Who could or should replace David Attenborough when the time comes?

This is a paradox of a thread really. Because we know he is irreplaceable. There will never be another like him. Though one day we should have figureheads who make us aware of the beauty that is all around us. Before we destroy it.

I have contemplated this question for some time. It has been raised before on MN (at least I think so). It came to me last night.

Monty Don.

He is engaging, sincere and loves nature. Importantly I don't think he is into himself.

Is he a good choice? Who would you nominate?

Someone who has worked for and been trained by David Attenborough, already on his team.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 30/06/2019 17:03

Another vote for Steve Backshall

lollipopguild · 30/06/2019 17:05

Chris Packham

Al203 · 30/06/2019 20:50

What about Mr Tumble?

OP posts:
omione · 30/06/2019 21:07

Cant even go there

dementedma · 30/06/2019 21:12

Gordon Buchanan is a good choice.
But DA is a national treasure and irreplaceable

LittleWalnutTree · 30/06/2019 21:13

Cant even go there

Me neither

Crunchymum · 30/06/2019 21:24

Love Mr Tumble (may be a little bit of Stockholm Syndrome going on Grin) but D.A he isn't.

My 6yo loves Nigel Marvin? I personally think he's a but wild and interfers with the animals too much but he is certainly energetic!!

SunsetBeetch · 30/06/2019 21:56

Chris Packham.

Spinnaret · 30/06/2019 22:10

Anyone except Chris Packham.

Kanga83 · 30/06/2019 22:17

Gordon Buchanan for me- he reminds me of a young DA. Not arrogate, unassuming, done the job behind the lens for years. Cannot stand Monty Don!

goldpendant · 30/06/2019 22:20

Simon Reeve...... would happily have a lot more Simon on my screen

nordstrom · 30/06/2019 22:21

YY to Simon!

ChristineBaskets · 01/07/2019 15:22

I love Gordon Buchanan, so him or Steve Backshall or Liz Bonnin.

There was a young lad on Springwatch talking about ants this year who was very talented and knowledgeable. A million times better than Gillian bless 'er.

PeriComoToes · 01/07/2019 15:37

NOT Brian Cox

SleepingStandingUp · 01/07/2019 15:43

Gordon Buchanan. He's got the right vibe altho of COURSE NO ONE CAN REPLACE DAVID ATTENBOROUGH

I have new respect for Steve Backshall, but he has no gravitas

ColdAsIceCubes · 01/07/2019 15:46

Liz Bonnin for me.

timeforawine · 01/07/2019 15:48

Hmmm i would say Levison Woods or Simon Reeve.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/07/2019 15:48

@StumpyinSomerset
can't stand David Attenborough, he irritates me

😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

You might need a GP appt

timeforawine · 01/07/2019 15:55

Oooo yes to Gordon Buchanan, would put him ahead of Levison

timeforawine · 01/07/2019 15:57

Why Brian Cox when he's a physicist?

SlenderMansKnickers · 01/07/2019 15:58

David Bellamy...

Or Jess French, she's awesome, my kid liked mini beast adventures for a while and she made it entertaining, interesting and watchable.

StumpyinSomerset · 01/07/2019 18:21

You might need a GP appt

@SleepingStandingUp
I have one tomorrow actually. For something totally unrelated though.

I know he's a ''national treasure'' to many people and I admit he does a good job,but he just makes my skin crawl. Irrational? Yes. But we don't all like the same things or people. The world would be a pretty boring place if we did.

A previous poster said something about anyone but Chris Packham - I feel about him the way all of you feel about David Attenborough.
Each to their own.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/07/2019 18:23

I'll have a Google of Chris and sending you good vibes for tomorrow

SleepingStandingUp · 01/07/2019 18:29

Oh no @StumpyinSomerset you can keep Chris and ill have Gordon on the future aplocalpyse when there is no more DA
