Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

What is the point of the monarchy these days if not just to keep the public amused?

They turn up to events and wear nice clothes and give us some gossip and some stories in the papers. So yeah, I think it is a bit precious of them given their role but also I don’t really care.

My guess is that Will and Kate are not godparents so they want to keep this out of press for as long as possible to avoid new 'rift' headlines.

Harry isnt godfather to any of the Cambridge children so that's a complete non-issue, easily clarified.

Apparently the Royal family don't ask siblings to be godparents.

It is their baby, their choice. Archie is not public property - they don't have to share anything.

I think Harry and Meghan's child/children will always attract press interest due the the 'celeb' status of their parents. If Harry had married a horsey girl from Hampshire called Henrietta maybe the press attention would be slightly more sedate but in marrying Meghan it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll always be A List in media terms if not in actual royal terms.

Archie will be the cousin of King George. I haven’t got a clue who the Queen’s cousins are, and I don’t think anyone really cares about the details of their lives. So Archie should be afforded the same privacy.

I admire them for doing things their way. He's a minor royal and they don't need the stupid fanfare and public interest.

Dunno, I get the old drip feed from Harry and Meg on old Archie. Pics of his feet on insta but we don't know his godparents, haven't had a pic of his face!?

The real issue is why Harry and Megan are getting public money to renovate their cottage when both are very wealthy and Harry is a multi millionaire. Its absolutely stinks.

Could be that the Godparents are A Listers themselves I suppose. I could understand them wanting to keep that quiet. But whatever, I don't think it's a big deal.

They can do what they like, they aren't particularly interesting and a think the majority of people don't care. We would probably never have heard of the godparents anyway.

Does anyone really care about who the godparents are? It’s hardly as issue of public interest. If the parents and godparents want to keep a private family event private, I can’t see a problem.

It also makes me assume that the godparents are people who would be received negatively by the public eg the Clooneys.

Honestly, the comparison of Harry to someone on benefits is just offensive. Pretty sure many people on a minimum wage would happily share details of their child's god parents for the incredible wealth that Harry enjoys.

And I didn't make the rules but that is the deal Harry has signed up for by being a 'working' royal. Like it or just leave it and pursue a totally private life where there is no accountability to the people who fund part of it.
