Has anyone noticed a difference switching to bar soap?

A few weeks ago I stopped using shower gel and face wash and use only soap now (dove beauty if interested).
I have noticed that even in the heat we have had I am hardly sweating. And I have also noticed that my sparse eyebrows are definitely thickening up for the first time in years! Is this likely to do with the soap? I did notice it says sulphate free on the box.

I've always used soap, but I use pure olive oil soap which is cheap as chips abroad, so I always buy a load when I'm on holiday.
I've never had any issues with my skin and hair. ( I use it on my hair too, it leaves it soft and shiny )

Yes, much better pits! Also I love the smell and the Nesti Dante bars last ages.

Deadringer · 08/07/2019 19:26

I use dove too, I switched a couple of years ago and I feel much cleaner and fresher than I did with shower gel. I was on holidays a few months ago and used the hotel shower gel for a couple of days and I just didn't feel clean, no way would I switch back. I have started using a shampoo bar too and I love it, my hair is squeaky clean with no residue.

The dove bar has got rid of my itchy, dry skin.

orangeshoebox · 08/07/2019 19:40

my eczema calmed right down and my skin is much softer.

I still need to moisturise the eczema prone areas but much less. and instead of having an outbreak every month now I have one once a year.

I buy my soap from a local lady who also sells on etsy. Her soap is lovely and creamy, I buy the lavender one but you can buy unscented. It lasts for ages.

Been using bars of soap instead of shower gel for about 9 months and no difference here although we've saved a fortune I reckon.

jennymanara · 08/07/2019 19:57

Bar soap lasts much longer but makes no difference to my armpits. But I suspect that most on MN do not use enough shower gel to be effective.

bobstersmum · 08/07/2019 20:13

Oh my goodness! I've just looked at the box and it doesn't even mention soap at all! What a wally! Well it's working for me though so I think I'll use up the stash I've got and then try some of the other ones suggested.

I love soap stopped over a year ago and have saved a fortune, only use 2 or 3 bars a year. I love looking for new ones.

Ohdearthefootball · 08/07/2019 20:22

dead ringer may I ask which shampoo soap bar you use please?

ChikiTIKI · 08/07/2019 20:25

I use soap, imperial leather. I like it and wouldn't switch to a gel due to the increased plastic packaging and bar soap makes me feel cleaner.

Downsides though are that it is bad for my hands if having an eczema flare up. And I have to clean the bath very frequently due to the soap scum. Makes the bath look filthy in my opinion.

Cherrysoup · 08/07/2019 20:28

Read elsewhere that Savon de Marseille is amazing for calming down eczema, maybe worth a try if you have skin issues.

amusedbush · 08/07/2019 20:28

I switched from shower gel to bar soap a few months ago thanks to a tip on here. I use Imperial Leather (the pinkish bar, like my granny always used Grin) and I love it. I feel much cleaner and my pits are definitely fresher.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/07/2019 20:31

I use the Bliss blue bar soap and notice a huge difference with my sweating now the weather is warm.

The only issue is that it's hard to come by so I have to send cash with friends visiting the USA and bribe them to bulk buy it. I once found a few bars in TKMaxx and bought every single one. It was better than Christmas.

joystir59 · 08/07/2019 20:35

Bar soap is gorgeous, but I don't like Palmolive it stings my eyes, and I don't like the Lidl Cien soaps either for the same reason. We buy good quality soap and really love it.

joystir59 · 08/07/2019 20:35

TK Max has fab soap

MrsWombat · 08/07/2019 20:41

This is really funny, as I switched to bar soap a couple of weeks ago for shaving my legs etc in the bath and my hands are all of a sudden much softer without moisturising them. I did not connect the two. I have not switched to bar hand soap yet, so It might just be a coincidence.

FrappeLatte · 08/07/2019 20:42

This is probably a very silly question... Blush how do you apply soap to your body? With shower gel I use a puff thing which makes it all foamy, but it doesn’t work with the soap as it seems that no matter how much I rub, there is very little soap on the puff. Should I just use my hands?

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2019 20:44

We change to Friendly Soap from Sanex shower gel about a year ago. We did this to cut down on plastic bottles and palm oil, but DH’s psoriasis has cleared up massively too.

NotStayingIn · 08/07/2019 20:45

For the last few years I have bought BECO Soap Bars and they are amazing. Under £3, last for ever, no itchy dry skin and it provides jobs for those who find it harder to work. But honestly, main reason: I don’t pong and it’s cheap and lasts forever. Love it!

MabelFurball · 08/07/2019 20:48

Sponges work well with soap.

orangeshoebox · 08/07/2019 20:52

I use a flannel to scrub face/under arms/boobs/groin/feet.

sycamore54321 · 08/07/2019 20:55

Another major soap fan and I’ve noticed a massive improvement in my body odour. Previously, I would be prone to being a bit stinky by the end of a warm or active day, and was constantly hunting down the perfect deodorant and paranoid about hygiene. Now with soap, I never get that uncomfortably icky feeling. I feel both that I perspire less, and it’s less smelly. My clothes are also much fresher.

Huge fan. I have gotten to the stage now where I resent using even the liquid soaps in public bathrooms - I’ve become that weirdo who brings my own bar of soap in a little tub to the bathroom at work!

Nousernameforme · 08/07/2019 21:01

We switched to soap about a year ago we use the pears green one. My feet are much less scaley despite living in sandals but my bath does get minging. And it kills bubble bath quite quickly
