We have no food in the house and it's raining. I can't be bothered. Missing a meal will be good for them, right?

Send dh with a list.

I can’t have mine with me shop as my trolley ends up full of extra shite we don’t need, and he’ll complain about the food bill 🙄 he’s permanently banned as are the dss.

sanityisamyth · 13/07/2019 18:12

I've got D&V and feel like death. DS just back from his father (who refused to keep him overnight so I don't make him ill). Living in a house with no oven or hob. Have just been on Just Eat and ordered him a chicken nuggets and chips, and garlic bread to be delivered from 200 yards down the road.

not feeling at all guilty

YABU to have no food in the house with kids.

These things eat all the time!

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 13/07/2019 18:17

So you have to serve them a 4 course meal. Starter of vegetables when they are at their hungriest. Pasta with vegetables, a cheese course and then stewed apple for dessert. All washed down with water.

don't most people give starters or salad, a main and a pud to their kids?

EssentialHummus · 13/07/2019 18:17

Right, desperate times and all that. Open all cupboards plus freezer and see what’s lurking. Stray peas? Yes! Half a pack of rice cakes? Score! Tin of mackerel? Get in there! Lay it all out on a chopping board, call it a picky tea and you’re on the home straight.

DragonflyInn · 13/07/2019 18:18

I just love these random insights into other people’s lives Grin.

Pickachew We just took a nice walk back up from town, so DS1 could take photos of all the re-routed buses. We got to cunty hall
I really want to know more about these buses, and also cunty hall!

Meanwhile op, I vote for cheesecake!

SadOtter · 13/07/2019 18:18

There must be leftover bits in the freezer - you know a burger, 2 fishfingers, a turkey drummer, half a bag of frozen veg etc where you haven't quite used a whole pack for a meal? I am great at making up a meal from those, we call it if-it's (as in if it's there it's going on the plate) it started out as a money was tight thing but the kids love it and request it these days.

What have you got? I bet I can make something that doesn't involve going to the shop.

NeverMindTheBuzzards · 13/07/2019 18:23

You know what they say... Fed is best. Only best, not expected. You're all good Grin

PickAChew · 13/07/2019 18:25

Dragonfly Inn it was the Durham miner's gala, today so most of the city centre roads were closed. DS1 is a bus enthusiast and likes taking photos of them, even better when they're not where you expect them to be.

County Hall just has an O missing :o

Fish and chips were just the job. I feel quite fortified, now.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2019 18:27

I saw french teenagers inhale biscuits and cola that they just bought from iceland granted they were not throwing food but totally having a ball😁

I keep a couple of tins of M&S Chunky Beef and Chicken in White Sauce in the cupboard - Emergency Pie is one of our favourite teas

Do I have to feed my children?
dementedma · 13/07/2019 18:33

We've had salad the last two nights as cant be arsed cooking. For the last 2 nights DS has said "yuk, salad" and done himself a pizza. The plan is working. Although today I have actually baked a cake to use up squishy plums and cherries. Now Im having gin.

BarkandCheese · 13/07/2019 18:34

Have you got olive oil or butter and garlic and rice or pasta? If so fry the prawns in the garlic and oil or butter and serve mixed into rice or pasta. If you’ve got frozen peas you could add some in too for a veg portion.

jennymanara · 13/07/2019 18:35

@mrsjayy in fairness the book does not claim that French kids do not like fizzy drinks and sweets, cakes and biscuits.

Bubblysqueak · 13/07/2019 18:39

I now really want cheese cake despite having a dairy allergy and being completely stuffed with Chinese!

Socksontheradiator · 13/07/2019 18:40

Your DH sounds like mine. Left to his own devices he'd come back from shops with nothing but crisps and doughnuts and chocolate.
If you think hard enough the full 5 a day are in there: cocoa beans, sugar cane (or sugar beet?) vanilla (from a pod, right?) fruit (if it's a jammy doughnut) and potato. Healthy diet. Sorted.
As aside note I wish it would bloody rain here. I have a humidity headache :(

StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2019 18:57

Loving all the suggestions

Sobeyondthehills my dad made me a jam sandwich for tea once when my mum was out I was well impressed. He was a culinary genius. My poor mum who fed me balanced meals the other 364 days got no credit

You must have some random tins. Take the labels off and have a lucky dip.

StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2019 18:59

And to all those saying pasta and sauce, you're so right but DD only eats home made sauce, little pasta sauce snob. And I've not got any in the freezer

OP posts:
Socksontheradiator · 13/07/2019 19:02

You've made me want a jam sandwich now!

shieldmaidenofrohan · 13/07/2019 19:02

Definitely character building. All foods give you cancer anyway

StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2019 19:05

Yes in the meantime I've been to the shop and we're having indoor bbq. So cancer causing central here

Soola 😆 And for the record I still can’t get over your beautiful beach hands (diamonds thread) and another where I thought you said you were in your 50s. Your hands are so... not like my middle-aged wrinkly things.
