Have you had your vacuum cleaner for more than 2 years? Do you have a pet? If so, can you tell me what it is please?

I mean, tell me what your vacuum cleaner is...not your pet!
I think my Vax Air Pet has just died. Angry I have had it less than 3 years but it just seems to have lost suction.

I only had the vacuum cleaner before then for a couple of years too and I am starting to get seriously pissed off!

Can someone please recommend me a bomb-proof vacuum that can cope with pet hair (I have a beautiful ginger cat!), can effectively clean stairs and will actually last a while?! Angry

I have a cat and 2 gerbils, and I use a hetty hoover. No complaints!

AxolotlRose · 12/07/2019 17:18

I have 3 cats and a Dyson DC32 Animal. Got it in 2011 and it has just started to lose suction. I liked it but hate getting it in and out of where I have to store it so I was going to try a Dyson cordless V10 Absolute next. Watching to see if any MNers have a good recommendation!

Dyson upright here and two cats (one longish haired). Been going for 10 years.

I have cats, and have the Miele Cats & Dogs. . . I liked it so much in NZ, I got the exact some one when we came over here. My one in NZ had lasted a good three or four years.

maggienolia · 12/07/2019 17:47

Dyson DC40 animal here, 5 years old and still going. We have a constantly shedding moggy.

IntoValhalla · 12/07/2019 17:48

Dyson Animal - The purple one with the ball axel thingy.
I got it four years ago after my Vax Pet one died out of the blue. I’ve had to have one spare part for the filter sent out for my Dyson in those 4 years, and that was my fault because I dropped it and it cracked while I was cleaning it

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2019 18:00

Miele cat and dog.

missmouse101 · 12/07/2019 18:03

Miele cat and dog. About 12 years old and still going strong!

oyoyoy · 12/07/2019 18:05

Miele Cat and Dog is brilliant.

Fern204 · 12/07/2019 18:09

Miele cat and dog... two very hairy terriers and going strong after 7 years

britnay · 12/07/2019 18:10

Miele Cat and Dog - must be at least 10 years old now and still going strong. So much better than the cordless...

GeneandFred · 12/07/2019 18:12

2 cats here and we've got a Shark Duo Clean. Amazing hoover.

IamChipmunk · 12/07/2019 18:13

Ive got a cocker that sheds a lot and have a dyson, not the ball one just a normal upright. Its years old...

lpchill · 12/07/2019 18:17

Cat, dog and toddler. Two bed mid terrace so I'm hoovering at least every other day. Had the shark duo for over 3 years now. I am disgusted about the amount of stuff it pulls out of the carpet every time I hoover. Love my hoover though

HardAsSnails · 12/07/2019 18:17

We've had our Miele cat and dog for well over a decade and it still works perfectly.

wonkylegs · 12/07/2019 18:24

Miele - it's now 11yo and has had a replacement hose recently but the vacuum itself is still going strong

PinPon · 12/07/2019 18:25

Miele Cat & Dog here too. Over 10 years old.

Nottobesoldseparately · 12/07/2019 18:28

Gtech air ram.
Very hairy Labrador.
Over 3 years old now.
I also got the hand held one which works reasonably well on the boot of the car too.
Before that I had a Hoover, specifically for pets. It was shit.

drsausage · 12/07/2019 18:28

Miele - it's now 11yo and has had a replacement hose recently but the vacuum itself is still going strong

Exactly the same here.

QforCucumber · 12/07/2019 18:30

Dyson dc40 upright here. Had it 4 years, the brush bar unit died a couple of months ago but as was under Dyson's 5 year warranty they came out and replaced it for free. We have 2 cats and a 3 year old so lots of bitty floors

GoldPaperStars · 12/07/2019 18:32

Another Miele here. It’s bloody brilliant.

We also have a Dyson hand held for quick inbetween big clean hoovers, but the suction is nothing compared to the Miele.

Icedlatte · 12/07/2019 18:32

Vax power pet 2. It's absolutely terrible

MoobaaMoobaa · 12/07/2019 18:34

cat, dog, degu's, straw and hay from the stables.

My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby, it's 25 years old. it's a monster the beater and suck on it is amazing.

I bought it secondhand 5 years ago for £60 after going through a multitude of new Hoover's, dysons, Henry's and others.

Al2O3 · 12/07/2019 18:35

We have a herd of Wildebeest that frequent the patio. We use a Municipal Wolters Roadsweeper unit adapted to fit on a Mercedes flat bed truck.

stucknoue · 12/07/2019 18:39

I have a Henry, 8 years old with a hairy collie in residence. There's a reason commercial cleaners use them!
