Is this the most overused term on MN at the moment?

'You seem to be quite controlling' ...

I've seen it on 4 threads in the last 15 minutes of being on here. Someone says they're not happy about something and they're controlling. Someone says they'd like to change plans and they're controlling. Want to have some input in your child's life? You're controlling. Changed your mind? Controlling.

It's getting rather trying! Grin Apologies if this makes me sound controlling but for the love of god.

Not as far as I can tell but who knows! Grin

'Not a hill I'm willing to die on' is an expression I've seen a lot on here lately...where did it come from?!

No dissing Balonz by the way, I won't have it Wink

schnubbins · 04/08/2019 21:27

Narcissist:
seems like everyone has one at home

Anxiety : is nobody just worried anymore

judgey : having an opinion someone does not lik

PeoniesarePink · 04/08/2019 21:31

It's the use of "triggering" that winds me up like a clock.

Who are these people Shock

There must be a MN cult called "The Triggers".

SavagelyGardening · 04/08/2019 22:27

I'm raging on your behalf

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/08/2019 22:32

Not a hill I'm willing to die on

Ah now I like that one Smile

First read it on here and now apply it to real life. It’s like “don’t sweat the small stuff” which is a horrible expression but makes sense in principle.

mrsmuddlepies · 04/08/2019 22:56

'Sobbing', not crying or upset but sobbing, with explanations about how proper the sobbing was.

MrsReader · 04/08/2019 23:00

"Naice" ugh

Csleeptime · 04/08/2019 23:04

Starting to think died a death has to go on the list after this thread.

Angrybird123 · 04/08/2019 23:21

Is it wrong that im crying with laughter at this... Especially the 'trouser / boot, / tight' thing?

On a serious note I really dislike the 'controlling' thing and 'emotionally abusive'.. Its allowed to disagree with your significant other and not go along with what they want to do. It's allowed (or should be) that adults can have a disagreement and go to bed in a huff without it breing abuse. Misuse of that word inevitably undermines it when it IS valid.. Ditto with 'having anxiety' on every second thread when the op has been told she's overreacting. Even they do 'have anxiety' it's still an overreaction and it might be helpful that they are told so.

Rant over
Teeth itching

And wrong time of year, but at Christmas people wanting to start some sort of Christmas tradition. Surely quirky things families do sort of evolve from within the family. Starting from cold cos you read someone else does it seems weird.

ssd · 04/08/2019 23:25

I was going to mention anxiety but I've been beaten to it. See also depression.

Honeyroar · 04/08/2019 23:32

Nobody is ever angry on here, they’re fuming, furious or incandescent with rage! Nobody giggles a bit, they all roll on the floor or spit tea over things!

Bagadverts · 04/08/2019 23:52

Where did “naice” come from and what does it mean? Is it something to do with accent/pronunciation? (I can’t imagine how I would pronounce it.)

ZaZathecat · 05/08/2019 00:59

Naive is nice in a posh accent.

ZaZathecat · 05/08/2019 00:59

*naice

BenWillbondsPants · 05/08/2019 10:26

There's also a hell of a lot of PTSD too. Clearly, this is serious and people do suffer from it, but it does seem odd that so many people claim to have PTSD on Mumsnet rather than just awful memories of a rotten time in their lives. Again, so much self diagnosis (I think).

PTSD just seem to be the in one at the moment. A few years ago it was Bipolar Disorder.

LoafofSellotape · 05/08/2019 22:05

"I knew a psychopath..."

No you didn't ,stop being dramaticHmm

LaMarschallin · 05/08/2019 22:31

A few years ago it was Bipolar Disorder

Always described as "I've got Bipolar".

"Bipolar" what? World maps?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 05/08/2019 23:05

incandescent with rage!

Haha That one too , Drives me mad. I picture them about to literally explode or go through the motions that David Tenant did with his regeneration .

Greysparkles · 05/08/2019 23:58

Head tilt Hmm

BenWillbondsPants · 06/08/2019 06:08

Ah yes, bi polar.

A couple of months ago someone at work told me that they have 'bi polar and anger issues'. I asked what support they were getting at work. She told me it was difficult to get support because she hadn't been to the doctor but she 'just knew that's what it is'.
