I'm done with summer. Im looking forward to nice boots, psl, and crisper air.

Anyone else with me?!

Summer clothes don't have effective pockets and most of them need ironing to look okay. You also have to choose between useless ineffective dig-in strapless bra or bra on show in random places.

Floaty things just stick to me and snag on things. Skimpy things require a gallon of suncream.

Shoes without socks give me blisters too.

Summer clothes can fuck right off.

MitziK · 19/07/2019 16:41

Bring it on.

Temperatures below 18 degrees [glares at the digital sensor on my tower fan - that has been running day and night for weeks - where it still hasn't gone below 27 degrees at night, despite keeping the curtains closed. I hate having a Southeast facing bedroom in summer].

I can make great slabs of bread pudding with loads of Allspice and nobody moans 'can't you make cupcakes?' no I fucking can't because they are vile or 'how about a nice Victoria Sponge with cream I can't eat, strawberries that cost a fortune and jam I made last Autumn and do not intend upon sharing ?'

Nice woolly cardies and jumpers instead of trying to find something that isn't seethrough. Decent weight material in clothes. Boots and thick socks. And ribbed tights - I love them, like wearing supersoft trousers, but with the ability to look slightly less dumpy. No having to shave to wear them, either. Scarves, woolly hats, the smell of beech leaves in the air and cobwebs decorating hedges with a thousand sparkling jewels. And being able to snuggle up in bed rather than perch on the sides so we don't touch and sticking my legs out of the covers, providing a tasty buffet for nasty bitey things.

These Autumns where it's either Summer not knowing when to shove off or Winter decides to come in early are not welcome here.

CORSACORSA · 19/07/2019 16:42

Love Autumn! Im already prepping. Buying kindle, logs and anthracite. Love the smell of coal fires in the air.

TapasForTwo · 19/07/2019 18:32

I say this on every "I hate summer" thread on mumsnet.

Mumsnet has a disproportionate number of posters who hate summer. I also think that most of them have a romanticised idea of autumn. We have very few crisp, clear days. In reality autumn where I live is grey, damp and gloomy. The roads are clogged, the low light levels depress me and mean that I don't see very well.

Of all the people I know in real life not one of them hates summer.

We have had 17 degrees today and pouring rain.

Disclaimer - I do know that people with some medical conditions find warm/hot weather unbearable, so they have every sympathy.

Zenithbear · 19/07/2019 18:42

No this summer is perfect for me. I love Autumn but have 3 holidays to go on during the summer so definitely not wishing my life away.

TapasForTwo · 19/07/2019 18:49

I also think that most of the summer haters must live in London or the South East because the weather and temperatures they are complaining about just aren't happening where I live (South Yorkshire - still pissing down BTW)

SnuggyBuggy · 19/07/2019 18:49

To be honest I just like being able to go about my day to day life without getting drenched in sweat, the crisp autumn days are just a bonus

RosaWaiting · 19/07/2019 18:54

My favourite is spring

I’m dreading 34c next week but that is partly because the flat, office and underground will all be boiling.

Ellapaella · 19/07/2019 19:30

There definitely seems to be a heatwave that is only occurring in London and the South East. Up here in Newcastle it's been a crap summer compared to last year.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 19/07/2019 20:51

I live in Scotland and hate the summer 🤷‍♀️ The weather is disgusting just now, wet but still warm and humid and clammy.

Strongteaplease · 19/07/2019 20:56

Oversized jumpers, thick thermal socks, comfort food, listening to the rain on my roof when I'm in bed, lighting my fire, hot baths . aahhhh lovely. I can't wait. Autumn just feels, looks and smells magical!

flapjackfairy · 19/07/2019 21:28

I just feel at home during the winter months somehow . It feels like my natural environment. Autumn is second best and then spring and summer.
Somehow I am just no good at summer , but I appreciate others love it so I try to keep my loathing to myself.

EnidButton · 19/07/2019 21:56

I live further North than you Tapas and I don't like Summer. People like different things that's all.

EnidButton · 19/07/2019 21:57

See this sounds like heaven to me. Smile

You wouldn't need any of these if it wasn't cold Confused

Fibbke · 19/07/2019 22:13

May is the best. Long evenings, not too hot, garden looks beautiful. September a close second.

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/07/2019 22:16

Yes, May and September are my favourites too

Isthisnecessary · 19/07/2019 22:39

To add to my loathing of summer...although I do appreciate this is only isolated to my experience...

Tonight (most nights really) I've had:

Neighbours kids screaming/screeching most of the day at the front of the house where they play

Their parents screaming at the kids then at each other

Neighbours across the road with yet another drama involving cars, three different families the police and more screaming, threats, etc.

Another neighbour doing DIY with every power tool and hammer ever invented
And some fucker is letting off fireworks.

This is every single summer. Every. Single.Summer since they've all moved in 10 years ago.

Isthisnecessary · 19/07/2019 22:40

At least in winter they all fuck off back inside and the street goes back to the lovely quiet one I loved when I first moved in 20 years ago.

Now I'm desperate to move.

TapasForTwo · 19/07/2019 22:42

I'll send you some of our weather Isthisnecessary. It's been pissing down all day. Proper Yorkshire rain. None of this namby pamby drizzle.

RosaWaiting · 19/07/2019 22:45

Noise is always a pain in summer.

TapasForTwo · 19/07/2019 22:48

Fortunately we have quiet neighbours. Noisy neighbours must be a nightmare.

One set had a loud party outside last year, with dreadful karaoke. At midnight the sound system was switched off and quiet reigned. TBF this was a one off, although I was a bit miffed not to be prewarned beforehand (or even invited).

ExtraFox19 · 19/07/2019 22:48

Yes it’s my favourite season.

bumblingbovine49 · 19/07/2019 22:52

I love in the south east and whilst we have had a few very hot days n the whole this has been what I would call an average summer. We had about 4 weeks of constant rain and very cool weather here in early June. My tomatoes got blight it was so wet. It has been a better July with omeega hot day but not unbearable at all on all other days I am.wearing a jumper today as we are having a rainy cool weekend so.far which I am.finding miserable. There are few hot day forecast next week but in the whole it has definitely not been a heatwave !!

I am definitely NOT looking forward to autumn. I never do. It will be dank, dark and depressing as usual.

Isthisnecessary · 19/07/2019 22:56

I'm in South Yorkshire. It's been raining here but it's the heat that does it.

When it's cold, they all stay in.
