscuit tin at work. People are constantly stuffing it with chocolatey goodness from the M&S up the road.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/08/2019 08:25

And well done for skipping the chocolate while buying for everyone else! In the past, I’ve found telling myself that this isn’t the last bit of chocolate left in the world, and I there’ll be plenty left for me when I really want it, helps me resist.

GeriAtric · 22/08/2019 08:30

Hopefully that will still be the case after Brexit SomethingNasty 😂 Maybe chocolate should be on my stocking up list...just in case!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/08/2019 08:33

Eek! I hadn’t thought of that. I need to know that the Aldi white chocolate truffles with white chocolate flakes are not lost to me forever!

MrsMozartMkII · 22/08/2019 08:37

DianaPrinceRocks Excellent lots lass!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool Welcome!

I'm overhauling a lot of things in my life. I know I'll be grand at it all short-term, it's the longer term that I'll struggle with. I may hold onto this thread for more than just chocolate 🤗😳👍

I'm joining too if that's ok! I've been lurking and am actually on day 4. I'm trying to reduce sugar totally so also not eating biscuits! Had a small piece of cake yesterday (not chocolate!) as my 10 year old made it and I didn't have the heart to say no!

My downfall like others is the evening when I'll often have a bit of chocolate but I'm finding since turning 40 my apple shape is very unforgiving and although I'm not overweight my stomach is definitely bigger than it should be! I've noticed already I'm not bloating as much so fingers crossed this will help!

GeriAtric · 22/08/2019 13:53

What happens at 40? I've noticed it since turning 40 too. I do far more exercise than I ever did now but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I was always one of those people who could eat whatever the hell I wanted without putting weight on so having to actually think about what I eat is all new to me.
