If you don’t do online food shopping

do you mind me asking why not?

I cannot imagine doing it all in person any more, takes me ten mins to wizz through my favourites.
A friend of mine was looking slightly surprised when I said we do it online, and I think there was a weird superiority to her reply.

Gawd this reads like market research. It’s really not.

I guess I can think of cost (we do any time delivery for £20 a quarter but if you thought it was £7 a delivery I can see why that would put you off).

I hope we are doing free market research for someone if it means they get better at putting the gluten free stuff online!

When ds was younger the supermarket was a trip out of the house around other people as it was very difficult to take him out anywhere ( severely disabled) and he was ok in the supermarket trolley.
When he got too big for the trolley we stopped going - no sn trolleys then.
Then sn trolleys came in but he had got unused to the supermarket and would kick and hit me in it and have meltdowns getting in and out of it, so I gave up on that.
These days I have 'delivery saver' for school holidays and so make use of it for frozen and big stuff in term time.

I ship in Aldi it's take 20 minutes door to door. I also go to the local butcher for meat and fishmonger for fish. If I can buy locally I will, so I don't usually need much from a a supermarket. When I used to shop in Tesco or Sainsbury's I found that I'd end up purchasing more than we needed and lots of processed stuff, so I stopped doing online shopping ( unless I'm really ill and can't get out)

Our main shop is ocado, rarely any substitute at all, can't even remember last time had one and when they very a rarely cock up they are very good at smoothing it over eg free delivery, vouchers etc.

We do one smaller shop physically.

Used to do everything online, especially when kids were small, but now an Aldi and M&S have opened up near me so more often than not I go in person. Aldi for the usual stuff, M&S for nicer bits. Tesco now down to once a month for things Aldi don’t do - tofu and a particular kind of mozarella, mainly.

It depends if I'm working and where I'm working, if I have to pass a supermarket on my way home I might call in.

Most groceries are from Tesco, delivered without bags, but meat and fresh veg I get from a couple of local shops.

ShatnersWig · 01/08/2019 08:06

I'm a single person. With Sainsbury's delivery is between £1 and £6 depending on time slot if you spend over £40 and minimum spend is £25. The only time I spend over £40 in one hit is Christmas. Half the time I don't even spend over £25.

Added to which, there are some products that I can only get at, say, Asda, but others I can only get at Sainsbury's. So it's totally pointless.

Because I am Queen of the Yellow Label. I have not paid the full amount for meat or fish for months.

You cannot get yellow label reduced to clear online. Plus I work for myself from home so can get to the shop on a weekday morning when it's less busy.

butterwithtoast · 01/08/2019 08:12

I used to online shop with Sainsbury's, but in an effort to save £ we've switched to Aldi and so have to go in person. I can't complain tho, my husband goes, and it is cheaper.

RedSheep73 · 01/08/2019 08:17

I do online some of the time but mostly I do it in person. Mostly because I'm not that organised, partly because everyone else in my house hates it when I online shop, because I don't get as many treats! on the plus side, the supermarkets are nowhere near as busy as they used to be now everyone is getting it delivered, so doing the shopping even on a Friday evening isn't the chore it once was. My dd loves to come and help, as she's got older she is actually helpful now rather than pita.

We’re half an hour from town and no one will deliver out to us. Not that we’d use it as we shop at a combination of Aldi, the butchers, farm shops and the fruit/veg markets an hour away.

I love food shopping and always take my 18year old with me - it’s a great opportunity to chat and catch up on her life.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/08/2019 05:34

I used to shop online when I was with my ex because we did not have a car but my fiance does so we go in the car. We shop at aldi, Iceland etc. When it comes to fresh items I like to look at the goods to check they are in good condition! Also I don't always have the same things and I generally just like to wander around!
