Do I have to feed my children?

We have no food in the house and it's raining. I can't be bothered. Missing a meal will be good for them, right?

How come you’ve got all the rain? It’s been dry here for ages

Oh yeah. You’d better feed the kids. They really moan and complain if you don’t !!

huuskymam · 13/07/2019 22:15

Isn't this having to cook every day a right pain in the arse. We went for a 6 kilometre hike and when we got home the kids insisted on being fed. Luckily enough the hubby was capable of making them pasta and meatballs while I had a well needed nap.

I rarely eat like it at home either @PickAChew as it does take ages. Me and DBro live up to the stereotypes though and invite ourselves to eat at our parents house lots though!

Mine had mostly coleslaw for tea. She was offered hot dogs, salad, coleslaw and fruit. She ate the coleslaw. I have no idea why I even bother.

I have, however, just eaten two cereal bars and given myself jaw cramp. Those things are CHEWY.

Tell you what I am good at feeding though, the bloody slugs and snails in the garden. In the last two days they’ve eaten: two Lupins (the last of the original 15 that they’ve also eaten.....), half a lavender bush, three heads of lettuce, many many holes in my baby cabbages, ALL of the strawberries, several baby foxgloves and all of the phlox babies.

PickAChew · 13/07/2019 22:30

Lupins are crack for slugs, unfortunately. Next door's were magnificent last year and I've seen no sign, this year, as it's been such a wet Spring.

They're just munching on the basil I rather optimistically planted out. I need to have a word with our resident blackbirds, I think.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 13/07/2019 22:34

I'm the sauce hoarder in my family, 12 kinda of relish and 5 types of mustard.... but sauce on toast can be fun!

stucknoue · 13/07/2019 22:40

It's for days like yours my habit of hoarding food for the apocalypse comes in handy, I can probably cook food for my whole neighbourhood (and I'm not exaggerating, I have nearly 20kg of basmati rice and 36 cans of chopped tomatoes!) it's not Brexit related, its my grandmothers fault, she did it as a reaction to rationing!

My top tip is spaghetti, chopped tomatoes, tinned anchovies, Italian dried herbs, garlic plus onion, possibly other veg if you have them. Have this you always have dinner.

GreyhoundzRool · 13/07/2019 23:42

Where on Earth are you that you’ve got rain ?!

Not a bloody chance of a drop here

Durgasarrow · 14/07/2019 04:47

Surely there are dandelions in the backyard. Can't they be sent out to forage?

StealthPolarBear · 14/07/2019 06:57

I'm near pick a chew in the North East. No rain so far today!

I love the look of the emergency pie! That is hilarious

Ferfeckssake · 14/07/2019 09:54

A day of looking after kids is a success if
" All fed, nobody dead " was an expression of my Nan. And she had 10 !

Rachelover40 · 15/07/2019 03:52

stucknoue, sounds perfect but don't forget grated cheese on top.
Yum! May I join you?
