I'm going cold turkey from eating chocolate

Would anyone be willing to join me Blush? I reckon I have at least 21 days ahead of me before I'll feel on top of it.

I'm starting tomorrow as I've already binged today (large bar of Dark Milk and sharing bag of M&M's Blush). I know I need to stop and thankfully I feel ready as I'm sick of feeling bloated and tired and generally awful.

I've been lurking on a few of the other chocolate addiction threads but didn't want to hijack them and couldn't decide the best place to put this so I stuck with Chat.

I've got a fridge full of fruit and some choc syrup and options choc powder as a backup. I've just remembered there's half a bar of dark rum and raisin hiding in the house but I'm going to throw it away tonight 🤞.

I'm going to keep drinking loads of nice sugar free drinks to keep me full hopefully, but otherwise I'm going to eat normally. I'm just as addicted to buying it as eating it, so lunchtimes will be my weakness when I pop out.

It feels very indulgent to start a thread but I hope writing it down might help Blush.

@GeriAtric this is exactly me, always been skinny and scrawny but now filling out!! I don't like it!

igivein · 22/08/2019 19:12

Hi Diana (and everyone!)

Glad you’re all doing so well. I haven’t been around, as we’re having a few days away at the moment.
Still going well. I’m up to day 16 I think now - so well over half way to a habit!

Chickenwing · 22/08/2019 19:15

I tried to quit chocolate for lent and actually cried about 5 days in when I felt sad and wanted it. I also started eating other rubbish in its place. I now just try and limit the amount of chocolate I eat as I cant give it up completely Sad

Oh woohoo lots of activity today!

Welcome SomethingNasty good luck! I am finding now that I’m enjoying non-choccie cakes and biscuits just as much in case it’s an option. But I don’t think anyone would wag their finger at you on your birthday as long as you can stick to one day Wink.

Geri that loss just shows how much I was binging- I actually eat quite healthily otherwise lately, but chocolate has always been my downfall, I used to easily put away 4 sharing bags on my bad daysBlush.
I was very restless for the first few days too, but that completely passed and I’m feeling and sleeping normally again now.

MrsMozart this is such a great way to start an overhaul and I’ll be here - this has to be long term for me too - I want to be like the PP who did it 9 years ago!

Welcome Bagel and well done! I’m in awe of all of you that are quitting sugar completely!

Igivein woohoo you’re doing great well doneStar!

Aw Chickenwing I felt that sadness before I quit - it was like I had to prepare to say goodbye to a friend (I know how crazy that sounds). If you’re able to limit and it’s not doing any damage then that sounds good to me - for me I just can’t stop once I startSad.

Another day survived. Had some stress today and I suspect I might have fallen if there was any in the house, but there wasn’t phew and I wasn’t tempted to buy any. Can’t wait for period to be over it’s really not helping my sugar cravingsHmm.

Day 6 over but I've been quite grumpy today. I was tempted but didn't cave in.
Well done to everyone else too...we can do this!

MadisonAvenue · 23/08/2019 12:11

Day 19 here. I'm a little stressed today because my 19 year old has just left to go to Leeds Festival. He's driving there but hasn't driven that far before and it's also his first time on the motorway. So yep, I'm stressed.

MrsMozart I like the idea of keeping this thread going for long-term support (and chat).

MrsMozartMkII · 23/08/2019 18:45

MadisonAvenue hang on in there lass. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Hellooooo to all. A brief one today as I tired. DD's birthday so lots of people and dogs. Absobloodylutely brilliant to see them, but knackering and lots of food. No chocolate though! The run, thankfully, continues.

Hold on folks.

DianaPrinceRocks · 23/08/2019 21:15

Well done BringMe in hanging in on a grumpy day!

Madison hope the stress has passed and that your DS has let you know he's arrived in one piece.

MrsMozart well done on a choccie free party! I bet it was fab - hope you enjoyed it.

Quick one from me today too but all good again - still eating more than I should cos of hormones but I don't mind once it's not choccie - one goal at a time is plenty. Not sure what day I'm up to now - think it's 17 woohoo!

MadisonAvenue ugh, the worries that come with having older children. I'm dreading mine being old enough to be out and about, drinking and driving around (not at the same time, obviously!).

DianaPrince Day 17! It's like when you have a baby, first you count in days, then weeks and before you know it you'll be into months without chocolate 😁

MrsMozart I hope Dad's birthday goes well. You'll be too busy to even think about eating chocolate!

BringMeWine well done resisting on a grumpy day. That's a challenge! I'm just a bit behind you - day 6 for me today.

Well done to everyone else and I hope you all enjoy the lovely weather today (or stay inside hiding from the heat, whatever your preference is!).

GeriAtric · 24/08/2019 13:06

MrsMozart my phone thought it knew better than me what I wanted to write. I hope you enjoy dd 's birthday, not your dad's!

MrsMozartMkII · 24/08/2019 13:35

GeriAtric it was a lovely day thank you Grin

laughingnow · 24/08/2019 13:51

Not buying it really helps but I’ve also had to stop buying posh biscuits and yummy desserts. It is easier since allowing myself the odd small KitKat (or 2) when the urge arises.. Definitely feel better.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/08/2019 14:41

Well done, resistors! MadisonAvenue day 19!!

Only day 3 for me but I’m feeling calm. I just hope no one gives me chocs for my birthday..

NoNameIdeas · 24/08/2019 18:38

Can I join...starting tomorrow as I had some today 😐

Onatreebyariver · 24/08/2019 18:44

Up to 21 days here. It’s only actual chocolate I’ve given up. Like bars of dairy milk or chocolate buttons. Still been eating choc ice cream or choc cake etc but my major downfall was troughing family size bars of galaxy etc in the evening. So giving up pure chocolate was a huge step.

However today I’m finally ready to give up all chocolate. So I’m from today including choc chip cookies/choc ice cream/choc flavoured oat bars etc in my list. Today was day one.

MrsMozartMkII · 24/08/2019 19:09

Onatreebyariver go for it! Rooting for you.

After today I need to also give up sugar and too many simple carbs. Body is showing me in every way it can that it's not happy.

MrsMozartMkII · 24/08/2019 19:17

Day 20 today for no chocolate.

As of tomorrow I'll also note the days of no crap.

GeriAtric · 25/08/2019 09:07

Welcome NoNameIdeas. Good luck on your first day 😁

MrsMozartMkII · 25/08/2019 10:42

NoNameIdeas Good luck today! You'll do grand.

And hang on in there everyone else. Another day, another step closer.

Gottoloveabagel · 25/08/2019 21:42

Are people not nibbling anything at night? I'd usually be eating some chocolate now but am not! Feel I need something but don't know what!!

Gottoloveabagel · 25/08/2019 23:16

I've just had a cold potato which I cooked ready to make potato salad tomorrow. It wasn't quite the same...

MrsMozartMkII · 26/08/2019 08:08

I'm not an evening nibbler as a rule.

If I do want something I tend to suck a Polo to death. It's not grand but gives me something.

You could try frozen fruit - grapes and pomegranate seeds are nice and good for nibbling on.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 26/08/2019 14:36

I got through my birthday with minimal damage. Some ice cream at my birthday lunch and a few chocolate biscotti before bed (am determinedly not counting them as chocolate, and besides, they were a present).

I like this chocolate tea as a choc replacement in the evenings. It’s lovely, and surprisingly chocolatey, provided you let it infuse for long enough.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 26/08/2019 14:39

Sorry - link doesn’t work for some reason. Anyway, it’s Choco Tea by Yogi Tea - Holland & Barrett sell it.

DianaPrinceRocks · 26/08/2019 21:22

Sorry I've been awol - just been very busy but no choccie in sight yay!

All of you are doing brilliantly Star!

Something that's amazing that you resisted - and Happy Birthday CakeThanks!

I would have thought choccie tea would be disgusting but I'm tempted to try it now Wink.

Hormone-week is nearly over so my only problem now is how to stop munching on non chocolate sugary stuff Blush.
