Have you had your vacuum cleaner for more than 2 years? Do you have a pet? If so, can you tell me what it is please?

I mean, tell me what your vacuum cleaner is...not your pet!
I think my Vax Air Pet has just died. Angry I have had it less than 3 years but it just seems to have lost suction.

I only had the vacuum cleaner before then for a couple of years too and I am starting to get seriously pissed off!

Can someone please recommend me a bomb-proof vacuum that can cope with pet hair (I have a beautiful ginger cat!), can effectively clean stairs and will actually last a while?! Angry

Shark Liftaway! Amazing. I've had a Miele Cat and Dog and a Dyson previously. Wouldn't swap my shark, 3 years old and used daily.

ThatLibraryMiss · 13/07/2019 00:03

A wonderful feature of the Shark is that you can wash its filters* when it starts to lose suction or smell doggy. It's really well designed as far as tool storage and the hose are concerned.

  • Including the one I didn't know about, hidden behind the front grill, that takes ages to dry.

Miele Cat & Dog ....15 years old... vac has outlived two dogs and a cat

Redact · 13/07/2019 07:12

Miele here too, we've a constantly shedding cat and hoover most days. Prior to the Miele we had a couple of dysons but would never go back, the Miele is a far superior machine

Thegirlwithnousername · 13/07/2019 08:38

We have a Labrador and a 3 year old..not sure which one makes the most mess but we have a Henry hoover and he's great!

LoafofSellotape · 13/07/2019 08:40

Miele cylinder

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/07/2019 12:34

Thanks all! I am just tried the Vax again and it works! So vacuum cleaner buying may be postponed a while. I think it is on its way out though so I will keep these recommendations for when I need to replace

Miele Cat andDog.

Had it for at least 5 years. Have two big hairy hogs too.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/07/2019 12:37

Dogs!

ThatJewishMum · 13/07/2019 12:43

Hiya,

I've got a Miele - the one that shifts animal fur (not directly off of pet, I hasten to add!) I used to use the Dyson pet ones previously but the £££ became too high after our last one conked out.

EdWinchester · 13/07/2019 12:45

Another Miele here. They are the best.

TowerRingInferno · 13/07/2019 13:10

Miele cat and dog and 2 retrievers.

Used to have a Dyson but the Miele is 100 times better.

SpaceCadet4000 · 13/07/2019 13:12

2 cats, and we got a cheap Bissell Cleanview which is brilliant but heavy. Mind you, we only have carpets in our bedrooms so it's not much of a task.

Dyson Animal cylinder. 15 years old and still going strong. Used daily.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 14/07/2019 17:40

@flouncyfanny I just took it all apart and gave it a thorough clean. I had no idea you could take the filter out! Blush. It was black! No wonder it was over heating...
Thanks for the tip. Hopefully it'll give it a new lease of life
