Is this the most overused term on MN at the moment?

'You seem to be quite controlling' ...

I've seen it on 4 threads in the last 15 minutes of being on here. Someone says they're not happy about something and they're controlling. Someone says they'd like to change plans and they're controlling. Want to have some input in your child's life? You're controlling. Changed your mind? Controlling.

It's getting rather trying! Grin Apologies if this makes me sound controlling but for the love of god.

"I feel your pain"

It's all over the place, often to offer a comment on mundane irritations.

AlexaAmbidextra · 04/08/2019 02:00

Talking of vomit, nobody just vomits. They all projectile vomit which in actuality isn’t that common, unless you happen to be a baby with pyloric stenosis. Hmm

AtSea1979 · 04/08/2019 02:13

Just go NC (as though this is normal)

Not heard Cool wives before, mustn’t be my kinda thread!

TSSDNCOP · 04/08/2019 02:42

“So, .........., all good.” As the intro to a thread, typically where a MIL is about to get a bashing.

“I was sat”

Cool wives - nope, typically just women with a different view to your own.

Woke

TSSDNCOP · 04/08/2019 02:43

Oh and “hobby”

In no way will saying your DH plays golf identify you.

motherheroic · 04/08/2019 07:41

'Can you move somewhere cheaper'. As if moving and finding a deposit/6 weeks rent doesn't cost a large amount of money.

Karwomannghia · 04/08/2019 07:47

Robust. You were robustly corrected- ie everyone took great delight in telling you how stupid you are and don’t you dare complain about it.

FookMeFookYou · 04/08/2019 07:53

I described a recent employment related scenario that didn't come to fruition and I was called bossy and controlling because I made a suggestion whilst trying to arrange a meeting.

Honestly I laughed but some ppl CRAVE drama and really just need to get a grip

NoSauce · 04/08/2019 08:18

“ Op you’re getting a hard time here “

Yes because OP is ordinarily a massive twat.

NoSauce · 04/08/2019 08:21

The women who’ve just given birth are always losing loads of blood, their nipples are shredded, they’ve slept 3 seconds in the last 3 days, they can’t possibly see any visitors for at least a year.

StealthPolarBear · 04/08/2019 08:27

Oh yes the people with mild ocd.
And I'm pleased "give your head a wobble" has died a death

Nicolastuffedone · 04/08/2019 10:11

Counselling. Whatever happens, find a counsellor and process it.

longwayoff · 04/08/2019 10:13

Brexit.

LaMarschallin · 04/08/2019 10:17

And I'm pleased "give your head a wobble" has died a death

Has it?
I'm sure I keep seeing it (maybe I should claim I have "low level PTSD" and "flashbacks").

Hate it. One of those glib parroted phrases like "ODFOD" and "U okay, hun?".

NiLunNiLautre · 04/08/2019 10:24

Moist. Grrr. Perfectly normal word, but so many MNers have jumped on a bizarre bandwagon of feeling a need to announce their hatred of it.

Just a few minutes ago, I was reading a thread where a poster came on merely to post “I hate the word moist” (moist had appeared in the title). Who gives a flying fuck? The OP was looking for advice, FFS.

LowbrowVictoriana · 04/08/2019 11:20

The very original, witty posters who go on to every baby name thread to suggest “Balonz” Hmm

LowbrowVictoriana · 04/08/2019 11:24

Not forgetting: “You don’t have a MIL problem, you have a DH problem”.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/08/2019 11:24

Narcissist

We all have slight narcissistic traits some more than others. Very very very few people are truly narcissistic

Lots of people are just selfish and mean

BenWillbondsPants · 04/08/2019 11:29

'Are you sure they don't have dementia?'

When anyone over the age of 50 says/does something unexpected.

OP posts:
sonjadog · 04/08/2019 11:31

Yes, Balonz. Might have been amusing once but now just really tired. Same with anything with -zilla at the end. Although that seems less common now.

Hellbentwellwent · 04/08/2019 11:37

Being agog and aghast.... I’ve never heard anyone say either of those things out loud in any context ever, and if I did I’d think they were a twat. In fact, seeing people writing it makes me think they’re a twat too....

OMGshefoundmeout · 04/08/2019 11:38

I’ve used the controlling phrase. It’s more tactful than saying ‘you sound like a bossy cow who needs to mind her own business’.

BenWillbondsPants · 04/08/2019 11:44

I think I've probably used it myself in days gone by too OMG, but I would even piss myself off using it now. Grin

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/08/2019 11:46

In no way will saying your DH plays golf identify you

It’s nearly always cycling. I could never love a committed cyclist.

mrsSOAK · 04/08/2019 11:49

“Namechanged as this is outing” or “outing” in general.
On an international forum with over 4.3million unique visitors a month it’s unlikely that anyone will recognise you because your husband cycles, plays golf, climbs or that your sister drives a bmw or you work in social care...
