Is this the most overused term on MN at the moment?

'You seem to be quite controlling' ...

I've seen it on 4 threads in the last 15 minutes of being on here. Someone says they're not happy about something and they're controlling. Someone says they'd like to change plans and they're controlling. Want to have some input in your child's life? You're controlling. Changed your mind? Controlling.

It's getting rather trying! Grin Apologies if this makes me sound controlling but for the love of god.

But a lot of Mumsnetters are quite controlling Wink People on here get het up about all kinds of stuff I could never bring myself to give a shit about.

Patroclus · 03/08/2019 18:17

Im just glad 'entitled' dissapeared finally. Didnt even make sense

StealthPolarBear · 03/08/2019 18:18

Has it replaced snowflake?

Spudlet · 03/08/2019 18:18

I mean, I hate to say it, but you do sound somewhat....

Keen to take charge of things.

Is that better? Grin

It is definitely thingy of the moment though - it’ll wear off in the end and be replaced by the next thing soon enough!

ShirleyPhallus · 03/08/2019 18:20

“Disingenuous” gets a lot of air time I think

midsomermurderess · 03/08/2019 18:20

It'll give 'narcissist' and 'gaslighting' a wee breather.

ShirleyPhallus · 03/08/2019 18:23

Oh and “cool wives” which is really fucking insulting tbh

NoBaggyPants · 03/08/2019 18:26

Narcissist. Difficult MIL or ex? Yep, they'll are a narcissist/ narc/ NPD.

Red flag is overused too. Takes away from genuine cases of abuse when it's banded around for anything and everything.

Hihellohi · 03/08/2019 18:27

“Food of the gods” aaargh it makes my skin crawl!

NoBaggyPants · 03/08/2019 18:27

*bandied

SerfNTerf · 03/08/2019 18:28

Not to mention "resilience" being suggested as a solution whenever someone feels overwhelmed by a problem....

BenWillbondsPants · 03/08/2019 18:29

Yep, gaslighting, narcissist and entitled are still kicking around but we seem to have a new frontrunner at the moment.

@YouWhoNeverArrived I don't really give a shit, it just fucking irritates me in an 'oh god, here we go again' way. Grin

Buddyelf · 03/08/2019 18:32

Ooh ‘visceral’. I see that used all the time on MN - ‘I’ve never had such a visceral reaction to a stranger.’
Never heard anyone in real life use that world

eddiemairswife · 03/08/2019 18:33

'triggering' is used an awful lot.

GrapefruitIsGross · 03/08/2019 18:34

Maybe you need a spa day, OP?

YANBU.

AlexaAmbidextra · 03/08/2019 18:36

Nuance/nuanced is v popular too.

Rainonmyguitar · 03/08/2019 18:36

'You seem to be quite controlling'

'You seem to be quite jealous'

'You seem like hard work'

'You don't seem to like your SIL/MIL/DH/DC'

All overused on MN.

ohdearwhatdoido · 03/08/2019 18:39

@BenWillbondsPants I think you need to stop worrying about overused MN terms and just^ start getting your ducks in a row^ Grin

GrapefruitIsGross · 03/08/2019 18:41

'You seem like hard work'

In fairness, anyone saying this to an OP on AIBU very often has a point

LaMarschallin · 03/08/2019 18:42

cool wives

I haven't come across that one.
Is it like "yummy mummies" or something?

PapaShango · 03/08/2019 18:45

Raging seems to be another one. There’s always someone raging on a thread!

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2019 18:46

Thank fuck we don't see 'toxic' as much as we used to.

Thegracefuloctopus · 03/08/2019 18:49

LTB
Not everyone runs at the first sign of difficulty and some just want some advice on what to Do not how to leave. And the process of leaving always starts with a bloody spa day

missmouse101 · 03/08/2019 18:51

Obsessed with is overused and utterly irritating. You actually meant to say quite fond of.

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/08/2019 18:54

It’s been replaced by narc Worra. Everyone’s a psychiatrist or read an article online
