Who could or should replace David Attenborough when the time comes?

This is a paradox of a thread really. Because we know he is irreplaceable. There will never be another like him. Though one day we should have figureheads who make us aware of the beauty that is all around us. Before we destroy it.

I have contemplated this question for some time. It has been raised before on MN (at least I think so). It came to me last night.

Monty Don.

He is engaging, sincere and loves nature. Importantly I don't think he is into himself.

Is he a good choice? Who would you nominate?

No to Greta that should have said.

CourageCamille · 29/06/2019 16:50

John Craven

Moominfan · 29/06/2019 16:51

Pp has it right David Attenborough is his own genre. Would like to see something different like brain cox with his own specialist niche. There will sadly never be another x

StarkStarter · 29/06/2019 17:00

I really like Simon Reeve. Who is the woman who presents Coast?

PalindromicUser · 29/06/2019 17:02

You know he’s not like the Dalai Lama, right?

There’s no need for anyone to replace him, not least because he’s still very much alive.

What a revoltingly morbid thread Confused

SamBeckett · 29/06/2019 17:03

I have no idea how he does it Sir David Attenborough seems to be able to carry enough gravitas in his voice to make you realise everything is serious but without being completely depressing.
For thouse that really like him and have got access to BBC Radio iPlayer he has a long running series on there or 10 or 15 minute shows where he speaks about one animal in particular the detail that goes into in that short time is amazing I've learnt so much by listening to him on these radio shows.

Nobody could fill his shoes, there will be a lot of pretenders to his throne and there are some good presenters out there but nothing like him

Gertie75 · 29/06/2019 17:04

Dh & I were talking about this last night!
We both thought Brian Cox and it's nice to see David himself thought the same.

Sagradafamiliar · 29/06/2019 17:06

Surely no one?

Al203 · 29/06/2019 17:12

Thank you, enlightening. I know he is irreplaceable. That’s why it’s hard to make a choice. My thread is all about making that choice, not ducking it.

It’s really hard. If you watch Monty Don, there is a steeliness about him that could be harnessed for the greater good.

Another vote for Chris Packham here. He's perfect.

BoudiccaKate · 29/06/2019 17:15

Hey @Crinkle77 Yes Levison Wood.....

But let's face it, we'll all implode when David dies. Sad

Perch · 29/06/2019 17:16

Dr Charlotte Uhlenbroek or Dr Brian Cox

But unthinkable really :(

Al203 · 29/06/2019 17:19

It looks like Brian Cox then.

At least Things Can Only Get Better Grin

BenWillbondsPants · 29/06/2019 17:30

Def not Brian Cox, although I like him very much.

Chris Packham or Gordon Buchanan.

But let's face it, there's no one who could ever replace DA.

teenmum18 · 29/06/2019 17:39

I thought you all were talking about this Brian 😂 didn't realise there was another Brian cox!

Who could or should replace David Attenborough when the time comes?
stucknoue · 29/06/2019 17:44

Steve backshall, love him

stucknoue · 29/06/2019 17:47

@hadthesnip2

No Richard Attenborough has died, our city has his art collection. Great pair of brothers and David was really friendly when dd played for him

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/06/2019 17:47

Although he is irreplaceable my choice would be Liz Bonham.
I think some of the people named are far too up themselves.

TeapotofTerror · 29/06/2019 18:06

Anyone but Chris Packham, he is dreadful!!

Although no one could ever replace Sir David Attenborough, he is a living legend.

ememem84 · 29/06/2019 19:24

Andy from Andy’s dinosaur adventures!

I think I will be genuinely upset when DA no longer presents the wildlife epics.

Redrupunzle · 29/06/2019 19:27

Love Steve backshall and Brian Cox. If guy Martin was passionate about this kind of thing I'd love him, I love the way he presents and his interest in topics

Crinkle77 · 29/06/2019 19:31

redrupunzle I love Guy Martin too. Do you remember years ago when he did a series about renovating a barge with his mate Maeve. Loved that series.

StumpyinSomerset · 29/06/2019 19:31

Chris Packham please, can't stand David Attenborough (awaits the shock/horror) myself,he irritates me for some bizzare reason

smileylottie87 · 29/06/2019 20:52

I judt presumed they woukd take his recorded words and edit together what they need!

Leakinglikeacolander · 30/06/2019 16:55

Genius idea 💡
