Lines that break your heart

I'm just watching a Queen documentary on tv.

Many songs move me, but no single lyric breaks my heart like "I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all" Sad. The utter, desolate sadness of that simple statement, socks me every time I hear it.

The Birds of a Feather theme song always makes me cry hysterically!

KezzabellaB · 27/07/2019 16:26

'I watch the world go round and round, and see mine turning upside down' - Throwing It All Away by Genesis.
It was on the radio the day my ex husband moved out and even though I was the one who ended the marriage, it still made me sad. Nearly 20 years on, I'm very happily married for the 2nd time, but it still gives me a lump in my throat if I hear it.

Purplehammer · 27/07/2019 17:15

If I could hold you now, just for a minute
If I could only make you mine,
Just for one second hold back the hands of time.
If I could only hold you now.

But I’ve been too long in the wind, too long in the rain
taking any shelter that I can.
Looking back and longing for the freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again.

Ellie Brooks.

Bazinga277 · 27/07/2019 17:26

I could have been someone,
Well so could anyone!
You took my dreams from me when I first found you.
I kept them with me babe, I put them with my own. Can't make it all alone, I built my dreams around you.

There are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather.
I had a dream my life would be so different from this hell i'm living!

80sMum · 27/07/2019 17:28

"Sometimes I wonder who you'd be today.
Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams,
Settle down with a family.
I wonder what would you name your babies.
Some days the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you,
I know it might sound crazy.
It ain't fair you died too young,
Like a story that had just begun"

From "Who You'd be Today" by Kenny Chesney.

For my baby boys who died at one day old, 37 years ago. ❤️

Lepetitpiggy · 27/07/2019 17:34

Cheating as it was something my dying mother said to me.
'I know you'll always look after me won't you - you're my mummy '
Its only 5 months since she died and my heart is still shattered

BollocksIsTheWord · 27/07/2019 17:39

“I’m so hollow, baby. I’m so hollow..”
Cheesy but this last bit of James Blunt’s Goodbye My Lover always hits me. Sums up the way I’ve felt many times in a previous shitty relationship.

Pepperstripe · 27/07/2019 17:40

@Thatnovembernight - Oh my so sad! This bit gets me too....

Why does everyone want to go away? I love being home. But I don't like being left behind. Now I am the one going ahead. I am not afraid. I can be brave like you.

Weep weep weep!!!

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 27/07/2019 17:42

@wigglybeezer that got me 😓

Livpool · 27/07/2019 17:49

Ex Factor by Lauren Hill

The whole refrain but especially "Why won't you live for me"

Livpool · 27/07/2019 17:52

"How can the light that burnt so brightly, suddenly burn so pale"

Bright Eyes - reminds me of my aunt who passed away this week

Bobbindobbin · 27/07/2019 18:01

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please
Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Joyeuse · 27/07/2019 18:16

Callum Scott - No Matter What
The whole song (and the video) hits a nerve with me

wichitalinemanswoman · 27/07/2019 18:19

And I need you more than want you. And I want you all the time.

wichitalinemanswoman · 27/07/2019 18:19

For all time!!! Not all the time!

CushyButtercup · 27/07/2019 18:33

Last line of Seamus Heaney's poem 'Half term break' - A four foot box, a foot for every year.

From "Fiddler on the Roof" I remember watching this film with my dad many years ago and seeing the tears roll down his face during the 2nd verse. I didn't understand at the time but now I totally get why.
For those who don't know the musical , the first verse is sung by a woman leaving home to live with her man hundreds of miles away and the second is sung by her father.

How can I hope to make you understand
Why I do what I do,
Why I must travel to a distant land,
Far from the home I love.
Once I was happily content to be
As I was, where I was,
Close to the people who are close to me,
Here in the home I love.
Who could see that a man could come
Who would change the shape of my dreams.
Helpless now I stand with him,
Watching older dreams grow dim.
Oh, what a melancholy choice this is,
Wanting home, wanting him,
Closing my heart to ev'ry hope but his,
Leaving the home I love,
There where my heart has settled long ago
I must go, I must go, I must go,
Who could imagine I'd be wand'ring so
Far from the home I love
Yet, there with my love, I'm home.

How can she think we wouldn't understand
Why she does what she does,
Why she must travel to a distant land,
Far from the home she loves.
Once she was happily content to be
As she was, where she was,
Safe in the bosom to her family,
Here in the home she loves.
Who could see that a man could come
Who would change the shape of her dreams.
Helpless now she stands with him,
Watching older dreams grow dim.
Oh, what a melancholy choice this is,
Wanting home, wanting him,
Closing her heart to ev'ry hope but his,
Leaving the home she loves,
There where her heart has settled long ago
She must go, she must go, she must go,
Who could imagine she'd be wand'ring so
Far from the home she loves
Yet there with her love, she's home..

Love the Lord of the Flies quote.
Another one from that book is "Passions beat around Simon on the mountain top with awful wings". First read it in 4th year at school.and have never forgotten it

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/07/2019 18:48

From the famous Larkin poem:

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.

My counsellor recommended I really, properly READ this poem and that line just summed up everything I was going through and it just made horrible, horrible sense. I actually have tears running down my face as I type this now.

Also, when my ex kissed me goodbye and said "see you later", because the next thing he said, hours later, was tell me he didn't love me and we were over, right out of the blue.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/07/2019 18:55

TooGood2BeFalse - "John Legend All of Me."

Yes but you missed the chorus bit with:

'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections

Curves and edges and perfect imperfections.

Rodders92 · 27/07/2019 18:59

“When you hurt someone so much yet still they die loving you” Seal

OldAndWornOut · 27/07/2019 19:01
Sad This thread is lovely. I'm having a weep at everyone's sadness.
user1497512303 · 27/07/2019 19:17

^But I know in my heart of hearts
I know I'm never gonna hold you again
-^ Phil Collins, I wish it would rain down.

Years ago had the most amazing boyfriend and we loved each other intensely but ultimately we couldn't be together. This song was on the car radio the last time we were together. Didn't pay much attention to it at the time but a few weeks later heard it again and it just reduced me to floods of tears.

It still does.

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2019 19:29

And finally I twist my heart round again, so that the bad is on the outside and the good is on the inside, and keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and could be, if there weren't any other people living in the world.
