Has anyone noticed a difference switching to bar soap?

A few weeks ago I stopped using shower gel and face wash and use only soap now (dove beauty if interested).
I have noticed that even in the heat we have had I am hardly sweating. And I have also noticed that my sparse eyebrows are definitely thickening up for the first time in years! Is this likely to do with the soap? I did notice it says sulphate free on the box.

D uses the Dove bar as it is the cheapest that doesn't bring her out in zits. The other is bee good honey and propolis.

UnderOverUnderRover · 09/07/2019 13:43

I don't use soap or shower gel. I've only just realised Blush

Dh has so many shower gel bottles there's hardly any room for mine anyway!

NomDePrune · 09/07/2019 14:46

Do check your soap ingredients though - most contain palm oil and can still be marketed as vegan, despite the industry destroying the rain forest!

Underoverunderover - what do you use instead of soap or shower gel? Just interested.

MulticolourMophead · 09/07/2019 15:31

I stopped using shower gear loo a a few years ago, but then found that a number of soaps had SLS in them. Lux and Radox are ok, and I do buy a few nice ones when I find them.

They leave me feeling cleaner than gel, but i dont use them on my face.

BelindasGleeTeam · 09/07/2019 15:40

Frenchsoaps.com

The French market or holidays are a temptation for me. I currently have a bit of a stash but they foam beautifully and leave my skin soft and really clean.

The olive oil savon de Marseille is a great stain remover and grated into hot water, fab for washing floors too

MulticolourMophead · 09/07/2019 15:43

My fat fingers aren't helping today, that should be shower gel, not whatever it turned out as.

growlingbear · 09/07/2019 15:47

Sorry but it's the opposite for me. Bar soap made my skin smell weirdly sour and it gives me mild cystitis. Shower gel works far better for me. I will keep trying to find a bar soap for eco reasons, though. Maybe Dove.

kelper · 09/07/2019 15:47

I've just bought some Nesti Dante having read this thread, I'm such a sheep!
I do use a Lush soap on my face sometimes, although if I use it all the time it dries my skin out, so I alternate with Aldis hot cloth cleanser.
If I crocheted the soap a little bag to live in, would I be able to use that as a shower puff? I always find the puff is better than just applying shower gel with my hands.

LoafofSellotape · 09/07/2019 19:14

Bar soap made my skin smell weirdly sour and it gives me mild cystitis I'm slightly worried to ask how? Where do you put it?Shock

Likethebattle · 09/07/2019 21:00

I use Dettol sensitive. It’s 99p in savers, the antibacterial action helps me feel fresh.

MyGuideJools · 09/07/2019 22:03

I've recently started using 'Marseille' soap and I love it! There are so many fragrances, my favourites are almond or vanilla. They smell divine and make a lovely smooth lather. I'm a convert!

growlingbear · 09/07/2019 22:06

@LoafofSellotape - it was my arms that smelled sour. It was expensive soap too. Jo Malone. And the one that gave me mild cystitis was L'Occitane. Where are you supposed to use soap if not the places that need washing?

dementedma · 09/07/2019 22:07

Have switched to soap to reduce plastic bottles. Dove smells lovely.

LoafofSellotape · 09/07/2019 22:11

Where are you supposed to use soap if not the places that need washing? I wouldn't put soap inside me,it's making me wince just thinking about it!

MissLadyM · 09/07/2019 22:15

I've always used both! Bar soap for pits & bits, gel on a loofah!

GrandmaTat · 09/07/2019 22:50

I have been making my own soap for three years as my skin is so sensitive. We keep bees so use the best oils and honey and my skin has never been so good. I won't use gels or chemicals anymore.

llangennith · 09/07/2019 23:01

I switched from handwash to Wright's Cold Tar soap and it's great for my hands. Not as drying as liquid handwash.

LoafofSellotape · 09/07/2019 23:02

I love the smell of coal tar soap, reminds me of my childhood.

I've just ordered a soap saver, anyone have one?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/07/2019 23:24

Yes I have recently

I use olive oil soap that I bought in France but can get it here is a little pricey. My skin is very very dry but have found it is better for my skin, also use of my face and definitely cleans me better especially sweaty areas

And I am trying to buy less plastic

YesQueen · 09/07/2019 23:29

I'm still using up shower gel so I have a weird routine which is soap for armpits and feet, shower gel for the rest of me Grin

FrumpyKnickers · 10/07/2019 06:22

Inspired by this thread I took a bar of soap into shower last night but it kept slipping out of my hands is there a secret to it?

QueenBeee · 10/07/2019 06:33

Never used liquid if I could avoid it - as it's a liquid how do you know you've washed it off? If you haven't washed it off you could be leaving the dirt on your skin!

LightsCameraAction · 10/07/2019 06:37

I put my bar in an exfoliating hand thingy. Does 2 jobs at once then - and much better skin since I moved back to soap a couple of years ago.

littlebillie · 10/07/2019 06:41

There was a thread on this a while ago and gels were discarded because of plastic.

Also if you like soap try the large french ones in TKMAXX - divine
