Who could or should replace David Attenborough when the time comes?

This is a paradox of a thread really. Because we know he is irreplaceable. There will never be another like him. Though one day we should have figureheads who make us aware of the beauty that is all around us. Before we destroy it.

I have contemplated this question for some time. It has been raised before on MN (at least I think so). It came to me last night.

Monty Don.

He is engaging, sincere and loves nature. Importantly I don't think he is into himself.

Is he a good choice? Who would you nominate?

Shut this thread down op. Cannot.handle.

MustardScreams · 29/06/2019 16:10

Greta Thunberg absolutely. She’s already the driving force behind a massive, massive climate emergency acknowledgment and she’s 16!

BoudiccaKate · 29/06/2019 16:11

But yeah. I like Levison....

Grumpbum123 · 29/06/2019 16:12

Greta Thunberg or Steve Backshall

Although I find the death of my hero so very sad

Pipandmum · 29/06/2019 16:13

Not Monty Don! It would have to be someone passionate about animals for a start. But don’t worry David’s going to live forever!

Painsnail · 29/06/2019 16:15

Didn't Attenborough say that he thought Brian Cox should be his replacement?

Soola · 29/06/2019 16:16

Ben Fogle

Theghosttrain · 29/06/2019 16:16

Did someone mention Levison? Fans self. Joking apart, he was the first person that came to mind for me.

Al203 · 29/06/2019 16:17

Yeah....I have thought about Brian Cox. But I am not sure he has the depth to be honest. He is a nice guy. Just a bit aloof.

I would love to see Greta one day. I would love her to go out in the world and strengthen her core. Monty could sit for her in the meantime.

Not Monty Don. He has far too high an opinion of himself.

Theghosttrain · 29/06/2019 16:29

Oh no. Brian Cox gives me the creepd, it's his soft voice and damp lips.

EnidButton · 29/06/2019 16:29

Impossible to find anyone even close to his standard tbh. Honestly don't think there's anyone alive who could. He's a one off.

Theghosttrain · 29/06/2019 16:29

creeps

hadthesnip2 · 29/06/2019 16:31

Replace him for what....??? Doing HIS tv programme. Noooo. When he dies so does "Life on Earyh" or whatever he calls it nowadays. And isn't Monty Don a gardener ?? Hardly the same thing. Prof Brian Cox is an astronomer. Ditto.

Is his brother still alive ?? I believe he makes a good film or two.

Tana433 · 29/06/2019 16:39

Ben Fogle or Paul O'grady

Bodicea · 29/06/2019 16:41

Personally I think it's selfish of him not to have stepped aside earlier.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 29/06/2019 16:41

Alan Carr

Ambydex · 29/06/2019 16:41

Noooo. David Attenborough is basically his own genre.

Nature programmes may continue but there won't be a replacement David Attenborough. It's like asking who's the next Don Bradman in cricket.

TapasForTwo · 29/06/2019 16:44

Gordon Buchanan. I think he has been a camera man for DA. I watched his recent series and I would say it is up there with anything DA has done.

Brahumbug · 29/06/2019 16:46

Alan Carr and Paul O'Grady ? I hope that is a joke. Chris Packham would be a good choice.

Crinkle77 · 29/06/2019 16:47

David Attenborough is irreplaceable in my opinion. There are some good tv presenters around but he's got this presence and a voice I could listen to all day. BoudiccaKate do you mean Levison Wood? If so he is hot! Love Ben Fogle, Steve Backshall and Gordon Buchanan but they'll never be in the same league as DA

TazzaRazza · 29/06/2019 16:48

I think the planet might just give out when he does to be honest.

Crinkle77 · 29/06/2019 16:49

Brahumbug forgot about Chris Packham. Love him too. It's no to Great for me. She's just not engaging enough.

Bezalelle · 29/06/2019 16:49

It will never need to happen because he is eternal.
